VIV GROSKOP PRESENTS HER FIRST PROGRAMME As ARTISTIC DIRECTOR of the INDEPENDENT BATH LITERATURE FESTIVAL 28 February – 9 March 2014 and the THEME IS… BLISS AWARD-WINNING WRITER, COMEDIAN AND BROADCASTER VIV GROSKOP PRESENTS HER FIRST PROGRAMME as ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE INDEPENDENT BATH LITERATURE FESTIVAL 28 February – 9 March 2014 AND THE THEME IS… BLISS GENERAL BOOKING OPENS MONDAY 20 JANUARY Prepare to be inspired, cheered, challenged, moved and uplifted. Everyone has their own unique idea of bliss and The Independent Bath Literature Festival 2014 will explore the feeling of pure joy and inspiration we get from the written and spoken word. Over ten Spring days in this World Heritage City, a plethora of national and international names will bring a sprinkling of love and laughter, guaranteed to excite and delight in these uncertain times. General booking opens Monday 20 January. Take a look at our online brochure www.bathfestivals.org.uk for the full programme; meanwhile here are some of our top picks for the festival: o The Bliss Lectures – Bliss is our upbeat and inspiring festival theme. The Bliss Lectures are nine exclusive TED-style events in which writers and thinkers talk about their personal passion, from Rowan Williams on Tolstoy and Philip Hensher on Wagner to Julian Baggini on Food, Patrick Barkham on Badgers and Olivia Laing on Alcohol. o “News Is Ruining Our Lives” with Alain de Botton versus Jon Snow in association with Intelligence Squared. This will be an electrifying debate where the whole audience casts their vote in a ballot box before and after the speeches. Major themes: digital detox; information overload; are we too connected? The debate will take place a week before the US’s first attempt to have a national Unplugged day where people will be encouraged to spend 24 hours away from their mobiles and computers. o A comedy line up with some of the nation’s favourites, including Jennifer Saunders, Mark Watson, Jo Caulfield, Mary Bourke, and Lucy Porter. o Our most moving and inclusive public reading project to date: We commemorate the anniversary of WWI with readings from Faber’s major new anthology 1914 poetry Remembers edited by Carol Ann Duffy. o Amazing new spoken word events: Pin Drop at No.1 Royal Crescent (atmospheric short story night); Short Stories Aloud (short stories dramatised by award-winning actors); Firestation Book Swap (anarchic book-swapping event one for adults, one for children). o Austentatious -- featuring Cariad Lloyd (“the new Catherine Tate” -- BBC3’s The Cariad Show, CBBC’s Fit, BBC Radio 4’s The Now Show), Rachel Parris (Channel 4’s The IT Crowd) -- the sensational Edinburgh Fringe sell-out show -- in full period costume, completely improvised from audience suggestions -- their first ever performance in a Regency ballroom. The Lyric pantomime began its life in 2009 with Jack and the Beanstalk as part of Sean’s first season as Artistic Director. With its very first panto, written by Richard Bean, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm, Joel Horwood, Ché Walker and directed by Steve Marmion, with Stephen Fry as the voice of the giant - the Lyric firmly put Hammersmith on the London panto map with flying carpets, singing cows and dancing rats. Mel Giedroyc, Vikki Stone and Stevie Webb have all joined the Lyric’s pantomime over the years to sing ‘Glory Glory Hammersmith’. The pantomime has launched many new careers through the Panto Ensemble, a group of young performers given training and the experience of taking to the stage to perform, many in their first paid professional roles.

Presented by Arsalan Sattari Productions in association with Neil McPherson for the Finborough Theatre. Cast: Cara Chase. Rob Crouch. Cariad Lloyd. Kristin Milward. “I can make cancer jokes. Because I have cancer” A European premiere from acclaimed American playwright Halley Feiffer, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season on Tuesday, 2 October 2018 (Press Nights: Thursday, 4 October 2018 and Friday, 5 October 2018 at 7.30pm). Karla, a foul-mouthed twenty-something comedian, and Don, a middle-aged man embroiled in a nasty divorce, are brought together unexpectedly when their cancer-stricken mothers become roommates in the hospital. Together, this unlikely duo must negotiate some of life’s biggest challenges… while making some of the world’s most inappropriate jokes. Can these two very lost people learn to laugh through their pain and lean on each other, when all they really want to do is run away? • 'JOSH' IS BACK for a THIRD SERIES on BBC THREE THIS AUTUMN Coming to BBC Three, October 2017 6 X 25 Min Episodes
[Type text] 'JOSH' IS BACK FOR A THIRD SERIES ON BBC THREE THIS AUTUMN Coming to BBC Three, October 2017 6 x 25 min Episodes After a successful second series in 2016, hugely popular stand-up Josh Widdicombe returns for a third series of Josh. Written by Josh Widdicombe and Tom Craine, directed by David Schneider (I'm Alan Partridge and The Death Of Stalin) and produced by Simon Mayhew-Archer from BBC Studios (This Country), the 6 x 25 minute series will debut on BBC Three this October (date to be confirmed). For Josh, the phrase “nice guys finish last” doesn’t quite cover it. He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t realise the race has started, hits every hurdle on the way and then gets strangled by the finishing tape. This series follows his successes (not many) and his failures (many) as he tries to navigate the race of life. Whether it’s being dumped whilst dangling on a zip-line, tolerating an egomaniacal fellow comedian on tour or being blackmailed by a septuagenarian next-door neighbour, Josh always tries to do the right thing…and always comes off the loser. Trundling alongside Josh are his loyal flat-mates, Owen (Elis James) and Kate (Beattie Edmondson), closely followed by their remorselessly attentive landlord, Geoff (Jack Dee), a man so unaccustomed to normal social behaviour that he thinks nothing of moving a fully-grown swan into his house. Meanwhile, Owen, a man usually as relaxed as a sloth in a bubble bath, can’t help but “do a Josh” and self-sabotage a burgeoning relationship with X Factor star, Diana Vickers.
