The New Pluralism, London 1985 Cerith Wyn Evans’ autumn 2014 exhibition at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery presented a varied body of work brought together ‘in concert’. British artist Wyn Evans described his Serpentine Sackler exhibition as “responding to the spaces which examine the transformative ‘Site/Sight/Cite’ effects that light, sound and duration can have on both spaces and their occupants. The site of the gallery, the perception of sight, the citation of references are multiple and swarming.† Cerith Wyn Evans’s Forms in Space … By Light (in Time), the latest annual commission for the Duveen, is less to be looked at than moved through, a work to be paced, walked under, experienced as a journey or a piece of music. What begins as optical confusion unfolds as a sequence of complex manoeuvres, reversals, mirrorings and inversions. One thinks of the hurtling particles in the Large Hadron Collider (Wyn Evans has visited Cern, under the Swiss border, several times). Cerith Wyn Evans (born 1958 in Llanelli) is a Welsh conceptual artist, sculptor and film-maker. In 2018 he won the £30,000 Hepworth Prize for Sculpture. The son of Sulwyn and Myfanwy Evans, Evans was born 1958 in Llanelli. He was educated at Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant, Llanelli and at Llanelli Boys Grammar School. His father was a noted photographer and painter. Evans is a fluent Welsh speaker. Cerith Wyn Evans : [exhibition, Sepentine Sackler Gallery, London, 17 September - 9 November 2014].
