  • York 9 FC Sets Date for Inaugural CPL Match
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Tue Sep 28 21:15:26 2021 / +0000 GMT York 9 FC sets date for inaugural CPL match By Jake Courtepatte The Canadian Premier League is ready for kickoff. York 9 FC was announced at a Toronto event last week as one of two sides to compete in the League's inaugural match this coming spring, set to face off against Hamilton's Forge FC in a road match on April 27. The closest rivalry in the seven-team league by geographical proximity, York 9 Manager Jimmy Brennan said the match will take on ?even more significance?. ?It's a bit more special because it's a local derby and we'll have York 9 presence in the stands, but we want to get out there and have a good start to the season and hopefully come away from that game with three points,? said Brennan. ?It's always exciting, but to kick off the Canadian Premier League and make history makes it a special game for everybody.? Brennan and his executives also announced a special treat for the hundreds who have already booked their seat for the league's historic first season: all season ticket holders will be bussed to and from the game in Hamilton at Tim Hortons Field, to free seats in a special York 9-only section. ?We've had a lot of time to build and once we get that first game underway, the season starts and everything you've worked toward is ready to roll out,? said Brennan.

  • York 9 FC Planning on Run at Voyageurs Cup
This page was exported from - The Auroran Export date: Mon Sep 27 20:00:46 2021 / +0000 GMT York 9 FC planning on run at Voyageurs Cup By Jake Courtepatte York 9 FC bench boss Jimmy Brennan knows a thing or two about winning a Canadian championship. In an unprecedented move by the Canadian Soccer Association, members of the inaugural season of the Canadian Premier League will have the opportunity to vie for this year's Voyageurs Cup, the Canadian championship only ever won by Major League Soccer clubs. ?I won a few with TFC as a player and coach, and I'd love to win one with York 9,? said Brennan, who will be the only member of a CPL squad, player or coach, to lift the Cup. Awarded since 2002 by the Voyageurs, a national organization of Canadian soccer fans formed in 1996, the Voyageurs Cup has annually pitted the best of the best in Canadian soccer against each other throughout a season-long format. This season's participants, announced on Monday, will include first-year teams for the first time in the tournament's history. ?Because it's the first year of this format, everyone is gonna have a go at it,? said Brennan. ?We're keen to show our value in the CPL by getting into stages with MLS teams and showing them what we could do. ?We're taking all competitions seriously. We'd love to have a great run in the Cup, even to win it. Same goes for the league.? With the CPL set to kick off its inaugural season in April, a revamped Voyageurs Cup schedule has been in the works for months, more than doubling the number of participating clubs.

  • 2020 Canada Soccer Annual Report
A MESSAGE FROM DR. NICK BONTIS, PRESIDENT Even with so much of the world’s attention focused on the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year, there has been a parallel conversation in many organizations around equity, diversity and inclusion. Whether prompted by the death last May of George Floyd, or simply brought into sharper focus by our collective reckoning with systemic racism, representation is something that no organization – including Canada Soccer – can afford to ignore. That is one reason we have been so focused on diversity in the first 100 days since I was entrusted with the role of President. Our Board of Directors needs to be more reflective of the athletes we represent. It needs to look more like our National Teams. When I was elected, we had two female Directors out of 14, and that, to me, was unacceptable. Slowly, but surely, we will raise the profile of women on the Board and increase our racial diversity. 2 CANADA SOCCER 2020 ANNUAL REPORT One of the first things I did as President was national pride. That shows the power we have in practices, and leverage our expertise so we’re to recommend Charmaine Crooks as Vice- women’s soccer, and we have to communicate not duplicating our efforts. During my first 100 President. The five-time Olympian and Olympic that opportunity to private investors – that days, I’ve reached out to our stakeholders – our silver medallist is the first woman – and the first women’s professional soccer is a long-term member organizations, professional clubs, and black woman – to become a senior officer of viable investment.

  • 2019 Canada Soccer Annual Report
A MESSAGE FROM STEVEN REED, PRESIDENT During my tenure as President, I have had the privilege to continue the momentum established this past decade to ensure that the foundation for Canada Soccer Nation would be further strengthened. Although this Annual Report reflects on the year of 2019, it is that solid footing that has guided us through an unprecedented time in not only our sport but our world. When I reflect on what I will remember most fondly about my three years as President of Canada Soccer, it all comes down to one thing: the people. It is the people within the Canadian soccer community who have banded together to ensure that our players, coaches, officials, volunteers, fans and their families are safe and will return to the pitch and the sidelines when they are secure. It’s about the team this organization has assembled over the last 10 years who, collectively, have brought us to where we are today – the proud co-hosts, with Mexico and the United States, of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™. We are a country to which other FIFA nations now see as a leader in the soccer world. It’s about Peter Montopoli, who as General Secretary brought necessary professionalism to the organization that laid the foundation for all the successes that followed. It’s about my predecessor and now Concacaf President, Victor Montagliani, who believed in—and advanced—our dream of hosting a men’s FIFA World Cup™ on Canadian soil for the first time. It’s about John Herdman, who revamped the women’s program, taking our Women’s National Team to back-to-back bronze medals at the Olympic Games and a place among the top countries in the world.
