Released in 2010, it is the second game in the Valkyria Chronicles series and a sequel to The Valkyria Chronicles. Set two years after the outbreak of the Second European War, the story of the game focuses on the military academy as its cadets seek to prevent the ethnic cleansing campaign of a ruthless rebel group. Since its release, Valkyria Chronicles II has received mostly high scores from several well-known video game publications. The third game in the series, Valkyria Chronicles III, which is also on PlayStation Portable, was released on January 27, 2011 in Japan. However, since the game takes place around the same time as the first game, it is a prequel to Valkyria Chronicles II. Many of the gameplay concepts in Valkyria Chronicles II are transferred from the original. The BLIT system is used in combat scenarios, dividing the action between the overhead command mode and the third-person mode of action. Selecting allied units during command mode, using command points in the process, said that units can move and perform actions until their points of action run out. When a player has exhausted their available team points, or volunteers to hand over control without using all of them, the player phase ends and the enemy phase begins. This progresses back and forth until the battle victory conditions are met or the player is defeated. Valkyria Chronicles II uses a system of several maps of areas connected by enemy camps. When the enemy camp is captured by the player's forces, subsequent areas are available, using the camp as a point to call reinforcements and continue. Also similar to the original, the characters available for use by the player, each of them occupy a certain class - the exception is the main character Avan, who can move freely between classes. Valkyria Chronicles II has new class types and the ability of units to change their class based on branching tree upgrades. All five original classes from the Valkyria Chronicles are reappearing, some with Modification. Scouts, shockers, engineers and lancers act as base units, units, to more powerful and specialized promotions. Snipers, instead of being a starting class, are part of the Scout upgrade potential. The final basic class is new to the series. The Armored Tech class can disarm mines and carry large shields that can deflect fire from a rifle and machine gun. Topics of the game include school and war as students try to juggle their duties as military academy students and soldiers. Each time a student's story is fully revealed, an additional mission involving this character is unlocked, and cleaning up the mission usually replaces negative traits that can hinder their progress in combat with the positive, making them more reliable. Plot See also: List of characters Valkyria Chronicles - Valkyria Chronicles II The story of the game takes place in 1937 AD, two years after the completion of the Valkyria Chronicles, in which Squad 7 defeats Maximilian in Gaul and destroys Marmota, ending the war between Gaul and the Imperial Alliance. An insurgent group of disgruntled aristocrats and like-minded soldiers and citizens calling themselves the Gallian Revolutionary Army is launching a Gallic civil war to wage an ethnic cleansing campaign against the Gallic Darzen origin. However, with the intense struggle against the Empire, having left the regular army of Gaul in an exhausted state, initially little can stop the rebellion from gaining momentum. Laws preventing the formation of a national militia to fight other Gaul people are forcing the government to deploy military academy cadets on the front line to fight the GRA and defeat forces. Among the students sent to the field is 17-year-old Awan Hardins, a young man who enrolled at Lancel Military Academy after the death of his older brother Leon. Awan meets two notable people, in particular, during his entrance exams: zeri (Darsen) and Cosette. Awan is elected chairman of the class. Three of them are placed in Class G and start an academy of life. At the end of the first month, the rebels attack the village of Harlem and Class G destroy their tank to stop them (thanks to the observation of zeri). The class is included in the Levatain Cup, a tournament held at the school, but most of Awan's classmates are and don't believe they can win. However, they win the quarter-finals, which raises their morale, but Julian, Julian, The chairman of Class A, says they can't win the final and they're the worst class in the school. In March, it was reported that the rebels were led by four men: Gilbert Gassenarl, his son Boldren, his daughter Audrey and a mysterious man known as Dirk, who does not seem to be human. Class G is ordered to accompany the VIP, but they are attacked by rebels and battle Dirk. The mysterious girl appears with a woman in a cloak and destroys rebel forces, helping Class G win the battle. It turned out that VIP is Archduke Cordelia, who visits the village to see the extent of the damage and help the villagers. Class G liberates the village of Darsen, which is under attack by rebel forces led by Baldrin Gassenarle. His father ordered him to retreat. However, he is suspicious of the mysterious girl and thinks that she is a new model of artificial Valkirur (for example, Dirk). He orders Dirk to see him. Back in the village of Darksen, he suffers from the murders of Darksen and says that he will become a hero to force the Gallicians to accept The Darxens. Avan and Cosette meet Aliasse, who says she is the real Valkyrie, and Cosette helps her plant a flower called Lion Paw. Yuell is attacked by the rebels and Cosette seems to have been affected by this: Yuell is her hometown and where her parents were killed. Awan says they can help the army, but zeri tries to stop them by saying they can't win. Avan accuses zeri of cowardice and leaves with Cosetta. They defeated Audrey Gassenarl and recaptured Yuell. Class G wins the Levatain final, but their celebrations are interrupted by a rebel attack. Rebels steal research data from the old campus and fight the forces of Lancea. Class G helps Julian, who has turned into Valkyrie. She's fighting Dirk. During the fight, Dirk's helmet is switched off and he is revealed as Leon. However, he does not seem to be himself and orders the forces to retreat. Giuliana is mortally wounded and dies, telling zeri that she hopes they were able to restore Gaul together and giving him his bracelet as a charm of luck. Professor Brixham, a G class teacher, understands that the principal experimented with students, which is why Leon and Giuliana were turned into Valkyrie. The director seems to have gone mad with grief after the research data was stolen and he committed suicide after he dumped Brixham and Awan and locked the door of the Old Campus. Avan and Cosette meet again with Aliasse and see that the flower of the Lion Paw Aliasse, planted by Alisasse, has grown. A woman comes in a cloak and crushes a flower, saying that any organism that is only for decorative purposes is useless. Her name is Clementia Forster. She orders Aliassa to leave with her, but Aliasse wants to stay with Awan and Cosetta. Forster threatens Avana, but when he doesn't come back she leaves Aliasse, saying that Aliasse will never get a normal life. Avan and Cosette will take Aliassi to Class G, and Cosette will tell Aliassa that she will be like Aliasse's older sister and will be sure that Aliassa will get a normal life. Aliasse joins the class of G. Randgriz, the capital, falls, and Gilbert Gassenarl becomes archduke, arresting and imprisoning Cordelia. However, Boldren opposes his intention to make Gaul dependent on the Federation (in cooperation with federation ambassador Jean Townshend). Boldren shoots Gilbert and claims to be the Archduke for himself. He orders Audrey to take the V2s (artificial Valkir) squad and attack Anthold Harbour. Class G, led by Awan and Zeri, make a plan and blow up the aqueduct, causing flooding and destruction of rebel forces - also killing Audrey and destroying her tank, Geriolul. Boldren is furious when he receives the news of his sister's death. He decides to run for the Federation for a while and claim the throne of the Federation Council.

However, the translation of humor in games has received little scholarly attention, despite the fact that humor is a fundamental component of games and can be a difficult area to translate. In this view, the thesis is aimed at identifying and classifying the main types of humor in games and the way in which their translation from English into Italian has been tackled, highlighting how the interactive nature of games may affect translation. As the audiovisual features of games are incredibly varied and cannot always be assimilated to the established categories of audiovisual translation, the thesis also discusses how the various audiovisual modalities of games can have an impact on localization. Then, it examines three popular games that are particularly suitable for this analysis, as they feature plenty of humorous dialogues and situations: The Secret of Monkey Island (1990), Day of the Tentacle (1993) and Discworld (1995). The thesis pays particular attention to instances of humor based on cultural elements, as they are especially likely to cause disruptions in a translated text.
