* All four teams involved were among the top four in their conference in 2019-20: (No. 2) and Vegas (No. 3) in the Western Conference, and (No. 1) and (No. 4) in the Eastern Conference. They all advanced to at least the Second Round of the 2020 .

* The Flyers and Bruins will become the third set of teams to have an outdoor rematch (also PHI vs. PIT and DET vs. TOR), following the 2010 Winter Classic – a 2-1 comeback win by Boston at . David Krejci set up the tying , while Patrice Bergeron had the primary assist in .

* Nine players who dressed in the 2010 Winter Classic remain in the NHL, with five still with the Bruins (Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, ) or Flyers (Claude Giroux, ). The others: (LAK), Zdeno Chara (WSH), (OTT) and (WPG).

* The backup from the 2010 Winter Classic were current NBC analyst for the Flyers and Tuukka Rask for the Bruins.

The Vegas tandem is a combined 0-2-1 outdoors (Fleury: 0-2-0 in 2 GP w/ PIT; Lehner: 0-0-1 in 1 GP w/ BUF), while the Avalanche duo is 0-1-0 after Francouz recorded a loss in relief of Grubauer in the 2020 Stadium Series.

* Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday is to be the third of four straight games between Vegas and Colorado. NHL teams had never faced the same opponent more than three straight times in a regular season before 2020-21.

* A team participating in an NHL regular-season outdoor game has advanced to the Stanley Cup Final later that season in each of the past four years. The Penguins defeated the Flyers 4-2 in the 2017 Stadium Series at in and less than four months later captured their second consecutive Stanley Cup. The Capitals defeated the Maple Leafs 5-2 in the 2018 Stadium Series at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md., and went on to win the first title in franchise history. The Bruins skated past the Blackhawks 4-2 in the 2019 Winter Classic at before falling to the Blues in Game 7 of the Final. The Stars staged a 4-2 comeback win against the Predators in the 2020 Winter Classic at Stadium before navigating through a pause in the season to reach Game 6 of the Final nearly nine months later.

* In addition to the above, the Flyers reached the 2010 Stanley Cup Final after facing the Bruins in the Winter Classic earlier that season.

* Eighteen players on the Avalanche roster have played in an NHL outdoor regular-season game, plus . Sixteen of those players were with the team in the 2020 Stadium Series against the Kings, including goaltenders Philipp Grubauer and Pavel Francouz who split duties after the former left due to injury. Forwards Gabriel Landeskog (0-2—2) and Nathan MacKinnon (1-1—2) and defenseman have played in each of Colorado’s two prior outdoor games (also 2016 Stadium Series).

* and are the only Avalanche players with outdoor experience that does not include a contest in an Avalanche uniform. Saad has 1-1—2 in three outdoor games with the Blackhawks, while Kadri has one goal in three appearances with the Maple Leafs.

* Brandon Saad has a career +5 rating in outdoor games, the highest plus-minus rating for a forward in outdoor game history and tied with Anton Stralman for second among all skaters behind (+6).

* Nazem Kadri scored his only outdoor goal in the 2018 Stadium Series, for the Maple Leafs in a game in which current teammates Andre Burakovsky and Philipp Grubauer were members of the opposing Capitals (Grubauer dressed but did not play). Vegas’ also played for Washington in that game.

* Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, one of three players born in France to play an NHL outdoor game (also and ), made his outdoor debut with the Flyers in the 2017 Stadium Series – a game in which Marc-Andre Fleury served as backup for the Penguins.

* The Avalanche will become the fifth team to play in an outdoor game in consecutive seasons, following a 3- 1 loss to the Kings in the 2020 Stadium Series at Falcon Stadium. The Blackhawks (4; 2013-14 – 2016-17), Kings (2; 2013-14 – 2014-15), Red Wings (2; 2015-16 – 2016-17) and Maple Leafs (2; 2016-17 – 2017-18) also did so.

* Colorado owns a perfect 3-0-0 home record against Vegas (VGK: 0-2-1).

* The Avalanche were hosts for the warmest regular-season outdoor game on record, with a puck-drop temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18ºC) in the 2016 Stadium Series game at Coors Field in .

* Cale Makar (13-49—62 in 68 GP) is on track to have the sixth-most points by a defenseman through 70 career regular-season games, behind (24-54—78), (50-25—75), (20-51— 71), Larry Murphy (13-54—67) and (37-28—65).

* Cale Makar is within one of 50 career assists during the regular season (68 GP). The 22-year-old is set to shatter the Avalanche/Nordiques benchmark for fewest games by a defenseman to accumulate 50 NHL assists; Jeff Brown currently holds the distinction at 108 games played.

* Cale Makar can tie Brian Leetch (69 GP; 1988-89 w/ NYR) for the fourth-fewest games to reach 50 career assists among defensemen should he hit the milestone in his next game. Makar would trail only Larry Murphy (62 GP; 1980-81 w/ LAK), Mark Howe (65 GP; 1979-80 w/ HFD) and Stefan Persson (66 GP; 1977-78 w/ NYI).

* Colorado has surrendered the game-winning goal in the final minute of regulation in both of their outdoor games (2020 Stadium Series vs. LAK, at 19:05; 2016 Stadium Series vs. DET, at 19:00). Only one other NHL outdoor game has seen a game-winning goal scored in the final minute of regulation: 2015 Winter Classic (Washington’s at 19:47 vs. CHI).

* Eleven players on the Golden Knights’ roster, plus head coach Peter DeBoer, have NHL outdoor regular- season experience. Leading goal-scorer has played in three prior games, all with the Canadiens, including the 2017 NHL100 Classic in which he faced current teammate Mark Stone.

* and Ryan Reaves each have played in one prior NHL outdoor game, as teammates with the Blues in the 2017 Winter Classic.

* Marc-Andre Fleury (0-2-0 in 2 GP) is one of 13 goaltenders with multiple NHL outdoor games to his credit, but one of two from that group who has yet to earn an outdoor win (also : 0-2-0 in 2 GP). Each of Fleury’s outdoor appearances came with the Penguins, the first more than a decade ago (2011 Winter Classic) and the last nearly seven years ago (2014 Stadium Series). He also dressed but did not play in the 2017 Stadium Series.

* Nick Holden has two prior NHL outdoor appearances, facing a current teammate in each. Holden skated with the Avalanche in the 2016 Stadium Series – a loss to Tomas Jurco and the Red Wings – and with the Rangers in the 2018 Winter Classic – an overtime win against Robin Lehner and the Sabres. Lehner also dressed for the Senators at the 2014 Heritage Classic, as backup to former Avalanche goaltender Craig Anderson.

* will face the Avalanche outdoors for a second straight year after helping the Kings win the 2020 Stadium Series, his last game with Los Angeles before being traded to Vegas. Martinez, who also played in the 2014 Stadium Series with the Kings, isn’t the only current Vegas player with outdoor experience with Los Angeles – Brayden McNabb played in the 2015 Stadium Series, which Martinez missed because of injury.

* Chandler Stephenson was teammates with current Colorado forward Andre Burakovsky and goaltender Philipp Grubauer in his only outdoor game, the 2018 Stadium Series with Washington. The Capitals defeated Nazem Kadri – now with the Avalanche – and the Maple Leafs (Grubauer dressed but did not play).

* Vegas will become the 26th different franchise to play in an NHL regular-season outdoor game.

* The Golden Knights started 2020-21 with an 8-1-1 record (17 points), the best 10-game start to a season in their short history – improving upon the 16 points through 10 games of their inaugural campaign (2017-18: 8-2-0).

* Mark Stone, the first captain in franchise history, leads Vegas in assists and points since making his team debut Feb. 26, 2019. A sixth-round selection by in the 2010 NHL Draft, Stone recently became the sixth player from his draft class to accumulate 400 career points – and the first picked outside of the first round to do so.

* Max Pacioretty has played in three NHL outdoor games (1-1—2, all w/ MTL), the most among Vegas players. Since joining the Golden Knights ahead of the 2018-19 season, Pacioretty leads the club in goals and points.

* As of Feb. 17, the Golden Knights sit in first place in the Honda West Division. Vegas finished atop its division in two of the franchise’s first three seasons entering 2020-21 (2017-18 and 2019-20).

* Eighteen players on the Flyers’ roster, plus head coach , have NHL outdoor regular-season experience. Fifteen of those players have played in a prior outdoor game with Philadelphia, including seven who have suited up in multiple outdoor games with the club: Claude Giroux (4), (3), James van Riemsdyk (3), Jakub Voracek (3), (2), (2) and (2).

* , who hails from Dorchester, Mass., notched an assist in his one prior NHL outdoor game, with the Rangers in the 2018 Winter Classic. His brother, , also recorded an assist in his first outdoor appearance, with the Bruins in the 2016 Winter Classic.

* Erik Gustafsson recorded an assist in his one prior NHL outdoor game, with the Blackhawks in the 2019 Winter Classic against the Bruins.

* James van Riemsdyk is expected to skate in his seventh career outdoor game and fourth with the Flyers. He is currently tied with the Blackhawks quartet of , , Jonathan Toews and for the most career outdoor games played (6).

* Alain Vigneault (3-0-0) is the only head coach to win three NHL outdoor games. He is set to join (5 GC; 1-4-0), (4 GC; 2-1-1), Claude Julien (4 GC; 2-2-0) as the fourth head coach to serve in at least four outdoor games.

* Jakub Voracek (2-2—4 in 3 GP) and Claude Giroux (2-2—4 in 4 GP) trail only (0-7—7 in 4 GP) and Jonathan Toews (2-5—7 in 6 GP) for the most career points outdoors. Only Tyler Toffoli (3 G in 2 GP) and (3 G in 3 GP) have more career goals in such games than Voracek and Giroux.

* In the 11+ years since making his first NHL outdoor appearance, Claude Giroux has climbed into the top 10 in Flyers history for games played (3rd; 902), assists (2nd; 568), points (4th; 826) and goals (10th; 258) as of Feb. 17, 2021. He was tied for 122nd place in franchise history for points entering the 2010 Winter Classic.

* James van Riemsdyk recently scored his 100th goal in a Flyers uniform (100-105—205 in 341 GP as of Feb. 17, 2021). van Riemsdyk entered the 2010 Winter Classic as a rookie with 7-13—20 in 36 career games.

* Brian Elliott led Philadelphia to its only outdoor win, making 40 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Penguins in the 2019 Stadium Series. He is one of three goaltenders to make 40+ saves in an outdoor game (also : 43 SV in 2019 Heritage Classic, : 41 SV in 2014 Winter Classic).

* Claude Giroux is the franchise leader with 11 career overtime goals, including one outdoors in the 2019 Stadium Series when he gave Philadelphia a 4-3 victory in front of the sixth-largest crowd in NHL history (69,620).

* (22 years, 192 days on Feb. 21) can become the youngest goaltender to play an NHL regular- season outdoor game.

* As of Feb. 17, 2021, James van Riemsdyk owns an active seven-game streak (4-9—13 in 7 GP), his longest in a Flyers uniform and tied for the second-longest of his NHL career (7 GP in 2015-16 and 10 GP in 2016-17, both w/ TOR). He has 17 goals in 40 career regular-season games (for any team) against the Bruins, tied for his highest total against one opponent and the most by any current Philadelphia player against Boston.

* Fourteen players on the Bruins’ roster, plus head coach , have NHL outdoor regular-season experience. Twelve of those players were part of Boston’s last such game, a 4-2 win in the 2019 Winter Classic that saw current Bruins Sean Kuraly, Chris Wagner and combine for the winning goal.

* Patrice Bergeron (3), David Krejci (2), (2) and Tuukka Rask (2) all have played multiple outdoor games for Boston. Rask also dressed but did not play in one other outdoor game, the 2010 Winter Classic.

* , who made his NHL debut two weeks after the 2010 Winter Classic, scored a goal in his only NHL outdoor game – into an empty net in the 2019 Winter Classic. As of Feb. 17, 2021, he sits one goal shy of 300 in his career and with Boston, a marked reached by only six Bruins.

* David Pastrnak tallied 1-1—2 in his outdoor debut in the 2019 Winter Classic, one of two multi-point performances outdoors for Boston (Patrice Bergeron also had 1-1—2 in that game).

* John Moore has played in three career outdoor games, the 2019 Winter Classic with the Bruins and two Stadium Series games with the Rangers in 2014.

* Craig Smith has played in one prior outdoor game, with the Predators in the 2020 Winter Classic.

* This is the farthest distance the Bruins have travelled for a “home game” in North America (2,537 miles; 4,083 km), but it’s closer than the 3,895 miles (6,268 km) covered for their regular-season home game against the Coyotes in 2010 at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. Of note: Boston has played preseason games in China.

* Boston also has covered large distances for preseason games in Belfast, U.K., and Liberec, Czech Republic in 2010, along with a trip to China in 2018 for contests in Shenzhen and Beijing. The game in Beijing is the only time they have been the home team in a preseason game overseas (Sept. 19, 2018 vs. CGY).

* As of Feb. 17, 2021, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron are the second-highest scoring trio in the NHL since the start of the 2016-17 regular season with 980 total points. The only trio of teammates with more points in that span are Oilers Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1,073 points).

* David Pastrnak scored a hat trick in the first head-to-head matchup between the Bruins and Flyers this season (Feb. 3: 3-1—4). It was his ninth career hat trick and first against the Flyers – against whom he has 12 career regular-season goals (18 GP), trailing only (14 G in 19 GP), Tampa Bay (14 G in 24 GP) and (13 G in 18 GP) for his highest total against one club. Before Pastrnak, the last Bruins player to score a hat trick against the Flyers was on Jan. 22, 1995 and the last to do so in Philadelphia was on Feb. 17, 1972. A Boston player has never scored a playoff hat trick against Philadelphia.

* David Pastrnak has scored at least 30 goals in each of the past four seasons (since 2016-17) and ranks third in the NHL for regular-season goals in that span (as of Feb. 17, 2021).

* Charlie McAvoy had a career-high eight-game point streak from Jan 23 – Feb. 10, 2021 (1-10—11) to join (7x) as the only Bruins defensemen to achieve the feat since 1984-85. McAvoy also became the fourth defenseman in franchise history – and first in his lifetime – to record an assist streak of eight or more games, joining (6x; last: 1972-73), Bourque (5x; last: 1992-93) and (1973-74).
