There is another hibachi Amber restaurant in the W80s. One of the principals will manage the restaurant. Renewal application #2010310-DCA to the Department of Consumer Affairs by 50 West 72nd REST, LLC, d/b/a Riposo 72, for a four-year consent to operate an unenclosed sidewalk café with 8 tables and 16 seats. Presenting: Phil Alotta, Steve Wygoda Postings were fine. No complaints from tenants anymore. There were complaints in the past. But they have been resolved. Not opened for lunch on Mon-Fri. But, they would like to open for lunch. The SLA has to know about the changed hours of operation. Applicant will inform the SLA. -

But much of what started then still seems like unfinished business. Last month, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra called forth a sonic reminder of 1913 with a concert performance at Carnegie Hall of STRAVINSKY’S Rite of Spring—the hard- charging, slashing creation that Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes famously dropped on Paris on May 29 of that year. Then and now, what made THE Rite so modern is not just its innovative sound but also its exploration of ritual. The ballet’s subtitle, after all, is Pictures of Pagan Russia in Two Parts. Unfortunately, mysticism, so influential to early modernism, has largely been scrubbed from the history of art (a point that Hilton Kramer sought to correct in his book The Triumph of Modernism). The odd cults and high priests that influenced modernism have been debunked and tossed aside, while the art they broadly inspired has been left out to dry. This may help explain why THE Rite’s own spiritual mentor has been largely forgotten. -

The journal is dedicated to presenting original research by graduate students in Art History and related fields. For each volume the editors convene an editorial board made up of students from the department and review all new submissions. The strongest papers are then sent to established scholars in order to confirm that each one will contribute to existing scholarship. Articles appearing in RAR are abstracted and indexed on line in America: History and Life, ARTbibliographies Modern, the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, BHA (Bibliography of the History of Art), Historical Abstracts, and the Wilson Art Index. The journal is distributed by subscription to many of the finest university, museum, and public libraries in North America and Europe. Beginning in 2013 RAR will be available for download on RAR's website, as well as via the search engines listed above. For this reason we will no longer be accepting subscriptions for RAR from volume 29 onwards. -

Landmarks PFeservation Commission Apl!"~l :J\.2, 198~ Designation List 164 LP-1.239 SOFIA BROTHERS WAREHOUSE (originally Kent Automatic Parking Garage), 34-43 West 61st Street, Borough of Manhattan. Built 1929-20; Firm of Jardine, Hill & Murdock. Landmark Site: Borough of Manhattan. Tax Map Block 1114, Lot 1. On May 19, 1981, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of the Sofia Brothers Warehouse and the proposed designation of the related Landmark Site (Item No. 5). The hearing had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Five witnesses spoke in favor of designation. There were five speakers in opposition to designation. DESCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS The Art Deco Sofia Brothers Warehouse was designed by the firm of Jardine, Hill & Murdock as one of two Kent Automatic Parking Garages. Built in 1929-30, the garage used a patented automatic parking system in which an electrical "parking machine" engaged cars by their rear axles and towed them from the elevator platform to park ing spots. As the use of automobiles increased after the First World War, the crea tion of parking facilities became a necessity in urban areas and the design of garages a new field for architects.l However, in September of 1931, the Kent garage enterprise failed, and the company was reorganized without the Kent Brothers. The building was operated as a garage until 1943, when the Central Savings Bank (holder of the mortgage), sold it to the Sofia interests, who removed the garageapparatus blocked up the original vehicular entrance on Columbus Avenue, and converted the building to a storage warehouse. -

On March 16, 2012, Plaintiffs United Spinal Association and Disabled In Action (collectively, "Plaintiffs") and Defendants Board of Elections in the City of New York ("BOE") and Julie Dent, in her official capacity as President of the BOE (collectively, "Defendants"), filed Motions for Summary Judgment in the above-referenced matter. On August 8, 2012, this Court entered a Memorandum and Order (the "August 8th Order"), which granted Plaintiffs' Motion and denied Defendants' Motion. Since its issuance of the August 8th Order, the Court has held three hearings focused solely on the question of appropriate remedy. By letter dated October 11, 2012, the Department of Justice, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 517, appeared and submitted a proposed Case 1:10-cv-05653-DAB-HBP Document 119 Filed 10/18/12 Page 2 of 129 Order for a remedial plan. Plaintiffs and Defendants (collectively, Uparties"), and the Department of Justice, were instructed to meet and confer to develop and propose a joint plan for the Court to consider before it entered a remedial Order in this matter.
