Descriptive survey research was adopted for the study. Two research questions were drawn from the two purposes that guided the study. The population consists of 5855 undergraduate students of NOUN Enugu Study Centre. A sample size of 293 students was used as 5% of the entire population. -

Gender and Information Literacy: Evaluation of Gender Differences in a Student Survey of Information Sources Arthur Taylor and Heather A. Dalal Information literacy studies have shown that college students use a va- riety of information sources to perform research and commonly choose Internet sources over traditional library sources. Studies have also shown that students do not appear to understand the information quality issues concerning Internet information sources and may lack the information literacy skills to make good choices concerning the use of these sources. No studies currently provide clear guidance on how gender might influ- ence the information literacy skills of students. Such guidance could help improve information literacy instruction. This study used a survey of college-aged students to evaluate a subset of student information literacy skills in relation to Internet information sources. Analysis of the data collected provided strong indications of gender differences in information literacy skills. Female respondents ap- peared to be more discerning than males in evaluating Internet sources. Males appeared to be more confident in the credibility and accuracy of the results returned by search engines. Evaluation of other survey responses strengthened our finding of gender differentiation in informa- tion literacy skills. ollege students today have come of age surrounded by a sea of information delivered from an array of sources available at their fingertips at any time of the day or night. Studies have shown that the most common source of information for college-aged students is the Internet. Information gathered in this environment is most likely found using a commercial search engine that returns sources of dubious quality using an unknown algorithm. -

Personalized Search Fredrik Nygård Carlsen arXiv:1509.02207v1 [cs.IR] 7 Sep 2015 Submission date: September 2015 Supervisor: Trond Aalberg, IDI Norwegian University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Science Abstract As the volume of electronically available information grows, relevant items become harder to find. This work presents an approach to personalizing search results in scientific publication databases. This work focuses on re-ranking search results from existing search engines like Solr or ElasticSearch. This work also includes the development of Obelix, a new recommendation sys- tem used to re-rank search results. The project was proposed and performed at CERN, using the scientific publications available on the CERN Document Server (CDS). This work experiments with re-ranking using offline and online evaluation of users and documents in CDS. The experiments conclude that the personal- ized search result outperform both latest first and word similarity in terms of click position in the search result for global search in CDS. iii Acknowledgments I would first of all like to thank my supervisor, Trond Aalberg, for valuable guidance and support. 3 Issues and Trends in Learning Technologies Volume 8, Number 1, May 2020 Google Dictionary: A Critical Review Musa Nushi Afshin Moradi Shahid Beheshti University Shahid Beheshti University Abstract In an increasingly digital world, online educational resources, apps, and other technologies can serve as incredibly effective tools to facilitate both teaching and learning. One such online tool is the Google Dictionary. This dictionary, an online service of Google, is probably one of the simplest dictionaries for English learners. The definitions usually use simple words and therefore are easy to understand. In addition to the definitions, examples, pictures, and usage notes, there is a separate pronunciation entry with interesting characteristics. This newly added entry provides users with the pronunciation of a word in two different accents, visemes, slow playback, and an option that lets Google collect feedback about the accuracy and helpfulness of the pronunciation recordings from users. This review paper offers a descriptive account of the entry, along with critical evaluation including its strong points and limitations. The review concludes with some suggestions to improve the educational quality of the pronunciation entry..
