    A Little Bit About Canadian Cowboys Association The Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA) was founded in 1963 The CCA’s mission is to promote the sport of rodeo, and is committed to attracting new cowboys and cowgirls, increasing the number of spectators and attracting the media to the tradition and heritage of rodeo and the families that make up the Canadian Cowboys Association. the CCA started out with 60 members, and sanctioned 15 rodeos its first season. The very first rodeo approval went to the Sandhill Roping Club in Lancer, Saskatchewan. Annually, the CCA sanctions more rodeos than any other association, pro or semi-pro. Community rodeos, Today, the Canadian Cowboys Association has grown to be the largest semi-pro rodeo association in Canada. Sanctioning over 50 rodeos with memberships rising to over 1,000, the CCA now runs its rodeos throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. CCA Membership includes members from the Prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, British Columbia, Montana, Mexico and Australia. It is estimated that just the sport of rodeo, in Canada alone, is attended by more than 1.3 million people nationwide, with the CCA recording over 250,000 attendees at both their sanctioned rodeos throughout the rodeo season, and at the CCA Finals Rodeo in October. The Canadian Cowboys Association Finals Rodeo was once held in conjunction with the Canadian Western Agribition, bringing in over 20,000 spectators to the venue each year. This is the Fourth year the annual event is being held in Swift Current, SK. One goal of the CCA is to promote the sport of rodeo to new members, the public and the sports media.

Bull of the Year 105 JOHNNY RINGO - Vold Rodeo Co. Ltd. In a world where “bad” means “good” Johnny Ringo is one bad bull. “He came from Nate and Jackie Gardner at Arrowwood,” said Nansen Vold. “He’s six years old. He’s very tiny for a bull.” It’s certainly not his 1,250-lb size that prompted his win of Bull of the Year; it was the fact that he is a terrific challenge to the bull riders who statistically make money on his back. “He bucked at 25-30 rodeos this year,” said Vold. “At Okotoks he bucked off Brock Radford; at Stavely they were 90 points on him.” In fact, $12,500 was won by Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage when he covered Johnny Ringo at Stavely’s 2017 Glen Keeley Memorial Bull Riding, only the second time that the bull had been ridden.     June 24, 2020 | Red Deer, AB — The Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA), Westerner Park and the Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce made the difficult yet important decision to postpone this year’s Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR47) until 2021. With the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 related health guidelines and the cancellation of many qualifying rodeos this summer, they determined the standard of excellence and quality of experience that fans and competitors expect from the Canadian Finals Rodeo would not be achievable this year. CFR is a national championship rodeo, originally planned to run November 3 – 8th, 2020. The world-class rodeo consistently attracts the best contestants and stock in the land and over 43,000 attendees. This six-day event contributes an economic impact of approximately 37 million dollars. Albertans, Canadians and international visitors gather to watch over 100 of the world’s best rodeo athletes compete in the final event of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association season. After careful consideration, the ultimate decision to postpone CFR47 until 2021 was made. “The health, safety and protection of our athletes, animals and guests is always our top priority,” says Jeff Robson, General Manager, CPRA. “During these uncertain times, and considering the pandemic, economic instability and reality of the extensive preparation that goes into a successful rodeo, we know it is the right decision to postpone this year’s event.” “Rodeo is built on community. Dale had loaned us a number of items including a CRCA (Now CPRA) Amateur Saddle Bronc Champion trophy saddle from 1972, a Champion Boys Wild Steer and Cow Riding Champion bronze relief plaque made by Charlie Beil for the Calgary Stampede in 1967, a pair of leather chaps, two cowboy hats, and a poster from the 1981 Canadian Finals Rodeo featuring Brian and a bull named “Doodle Gibbs.” Dale’s contributions provided me with the foundation for my exhibit. I have known Dale and his wife Dino since I was a young kid.
