DLA requires: • 4 credits in math, including Algebra 2 • 4 credits in science; and • Successful completion of an endorsement 1 Advanced English - See complete list of courses which qualify as an Advanced English. Advanced English requirements vary based on Endorsement selected. 2 3rd and 4th Math Requirements vary based on the Endorsement selected. 3 3rd and 4th Science Requirements vary based on the Endorsement selected. 4 Social Studies - FHSP does not require both W. Geography and W. History for graduation. Students are encouraged to take both W. Geography and W. History in LISD. 5 LOTE - Students with disabilities may be able to take other academic courses as a substitute for this requirement as deemed appropriate by the ARD/504 committee. 6 PE Credit/Substitution - 4 credits of PE or PE substitution may be used toward state graduation requirements. The following courses may be taken as a PE substitution: Cheerleading (Varsity, Jr. Varsity, Freshman); Drill Team; Marching Band (1st 9 weeks only); External PE; Athletics; JROTC.     TEA News Releases Online Aug. 15, 2017 TEA releases 2017 accountability ratings AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) today released the 2017 state accountability ratings for more than 1,200 school districts and charters, as well as more than 8,700 campuses statewide. The ratings reveal that approximately 95 percent of school districts and charters across Texas have achieved the rating of Met Standard. In addition, the number of individual campuses achieving a rating of Met Standard or Met Alternative Standard increased again this year, while the number of campuses receiving a rating of Improvement Required continued to decline. Districts, campuses, and charters receive one of three ratings under the accountability system: Met Standard, Met Alternative Standard, or Improvement Required. McMahon is the third Gatorade Alaska Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Colony High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes McMahon as Alaska’s best high school boys basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in June, McMahon joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Jayson Tatum (2015-16, Chaminade College Preparatory School, Mo.), Karl-Anthony Towns (2012-13 & 2013-14, St. Joseph High School, N.J.), Jabari Parker (2011-12, Simeon Career Academy, Ill.) and Dwight Howard (2003-04, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, Ga.). The 6-foot-6, 190-pound senior guard led the Knights to a 13-2 record and the Class 4A semifinals this past season. Born Aug. 26, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he married Christine L. Vetterly Aug. 4, 1984, in Waco. He is survived by his wife; his mother, Alberta Abbs of Pittsburgh; his sons, Christopher and John Abbs of Decatur, Jimmy, Brian and Jason Abbs of Pittsburgh, Craig Abbs of Philadelphia, Pa. and Jay Guthrie of Slidell; his daughters, Melissa Guthrie of Sanger and Erin Guthrie of Decatur; two brothers, Robert Abbs of Ohio and Gary Abbs of Pittsburgh; a sister, Barbara Huff of Granberry Township, Pa.; and 18 grandchildren. Burial followed at Boyd Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Williams, Bruce Williams, Bryan Williams, Alan Abel, Andrew Vandergriff and Eddy Calicott. Abel died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, in Boyd. Born April 21, 1908, in Wise County, he was a retired rancher and farmer. He was a member of the first Baptist Church in Boyd, a 32-degree Mason and a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen in 1991 and two brothers, Aster and Walter. He is survived by a son, Laddy Abel and wife Adarose of Boyd; a daughter, Lynn Norville and husband Robert of Avinger; eight grandchildren, Bill, Bruce, Bryan, Brenda, Cheryl, Alan, Annette and Lesa; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
