Feb 20, 2012 20:00 GMT HTC One V confirms shift in branding for manufacturer

After rumours about a new HTC handset called the One X emerged last week it now seems certain that the Taiwanese firm is taking a different direction with its product naming policy. This is because the HTC One V has also been touted ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event later this month.

Those who have been following HTC's movements leading up to MWC will remember the speculation surrounding a new model known as the Primo. Now reports from Pocket-Lint suggest that the HTC One V will be the rebranded interpretation of this prototype.

The HTC One X and One S, formerly known as the Endeavour and Ville respectively, will be joined by the One V at the show, making up the triumvirate of flagship handsets which will drive the company forward in 2012.

The One V is going to be a midrange affair, sporting a dual core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and a 3.7 inch display. It will come with Android 4.0 preinstalled alongside the Sense 4.0 interface, so it should be able to rub elbows with its more capable siblings.

A five megapixel camera with HD video capture and the potential for Beats Audio components should help to make the One V a capable multimedia handset.

It may seem strange to refer to such a powerful phone as midrange but, given the advancements which are expected to come to light at MWC, the whole dual core thing will seem quite old hat by comparison. At the end of last week there were some further details about the HTC One X doing the rounds and this quad core superphone is definitely going to get some serious attention when it makes its official debut.

Firstly, the One X will apparently follow in the footsteps of the by removing all of the physical buttons which you would usually find below the display of any Android .

This is in keeping with 's design for Android 4.0, which relies on softbuttons built into applications and menus, rather than hardware keys.

A slightly odd exclusion which is being stated for the One X is the lack of a microSD memory card slot. Instead of having expandable storage the phone will apparently echo the iPhone 4S and simply have a fixed allocation of 32GB of space onboard as standard.
