For Immediate Release – Office of State Senator Jerry Hill – June 25, 2020 Media Contact: Leslie Guevarra, 415-298-3404, [email protected] California Senate Passes SB 793, Sends Bill Creating Country’s Strongest Restrictions on Flavored Tobacco Products to State Assembly SACRAMENTO—State Senator Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, issued the following statement today on the Senate’s 33-4 vote to pass Senate Bill 793. “Using candy, fruit and other alluring flavors, the tobacco industry weaponized its tactics to beguile a new generation into nicotine addiction while keeping longtime users hooked. SB 793 breaks Big Tobacco’s death grip,” said Senator Hill. “The Senate’s vote today is a huge win for this landmark legislation. I am deeply grateful for the support from our lieutenant governor, the more than 40 state legislators and the strong coalition of health, youth and education advocates who have made it possible for SB 793 to advance. Together we can enact the strongest flavored tobacco policy in the country.” The number of lawmakers who are coauthoring SB 793 with Senator Hill continues to grow.
