Issues Objective Recommendation

Hertfordshire County Council would like to see Align with Hertfordshire County Council LTP4. 1. Replace Objective 5 with the Objective of improving improving connectivity for sustainable modes and connectivity for sustainable modes and improving improving permeability and links to surrounding permeability and links to surrounding neighbourhoods. neighbourhoods as a core objective for the redevelopment, in terms of seeking development that looks outwards as well as inwards.

Objectives 1 & 3, and by extension Phase 1, are generally well supported, and this phase is also the most detailed which enables more people to better visualise the benefits of the proposals.

Objectives 2 & 4, and by extension Phase 2, are also supported as people recognise current failings in this area in comparison to the southern end of the town centre. DRAFT In contrast, Objective 5, reducing the impact of cars and making a more pedestrian friendly environment is least supported. Our view is that respondents have interpreted this objective as principally referring to the removal of the Rickmansworth Road underpass.

Currently traffic is already bad in this area.” “Would lead to even more traffic issues on Rickmansworth Road” “Seems very likely that this would createDRAFT horrendous traffic jams and not actually be more pleasant for pedestrians. I hate waiting to cross the road!” “I have no issues walking through the current underpass.” “As stated previously, I think it is a recipe for traffic chaos and increased pollution.” “Absolute madness. When there is a problem on the M25 or M1 traffic inevitably comes through Watford.
