A set of 59 old trees sampled from different locations across the country (between 0 and 554 m a.s.l.) were subject to morphological character- ization by using 33 traits related to the tree, the leaf, the pod and the seed. Results revealed important morphologi- cal variability within the Lebanese carob germplasm. The most variable traits were the number of aborted seeds per pod, seed yield, pulp weight, pod weight and pod volume. Correlation analysis showed a negative correlation of both pod size and weight with seed yield, and a positive correlation between pod length and total seed weight. Evaluation of carob morphological characters and eco-geographic parameters revealed positive correlation of seed length, chord length and pod width with the longitude, in addition to a slight positive correlation of pod weight with latitude and longitude. Principal component analysis allowed extracting the most active and discrimi- nant morphological variables, which were mainly represented by pod weight, width, length, thickness and shape, chord length, and individual seed weight and length. Cluster analysis revealed a clear differentiation between two main morphological groups; the first cluster was characterized by long and heavy pods and seeds, while the second cluster was distinguished by medium to small pods and seeds. Two eco-geographic sub-clusters could be differentiated, Mount Lebanon and the South, while the trees of Beirut and the North were dispersed in various subgroups. According to these results, the Lebanese carob germplasm might be a reservoir of genetic diversity that should be further investigated by complementary studies including flowering characteristics, pod chemical quality attributes and genetic analysis.     Guidelines for amendments to the list of Reserved and prohibited domain names under the LBDR (Published: 15 November 2017 - Updated: 14 December 2018) This memorandum specifies the guidelines for amendments to Appendix-A. Adding new names Whether new names should be reserved, or their registration should be prohibited, is subject to ongoing assessment. These might be new generic domains, for example, if a new category of enterprise should emerge along the lines of AS (a limited-liability company); new geographical names, for example if new municipalities are created; new technical names in connection with the establishment of new services; and so on. If names which may be relevant emerge, an assessment is undertaken in consultation with the LBDR Advisory Board of whether these names fulfil the requirements for inclusion in one of the categories in Appendix A. LBDR may temporarily prohibit the names until a decision has been made. Notice of the decision that the names are to be added to Appendix A is given in the normal way, although for practical reasons the names will also be blocked during the notice period. The addition of new names to the prohibited/reserved list will not have retroactive effect. This means that names that have already been registered will not be removed even if they are added to the list. If the name is deleted later, new registration of the name will however be blocked. Such names cannot be transferred to a new domain name holder either. Abstract The distributions of heavy metals were measured in the bed sediments of the Lower Litani River Basin (LLRB). The main objectives of this study were to identify possible sources of metals (i.e. geological and/or anthropogenic) and then to investigate the effect of the seasonal variations in content of metals in the bed sediments. The heavy metal concentrations in the river sediments were remarkably high according to the permissible limits. The metal contents in bed sediment were highest during dry seasons. This was accomplished by applying the correlation coefficient analysis applied to total heavy metal contents as a tool for studying metal pollution in the LLRB and their origins.     Republic of Lebanon Ministry of Environment Beirut, 16 November 2017 Circular No. 7/1 Amending Circular No. 8/1 dated 16/11/2015 on Guidelines Concerning the Integrated Management of Domestic Solid Waste to the Attention of Municipalities, Unions of Municipalities, Caimacams and Governors Considering the importance given by the Ministry of Environment to the reduction of waste production, reuse and recovery to the greatest possible extent as per the guidelines provided in the Ministry’s Circular No. 8/1 dated 16/11/2015, Taking into consideration the developments in the recycling sector over the past two years, The three annexes to Circular No. 8/1 dated 16/11/2015 including guidelines on municipal solid waste sorting at source, a list of the centers that use recyclable materials and their addresses, and some guidelines on composting shall be replaced by Annexes 1, 2 and 3 enclosed therein. The Ministry of Environment encourages both public and private sectors to activate waste sorting at source practices, and the use of recycled products under the condition that these products meet the required technical, environmental and health conditions and standards. Accordingly, annex No. 4 enclosed therein, presents some of the positive environmental impacts related to sorting at source and use of recycled products. Concerning sorting at source, the Ministry of Environment encourages the use of either a three-bin or a four-bin system based on Annex No. 1 enclosed therein.
