The ESRF program, which was initiated in 1983 under the Canada Oil and Gas Act (COGA), now receives its legislated mandate through the superseding legislation, the Canada Petroleum Resources Act (CPRA) proclaimed in February 1987. Funding for the ESRF is provided by industry through levies on exploration and production properties on frontier lands. The ESRF is directed by a joint government / industry / public Management Board and is administered by a secretariat through which resides within the Operations Business Unit of the National Energy Board office in Calgary, Alberta.     Canadian Political Science Review 3(3) September 2009 Changing the Game Changes the Frame: The Media’s Use of Lesbian Stereotypes in Leadership versus Election Campaigns Joanna M. Everitt (University of New Brunswick – St. John) and Michael Camp (St. Thomas University)1 Abstract This study uses content analysis and interviews to examine how the media reported the candidacy and campaign of Allison Brewer, the openly lesbian leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party. The “news values” that govern political reporting led the media to construct Brewer’s political persona during her leadership campaign using stereotypes of lesbians, activists and women in politics. This stereotypic treatment occurred at a point in her political career when impressions are most important. A year later, during the provincial election campaign her newsworthiness as a “new” or a “contentious” presence in politics had diminished, but had not completely disappeared. Introduction In September 2005 Allison Brewer was elected leader of the New Brunswick New Democratic Party (NDP). While she ran on a platform emphasizinG health care, education, the environment and increased support for social workers (Brewer interview 2006) what cauGht the media’s attention was her personal identity as an out lesbian. Despite the fact that her tenure on the political stage was not long (she stepped down in the fall of 2006 after losinG in the September provincial election), her experiences with the media durinG both the leadership campaign and the general election are of academic interest as they allow us to examine how the media cover relatively unknown political fiGures who happen to be homosexual.

    Overview Report Executive IN THE GTA Summary July 2017 Background The Black Experience Project began with a central question “What does it mean to be Black in the GTA?” From there, the study embarked on a journey of answering this question in an authentic and respectful way. Launched in 2010, the Black Experience Project (BEP) is a research study that examines the lived experiences of individuals who self-identify as Black and/or of African heritage living in the Greater Toronto Area, or GTA (the City of Toronto, and the Regions of York, Durham, Peel and Halton). This study was led by the Environics Institute for Survey Research, in partnership with the United Way of Toronto and York Region, the YMCA of the Greater Toronto Area, Ryerson’s Diversity Institute, and the Jean Augustine Chair in Education, Community and Diaspora at York University. This research aims to provide a better understanding of the lives of Black individuals within the GTA, including the factors leading to their successes and challenges. The results are intended to provide valuable insight and direction in identifying policies and other initiatives that will contribute to the health and vibrancy of the Black community, and by doing so, the health and vibrancy of the entire GTA and beyond. Project results are expected to provide a focal point for the Black community to better harness its assets and expand its successes throughout the entire community. These results will also help the broader community (e.g., community leaders, decision- makers, policy makers, general public) understand and appreciate the diversity and vibrancy of the Black community within their vicinity.
