One of the greatest personages the world can truly be proud of has been Swami Jnanananda. Born on 5th December 1896, in Goraganamudi in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, India, the son of Bhupathiraju Rama Raju and Sita Devi. Swami Jnanananda left for the Himalayas when he was 21. There he practiced yoga, studied Vedic literature and "transcended" into being a legendary saint. He wrote poems, commentaries on classical Vedic philosophy, even original masterpieces like Purna Sutras. In 1927 he left India for Germany where he lectured on Vedic philosophy. However, he used his stay there to study mathematics and theoretical and experimental physics at the College of Science and Technology, Dresden. He then took up research in High Tension and X-Ray Physics at the Charles University, Prague, where he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science. At the beginning of World War II, he left Germany and reached England where he joined the University of Liverpool and did remarkable researches in Nuclear Physics, Spectroscopy of Beta-radiations. He was awarded a Ph.D. there. During this period he became Fellow of London's famous Institute of Physics and wrote a book on high vacuum. At the peak of World War II, he was invited to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the United States where he carried out important research work in Nuclear physics for three years. He came back to India in 1947 and joined the National Physical Laboratory in Delhi. In 1954 he came to the Andhra University and did out standing research work in nuclear physics. He passed away in 1969. “The Saint & The Scientist” is an outstanding book presenting for the first time to the Westem world the Swami's autobiography as well as a selection of his important spiritual, philosophical and scientific writings. • Sadguru Sri Nannagaru on 'Himself'
Sadguru Sri Nannagaru on ‘Himself’ Compiled from the speeches of Sri Nannagaru 1 2 The Childhood experiences of Sri Nannagaru Currently we are in Mupparthipada. When I was in 2nd standard, I did not study in Kommara but studied in a nearby village. There was a tailor named Basha, who came to Kommara from Mupparthipada. For nearly 40 years Basha came to Kommara from Mupparthipada on a daily basis to stitch the clothes. He used to bring his machine and stitch in Kommara itself. I used to take cloth to him and ask: “ Deepavali 3 is nearby; I should wear new clothes for the festival. When will you finish the stitching? Basha used to call me as ‘Jinnuru’. As and when he saw me, he used to say: ‘Jinnuru has come; Jinnuru has come’. He never called me by name but called me as ‘Jinnuru’. He used to tell me: ‘Jinnuru, if you wait here (patiently), I will do it immediately; else it will take a lot of time. See how many clothes are pending to be stitched.” All the people of Kommara made him their tailor. Just now I was asking: ‘How is Basha’? I have been told that he is no more. Else I would have visited him. I thought of visiting him if he is still alive and has become bedridden. 4 In my school days once I asked my teacher: “Who is the founder of Hinduism?” The teacher could not give me reply. Later I came to know that there is no founder of Hinduism. It is a way of life.

  • In-House Quality Check of External Beam Plans Using 3D Treatment
JOURNAL OF APPLIED CLINICAL MEDICAL PHYSICS, VOLUME 17, NUMBER 3, 2016 In-house quality check of external beam plans using 3D treatment planning systems — a DVH comparison Ayyalasomayajula Anil Kumar,1a Roopa Rani Akula,3 Komanduri Ayyangar,3 Krishna Reddy P.,2 Srinivas Vuppu,2 P. V. Lakshmi Narayana,1 A. Durga Prasada Rao1 Swami Jnanananda Laboratories for Nuclear Research,1 Department of Nuclear Physics, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India; MNJ Institute of Oncology & Regional Cancer Center,2 Hyderabad, India; International Cancer Center,3 MGMMT, Bhimavaram, India [email protected] Received 22 August, 2015; accepted 17 December, 2015 This paper presents a new approach towards the quality assurance of external beam plans using in-house-developed DICOM import and export software in a clinical setup. The new approach is different from what is currently used in most clinics, viz., only MU and point dose are verified. The DICOM-RT software generates ASCII files to import/export structure sets, treatment beam data, and dose-volume histo- grams (DVH) from one treatment planning system (TPS) to the other. An efficient and reliable 3D planning system, ROPS, was used for verifying the accuracy of treatment plans and treatment plan parameters. With the use of this new approach, treatment plans planned using Varian Eclipse planning system were exported to ROPS planning system. Important treatment and dosimetrical data, such as the beam setup accuracy, target dose coverage, and dose to critical structures, were also quantitatively verified using DVH comparisons. Two external beam plans with diverse photon energies were selected to test the new approach. The satisfactory results show that the new approach is feasible, easy to use, and can be used as an adjunct test for patient treatment quality check.
