A REWARDING JOURNEY

Houston Methodist observes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, , , Independence Day, , Day, Day after Thanksgiving and Day. If any of these holidays falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on Monday.

Extra holidays are given when Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Tuesday or Thursday. If the holidays fall on a Tuesday, the Mondays before these holidays are awarded as additional holidays. If the holidays fall on a Thursday, the Fridays after these holidays are awarded as additional holidays.

What is holiday premium pay (also known as holiday pay)? If required to work on Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, or New Year’s Day, non-exempt, regular or PRN employees will be paid an additional rate of one-half times their regular base pay including shift differential (if applicable), excluding travel time for on call pay. Holiday premium pay is paid for the actual holiday and will not always be the day observed by Houston Methodist. The holiday premium pay starts with the 11 p.m. shift immediately preceding the actual holiday and ends at 11 p.m. on the actual holiday. No holiday premium will be paid for the extra holidays provided when Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Tuesday or Thursday.
