WASHINGTON FOOTBALL LEGENDS ANNOUNCES 2014 HONOREES ------
Honorees will be recognized at the Sixth Annual Washington Football Legends.
January 8, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) – Washington Football Legends today announced its 2014 award recipients, who will be honored at a Charity Benefit Dinner & Auction at the JW Marriott Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. on March 29. The 2014 honorees are:
Quarterback Club Washington Redskins Player of the Year Award PIERRE GARÇON, Wide Receiver
Bobby Mitchell Champion of the Gridiron Award GARY CLARK, Wide Receiver
College Player of the Year Award, Presented by BMW and Mini of Sterling KEVIN HOGAN, Stanford University
Herman Boone High School Player of the Year Award JALEN TABOR, Friendship Collegiate Academy
George Michael Excellence in Media Award JOHNNY HOLLIDAY, “Voice of the Maryland Terrapins”
Washington Football Legends, presented by Marriott, honors the achievements of Greater Washington, D.C. area football players, community leaders, members of the media and Washington Redskins legends. The honorees are chosen by a Selection Committee comprised of respected media members including Glenn Harris, Chick Hernandez, Larry Michael and Rick “Doc” Walker.
“Washington Football Legends is a meaningful endeavor that benefits those in need and recognizes outstanding achievement,” said former Redskins Quarterback and Super Bowl XXII MVP Doug Williams. “Washington D.C. is a special place and a community we all love. GARY CLARK… BOBBY MITCHELL CHAMPION OF THE GRIDIRON Wide Receiver … Washington Redskins (1985-1992) … Led all rookies in receptions and receiving yards in the NFL in 1985 … Named All-Pro three times … Elected to four Pro Bowls … Two-time Super Bowl Champion … Ranks third all-time in Redskins history with 549 receptions and 8,742 receiving yards … Member of the 70 Greatest Redskins … Retired from NFL with 699 Receptions, 10,856 Receiving yards and 65 Touchdowns … Elected to the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame.
KEVIN HOGAN… COLLEGE PLAYER OF THE YEAR Quarterback … Gonzaga College High School (Washington, D.C.) … 2010 D.C. High School Player of the Year … 4,762 Passing yards and 37 Touchdowns during high school career … Stanford University (2011-Present)… 16-2 career record as a starter … Pac-12 Football Championship MVP (2012) … Led team to Rose Bowl berth … Passed for 2,487 yards and 20 Touchdowns completing over 60% of his passes during 2013 season … Born in McLean, VA.
JALEN TABOR… HERMAN BOONE HIGH SCHOOL PLAYER OF THE YEAR Cornerback … Friendship Collegiate Academy … Under Armour All-American … A two-time All- Met Performer … Intercepted five passes and had 17 pass breakups as a senior … Helped lead team to a second consecutive appearance in the DCSAA AA championship game … Will attend University of Arizona on an athletic scholarship beginning fall of 2014.
JOHNNY HOLLIDAY… GEORGE MICHAEL EXCELLENCE IN MEDIA Sports Radio Broadcaster … “Voice of the Maryland Terrapins” football team since 1979 … Has broadcast more than 1,200 University of Maryland games … Presented with the Chris Schenkel Award (National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame) in 2006 for his distinguished career … Named to “60 Influential Marylanders” list by the Maryland Daily Record in 2010.

Washington Football Legends is an evening of tribute, food and fun that honors greater Washington, D.C. area football players, community leaders, members of the media and Washington Redskins legends. It was established in 2009 by both the Shack Harris & Doug Williams Foundation and the Joyce & Thomas Moorehead Family Foundation. Since inception, Washington Football Legends has awarded more than $110,000 in charitable grants and college scholarships in the Washington, D.C. area.
