Designs were shown using various battings and fabrics. It is not necessary to use designs labeled trapunto. Try any line quilting design. Many are quite beautiful. Don't save these designs for quilts only. They can be put on your apparel and other home dec items as well. Patches was the topic of discussion in February. Jane stitched designs on a variety of fabrics using a variety of stabilizers to create the patches. You can use stiff felt, denim, duck or canvas. If you use a different fabric be sure to stabilize it. Try wash-a-way, tear-a-way or even plastic bags to stabilize your patch. Always test first. Just about any design can be turned into a patch. North Palm Beach We had a wonderful turnout for our January meeting. Rosanne did a super job showing us her zipper techniques. Gloria showed us a new magnetic hoop. Looks like a great item if you don't like to hoop. February’s meeting was all about quilting rulers and exposed zippers. Gloria showed us how to use rulers with our sewing machines to make wonderful quilting designs on our quilts. Jane discussed installing EXPOSED zippers in a seam or without a seam. They are used as a design element as well as being utilitarian. Jane Cappo 3 Neighborhood Group News Boca Raton Daytime Our February meeting’s show-and-tell segment brought out creative and fun projects. Lani’s “dammit doll” was a big hit as well as Ruth’s tote bag. Our anuual holiday meeting was held at the Patch Reef Park Community Center on December 15. A delicious pot luck buffet was served and was followed by games. 4 Neighborhood Group News Coral Springs L. Margaret shows her beautiful star quilt at a recent meeting. R. Marietta led us in making a fold-up tote bag. Stash it in your suitcase and you have a extra bag for the return trip. 12 Hints When Sewing with Knits by Emma Seabrooke When sewing with knits, use these 12 helpful hints to make a HUGE difference. 1. Walking foot. 2. Lighten machine foot pressure. 3. 75/11 STRETCH needles. 4. 100% poly thread. 5. Bobbin containing the same 100% poly threads. 6. Stitch at a slow speed. Knits like slow. 7. Use flat hands to GUIDE fabric. Do not GRIP, TUG or PULL fabric. This is not stretch and sew any more. 8. Knits should be kept on a flat surface and not draping off the table. 9. Pin together on the table not the lap. Also put a pin at each end and the middle and then start work- ing to close the gaps. 10. Start sewing on the fabric and stitch to the end off the fabric. Turn the fabric and sew off the other end. Never sew onto a fabric, especially light weight fabric as it usually goes down into the bobbin area. 11. Always best to sew to the waist. Sew up the leg and down the tee side seam. 12. Last but definitely not the least, USE SEWKEYSE STAY TAPES. They help control the knits so they don’t have ski moguls throughout your seams and hems. 5 Come and join us for a fun filled day with Husqvarna Viking’s Elite educator, Debra North.
