PUBLICATION OF THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF INDIA IN DUBAI VOL.3 ISSUE 4 | APRIL 2011 WORLD CHAMPS Riding a billion dreams, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Devils lift the World Cup after 28 long years C FROM THE CONSUL GENERAL’S DESK O Dear Reader, We wish very hearty congratulations to Team India and all its N fans! An unbending desire to win transformed a team that looked flawed to begin with, into worthy winners bringing home India’s second World Cup, 28 years after the glorious victory Kapil Dev’s team achieved. T For many in my generation, the World Cup victory this year will bury forever the last ball six in Sharjah in the summer of 1986. This victory will also erase the 1996 defeat in the Cricket World E Cup semifinals and for many more this victory will blank out the ignominious exit from the 2007 World Cup. Our cover story is dedicated to Dhoni and his boys. N The Indian economy continues its impressive growth. The trade figures for the Financial Year 2010-2011 are out and India’s merchandise exports approached $246 billion. UAE remains our largest trading partner, also accounting for 47 percent of exports T in the gems and jewellery sector. We have never been more engaged with the international economy. The growth is likely to continue in the coming years as well. S 4 World Champs Happy Reading!
