The people who live in the state are called Tamils. Agriculture is the main occupation of this state. About 70 percent of the total population of the state are farmers. Hinduism is the main core of their religion. Hinduism taught them various beliefs, such as salvation by work and transmigration of the soul. At the same time, the farmers are caught up with various traditional beliefs which are very much influenced by their agricultural activities. -
The Ecological Footprint Emerged As a Response to the Challenge of Sustainable Development, Which Aims at Securing Everybody's Well-Being Within Planetary Constraints
16 Ecological Footprint accounts The Ecological Footprint emerged as a response to the challenge of sustainable development, which aims at securing everybody's well-being within planetary constraints. It sharpens sustainable development efforts by offering a metric for this challenge’s core condition: keeping the human metabolism within the means of what the planet can renew. Therefore, Ecological Footprint accounting seeks to answer one particular question: How much of the biosphere’s (or any region’s) regenerative capacity does any human activity demand? The condition of keeping humanity’s material demands within the amount the planet can renew is a minimum requirement for sustainability. While human demands can exceed what the planet renew s for some time, exceeding it leads inevitably to (unsustainable) depletion of nature’s stocks. Such depletion can only be maintained temporarily. Introduction – addressing all demands on nature, from carbon emissions to food and fibres Through the Paris Climate Agreement, nearly 200 countries agreed to keep global temperature rise to less than 2°C above the pre-industrial level. This goal implies ending fossil fuel use globally well before 2050 ( Anderson, 2015 ; Figueres et al., 2017 ; Rockström et al., 2017 ). The term “net carbon” in the agreement further suggests humanity needs far more than just a transition to clean energy; managing land to support many competing needs also will be crucial. -

TAM and Place: The Role of Convenience in Technology Acceptance J. Paul Leavell, [email protected] ABSTRACT This study investigates the relationship between perceived convenience and the technology acceptance model (TAM). Data were collected from a financial institution in the western United States. The context of the study was the intention of this institution’s customers to use an interactive teller machine (ITM). ITMs are automated machines that are replacing tellers in some bank branches allowing customers to engage in transactions such as loan payments, cash deposits and withdrawals, cashing checks, and funds transfers. ITMs differ from automatic teller machines (ATM) in that they allow for assisted interactions by branch and/or remote staff. ATMs are generally not deployed with the expectation of assisted self-service transactions. Conceptual Framework The technology acceptance model (TAM) has been used to study how individuals come to accept and use technology. The model was an extension of Fishbein’s and Ajzen’s (1975) theory of reasoned action (TRA) which posited that intention for a given behavior was a consequence of an individual’s attitude and subjective norms. Davis (1989) decomposed the attitude construct into perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Since Davis, the model has been used in a myriad of contexts: for example, online shopping (Ashraf, Thongpapanl, & Auh, 2014; Panchamia & Doctor, 2015; Lu & Rastrick, 2014), self-service banking (Kansal, 2016), adoption of app-based cab services (Roy, 2016), online education (Landry, griffeth, & Hartman, 2006; Cheng , 2011), medical technology (Seeman & Gibson, 2009), and customer management (Šebjan, Bobek, & Tominc, 2017). Various models have been proposed to extend the TAM with additional variables: for example, self-efficacy (Joo, Park, & Lim, 2018), motivational variables (Siegel, Acharya, & Sivo, 2017), variables from the diffusion of innovation theory (Lee, Hsieh, & Hsu, 2011). -

There appears to be a kind of master discourse of consumption, consumers and consumer society, generated and sustained, primarily, by discourses of consumer sovereignty, and the customer-driven firm. To the extent that we, as consumers, accept (all or some of) this master discourse then we are partly responsible for the negative consequences that befall many workers producing the goods and services we consume – e.g. we often see relatively inexpensive commodities in terms of a ‘bargain’ rather than the result of someone else’s low pay. There is, however, a contradiction at work because we often do not accept all (or some) of this master discourse. We often do care about the plight of those who produce the goods and services we consume. The problem is the master discourse does nothing to encourage these ethical predispositions or to challenge us to probe our ignorance. The aim of this paper is to explore this contradiction. After reminding ourselves, in part one, of some fundamental facts of political economic life, part two introduces moral economy. -

The 10th International Days of Statistics and Economics, Prague, September 8-10, 2016 CONSUMER CHOICE FROM THE HETERODOX ECONOMICS POINT OF VIEW Lada Rusmichová ________________________________________________________________ Abstract In contemporary heterodox economics papers the main stream economics is most commonly criticized for its Homo Economicus concept. The paper considers this polemic senseless. As long as the neoclassical theory seeks to model with the use of mathematic instruments, it consequently must stay at the highest possible level of abstraction. The Homo Economicus concept is right within neoclassical axioms. This rational substation stays a part of decision of the agent in the institutionalised market from heterodox social economics point of view, it means, on the much lower level of abstraction. The basic part of rationality is utility - measure of consumer preferences satisfaction. Preferences are an individual and selfish impulse for rationality. Simultaneously, preferences are institutionalized; consumer derives his preferences inside psychological, cultural, historical, social consequences. This paper suggestion is that the wrong (irrational) decisions don´t exist as long as preferences are seen in these aspects. The preferences are institutionally influenced and transformed in real-world. The neoclassical conclusion about consumer sovereignty is the real and the most serious myth of mainstream economics which consequents into believe that continuing economic growth in developed countries is in concordance with growing needs of their citizens. Vena, B.A., M.A. Marquette University, 2009 One of the unfortunate implications of industrialization and the rapid expansion of global commerce is the magnification of the impact that humans have on their environment. Exponential population growth, along with growing technological capabilities, has allowed human societies to alter their terrain in unprecedented and destructive ways. The cumulative effect has been significant to the point that the blame for widespread environmental degradation must be pinned squarely on human shoulders. Because of our dependence on these systems for survival, the threat to the environment is a threat to human life. The root of the ecological crisis is found in human attitudes and behaviors. In the late 1960’s it was suggested that Christianity was a key source of the problem because it promoted the idea of human “dominion” over creation. -

Zeller Abstract We present a rationale for the description and diagnosis of fisheries at the level of Large Marine Ecosystems (LMEs), which is relatively new, and encompasses a series of concepts and indicators different from those typically used to describe fisheries at the stock level. We then document how catch data, which are usually available on a smaller scale, are mapped by the Sea Around Us Project (see www.seaaroundus.org) on a worldwide grid of half-degree lat.-long. cells. The time series of catches thus obtained for over 180,000 half-degree cells can be regrouped on any larger scale, here that of LMEs. This yields catch time series by species (groups) and LME, which began in 1950 when the FAO started collecting global fisheries statistics, and ends in 2004 with the last update of these datasets. The catch data by species, multiplied by ex-vessel price data and then summed, yield the value of the fishery for each LME, here presented as time series by higher (i.e., commercial) groups. Also, these catch data can be used to evaluate the primary production required (PPR) to sustain fisheries catches. PPR, when related to observed primary production, provides another index for assessing the impact of the countries fishing in LMEs. The mean trophic level of species caught by fisheries (or ‘Marine Trophic Index’) is also used, in conjunction with a related indicator, the Fishing-in-Balance Index (FiB), to assess changes in the species composition of the fisheries in LMEs. -
