Powys LHB HQ Powys (teaching) Local Health Board Headquarters Directions from Brecon Follow A470 out of Brecon towards Hay-on-Wye and Hereford (A438). Follow the road for approximately 3 miles. At the junction for the A470 to Builth Wells continue on the A438. As you approach Bronllys there is a house (caravan MANSION and camp site) on the left hand side and a signpost for Powys Local Health HOUSE Board. Take this left hand turn and follow the drive until you reach Mansion House, the LHB headquarters. Directions from Abergavenny Follow the A40 from Abergavenny to Crickhowell; continue on the A40 for about 2 miles. At the Nantyffin Pub turn right onto the A479 to Builth Wells, continue on this road to Talgarth. At Talgarth follow the road to Bronllys. At the roundabout (A438 / A479) take the A438 to Brecon. At the next roundabout (entrance to Bronllys Hospital in front of you) take the first exit for A438 to Brecon. Take the next right hand turn, signposted Powys Local Health Board and follow the drive until you reach Mansion House, the LHB headquarters. Directions from Hay-on-Wye and Hereford BRONLLYS From Hereford. Follow the A438 towards A4111 for approximately 13 miles. HOSPITAL Turn left to stay on A438, entering Wales. After approximately 12 miles SITE (Glasbury) turn right to stay on A438 towards Brecon. From Hay-on-Wye. Leave Hay-on-Wye following the B4350. At Glasbury take the A438 towards Brecon. From Glasbury, follow the A438 (A479) towards Brecon. Follow the Bronllys bypass to the roundabout. At the roundabout take the 2 nd exit onto the A438 towards Brecon. At the next roundabout (entrance to Bronllys Hospital in TY ORBIS front of you) take the first exit for A438 to Brecon. Take the next right hand SCHOOL turn, signposted Powys Local Health Board and follow the drive until you reach Mansion House, the LHB headquarters. CAMP to Bronllys SITE Directions from Builth Wells A479 to Follow the A470 from Builth Wells. At Llyswen turn right for Brecon. Follow Hay-on-Wye this road to the T-junction that joins the A438 (main road from Brecon). Turn & H ereford left onto the A438 for Hereford. Follow the road for approximately 1.5 miles. As you approach Bronllys there is a house (caravan and camp site) on the left hand side and a signpost for Powys Local Health Board. Take this left hand turn and follow the drive until you reach Mansion House, the LHB headquarters. PARKING & RECEPTION. Parking is available at the rear of Mansion House (indicated with ). For economic reasons, the 9rooms' names only are listed. Often people married many miles from their own parishes and sometimes also away from the parish of the spouse. Tracking down such a 'stray marriage' can involve fruitless and dishearteninq searches and may halt progress for many years. - Included here are 'strays', who were married in another parish within the county of Powys, or in another county. There are also a few non-Powys 'strays' from adjoining counties, particularly some which may be connected with Powys families. For those researchers puzzled and confused by the thought of dealing with patronymics, when looking for their Welsh ancestors, a few are to be found here and are ' indicated by an asterisk. A simple study of these few examples may help in a search for others, although it must be said, that this is not so easy when the father's name is not given. Introduction Section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 imposes a duty on Local Planning Authorities to determine from time to time which parts of their area are „areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance‟ and to designate these areas as conservation areas. Hay-on-Wye is one of four designated conservation areas in the National Park. Planning authorities have a duty to protect these areas from development which would harm their special historic or architectural character and this is reflected in the policies contained in the National Park’s Local Development Plan. There is also a duty to review Conservation Areas to establish whether the boundaries need amendment and to identify potential measures for enhancing and protecting the Conservation Area. The purpose of a conservation area appraisal is to define the qualities of the area that make it worthy of conservation area status. A clear, comprehensive appraisal of its character provides a sound basis for development control decisions and for developing initiatives to improve the area.

  • WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020
    WSA Water Quality Monitoring Update 10 Dec 2020 It is now nearly 6 months since we began sampling Phosphate (P) levels in the Wye in the river. To date we have taken some 259 samples at 14 locations in the river & tributaries. Our team of volunteers has grown to 11 with the addition of monitoring the main river at Fawley. When lockdown and river levels permit we will install a water temperature monitor as part of our ongoing Temperature Monitoring programme at the same location. Whilst we are observing some interesting data on P levels it remains inappropriate to draw firm conclusions until we gather a more substantive volume of data from a range of conditions throughout the year. However, there are some initial interesting results that encourage more detailed investigations. I have attached our spreadsheet for information. If you wish a full ‘excel’ file for your personal study and analysis please email me at [email protected] Some of our data is being analysed by an undergraduate at Cardiff University, himself an angler. Beginning with basic mapping of the sites he will follow on to study temporal trends in phosphate and river levels. At first look he is beginning to observe trends between water colour and phosphate level which seems likely rainfall linked. He will use various techniques to produce visual representations of the spatial and temporal variations in water chemistry. More at our next update. In tandem with the usual phosphate checks for WSA, and in the aftermath of the most recent fish kill on the Llynfi, Gwent AS has invested in an ammonia checker which records NH3-N.
