Have an Enjoyable Summer Holiday School Sports Newsletter Summer 2015 Have an enjoyable Summer Holiday WOW! What a fantastic year we have had in CRGS Sport. Our students have outclassed, outshone and outplayed many opponents locally, regionally and nationally. We have excelled in many sports and have won more silverware in a wider range of activities than ever before. The trophy cabinet is bursting at the seams. Not only have we been successful with winning, we have also had our highest number of extra-curricular participants to date. Our Sports Leaders have been exceptional and to top it all off, two of our students have gone on to represent the Ribble Valley for writing a CRGS ‘Pledge for Sports’. The commitment of the students has been second to none; they have shown real effort and motivation to achieve and should be congratulated for this. CRGS Sport has never been better! The summer season has not failed to follow the successes of the winter season with Girls and Boys Cricket reaching new heights with regional representation. Athletics, Rounders and Tennis have all been amazing to watch as the students have surpassed all expectations. Rising Stars Name: Joshua Bailey Sport: Football, Basketball, Rugby, Cricket, Badminton, Athletics and Cricket. Greatest Achievement so far: Playing for Preston North End Football Academy About Josh: Josh started paying football when he was 4 years old for Chipping and since then he has played for Burnley and trained at Manchester United’s Academy. Josh then moved on to his current club PNE where he has played in defence. Since joining CRGS he has tried many new sports and has managed to work his way up into the Year 8 Rugby team and the Year 9 Basketball team. Josh absolutely loves any kind of sport and will continue to try new ones. Future Aspirations: In the future, Josh aims to work towards becoming a professional footballer through a scholarship. If this doesn't happen, Josh knows he would still like to work in sports either as a coach or player in another sport. Name: Ben Turland Sport: Swimming and Biathlon Greatest Achievement so far: Ben qualified in 10th position for the Under 14s 100m freestyle in the English Home Nation Championships. In the British National Swimming Championships, in the 12-year-olds 100m and 200m freestyle events, he finished 24th and 21st respectively. In the National Schools’ Biathlon Championships he finished in 5th position individually and formed part of the CRGS team which won first place overall in the Under 14 boys age group. About Ben: When he was around 8 years old, Ben played for his local football team and won an award for “Player’s Player of the Year” However, Ben decided that he preferred swimming. He was already a decent swimmer by then, so he decided he’d like to try competitive swimming and joined Great Harwood Otters. Three years ago he moved on to his current club, Pioneer 79 in Accrington, where he has gone from strength to strength. Future Aspirations: Ben holds a US passport and would love to attend a US university in the future. He sees swimming, and sports in general, as a way of helping him reach that goal. Name: Tom Doherty Sport: Rugby Greatest Achievement so far: Being selected for the Lancashire U14 squad. Being in the squad for Blackburn and winning the Manchester Tournament. Captaining CRGS to winning the Lancashire Plate competition. About Tom: Tom has been playing rugby for about 8 years now. He plays for his local club Blackburn and for Irish Exiles as well as for Lancashire. He is also Lancashire Triple Jump Champion. Future Aspirations: Tom will be going on a tour of Ireland with the Irish Exiles and he is hopeful that he will continue to play Rugby for his County. He also hopes to eventually make it into the England U21s squad and hopefully further. Boot Camp ‘The P.E Department has also been making sure that the teaching staff are keeping fit for class! Each week they lend their expertise at Boot Camp to put staff through their paces, providing fitness exercises and interval training to get the heart racing. Whether fast, slow or a chocolate biscuit eater they will make sure that Boot Camp provides just the right amount of stretch and challenge to get everyone on the road to fitness’. Mrs Pratt– Boot Camp regular! Sports Personality Awards 2015 The annual Sports Personality Awards evening was held for the first time in its rightful place, our new Sports hall. The evening was another fantastic success, celebrating how fantastic our students are. Our ‘Most Improved’ awards show how dedicated students are and how they are always striving to be the best they can be. The Physical Education Department could not be more proud of the dedication, commitment and energy that all CRGS students put into their school sporting careers. The evening also showed how supportive our students’ parents were with their generosity in buying raffle tickets and participating in the auction. We would like to thank all those who kindly donated the prizes. Over 300 students and parents attended the awards evening and joined us in the celebrations. A massive well done to those who were nominated, those who received their colours and congratulations to the eventual winners. The rundown of winners can be found below: BOYS GIRLS BOYS GIRLS MOST IMPROVED MOST IMPROVED SPORTS PERSONALITY SPORTS PERSONALITY TEAM OF THE YEAR YEAR 7 JAMIE TEARE CHARLIE ASHWORTH JOSH BAILEY MAYA NELSON SUPER 8’s YEAR 8 JAMES FORREST MOLLY DUCKWORTH HARVEY GRIFFIN ANJALIE SINGH GIRLS CRICKET YEAR 9 MURRAY DAVIES JESS KELLY TOM DOHERTY ROXY FOLEY-JENNISON HANDBALL YEAR 10 TOM ENTWISTLE BETH GRAY JOE KENNY EMILY TRAVERS BOYS CRICKET The overall Sports Personality of the Year award went to Emily Travers, a well deserved accolade. Emily has shown a wonderful level of commitment to sport at CRGS; she has been an integral part of most teams this year including Basketball, Football, Cross Country, Cricket, and Athletics to name a few. She has also refereed at Primary School Football events. Emily has worked hard on and off the pitch and is highly regarded in CRGS Sport. Sports Pledge A new competition in the Ribble Valley was held and students had to write a pledge addressing some of the key areas within sport. Three of our Year 7 classes created pledges and the best one was selected to enter the competition. This was written by Esha Adeel and Radikha Kaimal. They were successful with their entry in the regional round and have now been selected to represent the Ribble Valley in the competition. Very well done! Leadership at CRGS Our leaders have made us proud once again. They have helped out at numerous Primary School competitions and the feedback from the organisers has been marvellous. The Schools Games Organiser, Jane Johnson, stated after the Primary School Sports Hall Athletics event that ‘They really did go above and beyond all expectations. It is a long day and hard to keep high levels of motivation and energy especially throughout the second event but they remained positive until the end. They were a total credit to the school. The students really excelled in trying to draw the best performances out of the athletes, giving them tips to improve and get the best scores possible. I received many comments from other school staff and other School Games Organisers about where the leaders were from and how good they were’. Well done to everyone involved! Boys’ Football It has been a mixed season with all teams being promoted to the Premier Leagues where they played some tough matches against local rivals. The Year 7s and 8s can be very proud of themselves as they finished 2nd in the league. The Year 10 boys’ team reached the Semi- Finals of the English Small Schools Cup. The Year 7 team again set the standard by reaching the last 16 of the whole of England! The U18s teams both had remarkable seasons. The Second XI were unbeaten in the league and the First XI won the league and Lancashire Cup. These were the most talented teams we have had for a while (and that is saying something!). With many currently in Year 12 we look forward to another exciting season in the next academic year. Girls’ Football What a fantastic debut season our Year 7 girls have had. They have introduced themselves with a bang. They have remained unbeaten in the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Leagues and Tournaments and have also produced some fine victories in the Lancashire schools competition. They were victorious over teams like Montgomery, Haslingden and Ripley St Thomas and on the finals day played some awesome football to bring home the trophy and be crowned Lancashire champions. The U13 Girls team have been crowned HRVS Champions having only lost one league game throughout the season. The U15 girls have had a good season and were placed 2nd in the final standings of the HRVS league, winning 5 Y7&8 Y9&10 out of 8 of the matches, the most notable against St Ribblesdale Won 8-1 Lost 2-3 Christopher’s. A number of our girls have been put Bowland Won 1-0 Won 3-1 forward for trials for the Lancashire squad. The girls St Augustine’s Draw 2-2 Lost 2-3 attended their first trials and said they really enjoyed it and Norden Won 11-0 Won 1-0 felt positive leading into the second trial in September. We Mt Carmel Won 4-0 Lost 6-1 will report in the Christmas edition whether they have Accrington Ac.

CRICKET MEMORABILIA SOCIETY POSTAL AUCTION CLOSING AT NOON 10th JULY 2020 Conditions of Postal Sale The CMS reserves the right to refuse items which are damaged or unsuitable, or we have doubts about authenticity. Reserves can be placed on lots but must be agreed with the CMS. They should reflect realistic values/expectations and not be the “highest price” expected. The CMS will take 7% of the price realised, the vendor 93% which will normally be paid no later than 6 weeks after the auction. The CMS will undertake to advertise the memorabilia for auction on its website no later than 3 weeks prior to the closing date of the auction. Bids will only be accepted from CMS members. Postal bids must be in writing or e-mail by the closing date and time shown above. Generally, no item will be sold below 10% of the lower estimate without reference to the vendor.. Thus, an item with a £10-15 estimate can be sold for £9, but not £8, without approval. The incremental scale for the acceptance of bids is as follows: £2 increments up to £20, then £20/22/25/28/30 up to £50, then £5 increments to £100 and £10 increments above that. So, if there are two postal bids at £25 and £30, the item will go to the higher bidder at £28. Should there be two identical bids, the first received will win. Bids submitted between increments will be accepted, thus a £52 bid will not be rounded either up or down. Items will be sent to successful postal bidders the week after the auction and will be sent by the cheapest rate commensurate with the value and size of the item.

Following the Rishton CBM being given a community base inside Norden High School the Headteacher and myself met to discuss how it could be used to improve relationships between the police, the school and it’s pupils. Eastern communications received a high number of calls from the school and reducing this would be one obvious benefit. Area 7 has three towns, Great Harwood, Rishton and Clayton le Moors. The areas secondary education is served through a number of schools but one of these, Norden County High, is situated within Rishton and the majority of its pupils are from Great Harwood and Rishton. Pupils are from a varied social background but mainly from a lower social background. The main victim is the community. Others are the Police, School, young people and local businesses. The current system fails to bring together two organisations involved in a child’s upbringing. This creates barriers between the police, schools and the community whereby all pull in generally the same direction but without cohesion. Organisations and parents have a view that each should be in control of its own remit and use it’s own punishment/reward system. The reality is that problems are generally caused by the same people and to target these, as one, would have more effect.

  • Annual Report 2018 - 2019
ANNUAL REPORT 2018 - 2019 CHAIRMAN’S INTRODUCTION Once again our annual report sets out the work of the Foundation over the past year. The charity is now into its twenty-first year and this year we will be celebrating what has been achieved over the last two decades and we will also be doing all we can to enliven the spirit of community action for the environment into the future. The charity and its staff and trustees are vital for local people and groups to maintain the momentum, but those who were involved with PROSPECTS at the start will know that there is much more to our movement than what the Foundation does. The challenge is of course greater than ever if we are to believe that action at the local level is going to make a difference. I do believe that - but the levels of external support are lower than they used to be and we are more and more reliant on our own energy and resources. PROSPECTS has always put great store by local knowledge and people’s natural aspirations to do their best for the community where they live. We continue to need new community participants and fresh ideas about what is needed around the borough. So the Foundation has embarked on an effort to re-energise the PROSPECTS Panels and generate new ideas and to attract more people to get involved. We know that it is project work that gets people interested and we will be working with the Panels, looking for fresh proposals that are meaningful to the community and which make a contribution to the environment.
