NEW YORK JETS AT MIAMI DOLPHINS HARD ROCK STADIUM OCT. 18, 2020 | 4:05 PM POSTGAME NOTES DOLPHINS SHUT OUT JETS, 24- 0 • Miami’s 24-0 win is the team’s first shutout since Nov. 2, 2014 when they beat San Diego, 37-0. • This is the first time the Dolphins won back-to-back games in a season by 20 or more points since 1990 when the Dolphins posted a 27-7 win at Indianapolis followed by a 23-3 win vs. Phoenix. o However, the Dolphins have won by 20-plus points in the 2001 season finale (34-7 vs. Buffalo) followed by a 20-plus point win in 2002 season opener (49-21 vs. Detroit) in that span. • The Dolphins have now won three of their past four games and eight of their past 15 dating back to 2019. • This is Miami’s fifth consecutive victory over the Jets at Hard Rock Stadium. • Miami has now won five of its past six meetings against the Jets and seven of the past nine. • This is the Dolphins’ fourth win in their past seven home games. • Miami is now 65-40-3 all-time in home games in October. • The Dolphins have won 21 of their past 35 games at Hard Rock Stadium dating back to 2016. Miami has 30 shutouts overall (including postseason) and four against the Jets. • Miami’s last shutout of the Jets came in the AFC Championship game on Jan. 23, 1983 when the Dolphins won 14-0. • With three more sacks today, the Dolphins now have eight sacks in the past two weeks, tied for third-most in the NFL in that span. • At the conclusion of today’s 4 p.m. games, the Dolphins’ scoring defense of 18.8 points allowed per game ranks fourth in the NFL this season and Miami’s 17 sacks rank sixth. • At the conclusion of today’s 4 p.m. games, Miami has the NFL’s best third down defense, allowing opponents to convert on just 31.3 percent of opportunities. • The Dolphins limited the Jets to just 148 net passing yards. HOWARD INTERCEPTS A PASS IN HIS FOURTH STRAIGHT GAME • CB Xavien Howard intercepted his fourth pass of the season in his fourth consecutive game, after he picked off Jets QB Joe Flacco in the second quarter. • Howard’s four-game interception streak is the second-longest in team history. It was the fewest yards allowed in the first half of a game by Miami since Oct. 8, 2017 in a win vs. Tennessee. • Miami forced six punts and held the Jets to just five first downs in the first half. It’s the first time the Dolphins have forced more punts than first downs allowed in the first half of a game since Oct. 8, 2017 in a win vs. Tennessee. • The Dolphins’ pass rush was active, hitting Jets QB Joe Flacco four times and sacking him once in the first half. • Miami was also active in the secondary as they had five passes defensed in the first half, including an interception by CB Xavien Howard. GASKIN HAS CAREER DAY • RB Myles Gaskin had the most productive game of his career today, totaling 126 yards from scrimmage with 91 rushing yards and 35 receiving yards. OGBAH TAKES DOWN FLACCO TWICE • DE Emmanuel Ogbah recorded two sacks for a loss of 30 yards today. It was Miami’s first two-sack performance since DE Cameron Wake and DT Akeem Spence both had a pair of sacks in the Nov. 4, 2018 game vs. the N.Y. Jets. • Ogbah has now recorded five sacks this season and four in his past three games. He’s just one half-sack shy of his career high of 5.5 sacks set in both 2016 and 2019. • Ogbah’s four sacks in the past three weeks are tied for second-most in the NFL in that span. • Ogbah brought down QB Joe Flacco for a loss of 28 yards in the fourth quarter. According to Pro Football Reference, that was just the seventh time since 1994 that an NFL player has recorded a sack of 28-plus yards. TIGHT ENDS STAND OUT IN WIN • Miami got contributions from a pair of unheralded tight ends. TE Adam Shaheen got it going early with a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter. It was Shaheen’s second touchdown in as many weeks and the sixth touchdown reception of his career. • Shaheen totaled a career-high 51 receiving yards. He had 47, enough for his career high, in just the first half alone. Shaheen caught a 43-yard pass in the second quarter for the longest reception of his career, setting up a Dolphins touchdown. • TE Durham Smythe caught a 4-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. It was the first touchdown of Smythe’s career.
