Final Destination: Mumbai Semis and Grand Finale of The Final destination: Mumbai Semis and Grand Finale of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League to take place in Mumbai on 29th & 31st August 12th August 2014, Mumbai: On Friday, 29th August 2014, all roads in Mumbai will lead to the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) and the city will have a deserted look as the country prepares itself to witness the Semis, on the 29th of August and the Finale, on the 31st of August, of the spectacular Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League. Reaching the crest of six weeks of power-packed performances during the league phase, touring the length and breadth of the country, the Kabaddi caravan will reach its climax, where it all began - the city of dreams, Mumbai. Previously slated to take place in Bengaluru, the Semis and the Finale of the league have now been shifted to Mumbai in a gesture to honour the fantastic set-up of the NSCI and the rousing welcome that the city's sports fans and celebrities extended to the league's inaugural leg. Priced at Rs. 300 per day, tickets for the finales will be available on Book My Show starting the 20th August and also at the stadium. Since its inception and through decades, Kabaddi has made Maharashtra one of its favourite destinations in the country. Having hosted multiple national and international tournaments, the state has provided the country with some of its best talents in the sport and will also prove to be the best host. Through the last two weeks, the league has witnessed the best of Kabaddi in a dazzling new avatar, with an impressive viewership and a great deal of interest amongst the masses in the country and beyond. Never before has any new league managed to create a buzz as huge as that created by the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League. The simulcast of the league on STAR Sports 2 and STAR Gold witnessed an astonishing 218 million viewers just in the first week. There were more than 1 Billion impressions on social media. Currently half-way through, the tournament is all set to conquer its next league-stage destinations - Pune, Vizag, Jaipur and Bengaluru. At this stage in the tournament, with six victories and two draws, the U Mumba team has announced its Kabaddi prowess and have been on the top of the league standings with an undefeated streak in the first eight matches. Not far behind are the teams lead by two of the most charismatic captains in the league, Navneet Gautam's Jaipur Pink Panthers and Rakesh Kumar's Patna Pirates. Fighting to make each raid count, these teams have also rocketed themselves to top half of the table. The commendable Bengaluru Bulls have also displayed some of the best performances in the tournament and have not dropped to the bottom half of the points table ever since the beginning of the league. Though the Warriors from Bengal, the Dabangs from Delhi and the Telegu Titans have fallen just short of wins in more occasions than one, their resilience has been remarkable. However the Puneri Paltans have their task cut out if they want to make it to the decisive stages of the league. With the league proceeding to its closing stages at a swift pace, the Kabaddi juggernaut will reach its conclusion at the NSCI. Speaking about Mumbai hosting the Grand Finale of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League, Charu Sharma, Managing Director of Mashal Sports said, "Mumbai provided us with the perfect launch pad for the league and by hosting the finale, we are sure that it will provide a befitting farewell as well. Though we are sure that Bengaluru would have left no stone unturned to make the final few matches a grand affair, we wanted the League to come a full circle, reaching the pinnacle where we began. We are sure that Mumbai will greet us with the same warmth and euphoria in the concluding stage, as it did when we first started on our expedition. I would encourage fans to purchase their tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, given that we have had multiple legs in the league where tickets have been sold out days before to the league arriving in the city." Mr. Uday Shankar, STAR India CEO concluded, "Kabaddi has every ingredient, including skill, strategy and speed, to emerge as a serious sport and win a fan following. The opening week response was especially encouraging given that it is a true blue Indian sport. We are confident that with the finale being held in Mumbai, the sport will once again receive unprecedented support from the fans at a similar or higher level to what the city displayed during the league stage matches held in Mumbai." .

Four teams, two matches and all eyes on one prize – the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi trophy and the chance to become Star Sports Pro Kabaddi champions. The top four teams in Season 2 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi – U Mumba, Telugu Titans, Bengaluru Bulls and Patna Pirates have fought it out with their sweat and tears after 60 matches of intense action over 32 days. But while those results have helped them get to this stage, it all boils down to one single moment for these players- The #FinalPanga. How have these four teams made it till this final hurdle – who were their star players and will they be able to step up on the big stage to make it till the end? U MUMBA The table toppers hold a highly impressive record in Season 2 with a record number of wins for a single team with 12 out of 14 matches. They have an abundance of riches which they exhibited through their equally good bench strength. They have a super star in Captain Anup Kumar. He has a steadying and calming influence on his players as he guides them successfully through any crisis. On many occasions U Mumba made successful comebacks with Anup himself leading from the front. Anup has got immense help from Rishank Devadiga the find of the last season. He has now become one of the foremost players who can be trusted for the do-or-die third empty raids. Anup and Rishank are capable defenders too, especially when it comes to supporting the main defenders Mohit Chhillar (36 tackle points) and Surendra Nada (28 tackle points), who are the right and left corners and central defender Jeeva Kumar (27 tackle points), known for his gutsy and timely tackles.

  • 11 August 2015 There Are Places That Are Known for Being
11 August 2015 There are places that are known for being producing some of the greatest sportspersons this world has ever seen. In India itself, the city of Mumbai is known for two of India’s greatest cricketers in Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. But when it comes to the ancient Indian sport of kabaddi, Haryana takes that particular mantle. Kabaddi, not yet recognised as an Olympic sport, has been played at the Asian level with India dominating it at the Asian Games since it was first played at Beijing in 1990. This has strengthened its roots especially in the rural areas and the sport being known as –‘hamari maati ka khel’ is now fast gaining popularity all over the country owing to the creation of an action packed and entertaining format in Star Sports Pro Kabaddi. With names like Manjeet Chhillar (captain of Bengaluru Bulls) and Mohit Chhillar (a defender from U Mumba) grabbing the headlines in the sports pages with their thrilling performances and breath-taking tackles, these men and other players who also come from the state of Haryana and participate in Star Sports Pro Kabaddi have put their state on the sports map of India. While there is a need for organisation of the sport especially at the grass root level, this hasn’t affected the huge pool of talent that is unearthed every year with the allure of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi encouraging more fresh faces to join the sport. Taking one village as an example in Nizampur on the outskirts of Delhi and household names like Manjeet Chhillar, Anup Kumar (captain of U Mumba) and even Rakesh Kumar (Patna Pirates) are just a few of the many kabaddi players who can boast of being from Nizampur.

  • U Mumba, Bengal Warriors Have the Edge
U MUMBA, BENGAL WARRIORS HAVE THE EDGE Mumbai, February 29: Defending champions U Mumba and Bengal Warriors have an edge over their rivals Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls as the Season 3 of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi enters the penultimate day of the league phase. How the drama unfolds will depend on the result of the U Mumba-Puneri Paltan match on Monday which is critical to the prospects of the Telugu Titans. With U Mumba having qualified for the play-offs the fight for the last two berths is between Puneri Paltan, Bengal Warriors and Telugu Titans with the last named in a disadvantageous position. Both Puneri Paltan and Bengal Warriors are almost there with 42 points and only a miracle can help the Telugu Titans. Puneri Paltan and Bengal Warriors need a couple of points to pip Telugu Titans who have 38 points and can finish with 43 points with a win against U Mumba. Therefore the dice will be heavily loaded against the Telugu Titans. If Puneri Paltan win against their traditional Maharashtra rivals U Mumba then whatever Telugu Titans faintest hopes, they might have well receded. So it all boils down to the match on Monday. A draw on Monday is enough to see Puneri Paltan going through and their record of three draws this season speaks a lot. Therefore the match between Bengal Warriors and Bengaluru Bulls will be watched more keenly. A win will see the Bengal Warriors advance. There is no reason why they should not beat the team from the South whom they have had convincing win against by a margin of 10 points in the first leg.

  • Bringing up the Rear Without a Win Each Are Puneri Paltan and Last
28 July 2015 Season 1 finalists, U Mumba seem to be replaying history repeating their successful run with their sixth straight win in Season 2 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi. Can they finish on top with an unbeaten record? That will be answered come Saturday when they play Dabang Delhi who have had a mixed bag of success having won two of their four matches till date and lie in fourth place behind Telugu Titans and Bengaluru Bulls. Both the teams from the South have four wins each from five outings with the Titans placed in second spot having tallied 21 points to 20 gained by the Bulls. Right now, the top three are well placed and a good second leg will assure them a place in the play-offs. Bringing up the rear without a win each are Puneri Paltan and last season’s champions Jaipur Pink Panthers with just three points as a result of having managed to lose three of their matches each by a margin of less than seven points. Placed above them are injury-hit Bengal Warriors and Patna Pirates. Both have seven points in five and three matches respectively. The latter are scheduled to play their next four matches at home in Patna before the caravan moves into the second half of Season 2 and will be hoping to improve their standing with support from the home crowd. The Pirates start their campaign on home turf with a tough encounter against Telugu Titans followed by a meeting with Dabang Delhi, Puneri Paltan and Bengal Warriors in that order.
