INIFD to encourage upcoming Gen Next Designers at Lakme Fashion Week - the premium platform for all budding designers. Young Designers to present at ‘INIFD presents Gen Next’ at Lakme Fashion Week are Aditi Holani, Aiman Agha & Armaan Randhawa ,Nitin Chawla, Pronoy Kapoor, Quirk Box by Rixi Bhatia & Jayesh Sachdev. The Gen Next designers will be mentored by Fashion Designer & Stylist Aki Narula. Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) is rolling out some of the best creations by its students at ‘The Source’ at Lakme Fashion Week from 23rd to 27th August 2013, blending unique Indian workmanship with design to International buyers at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Mumbai where the buyers, top international & national media, film stars & celebrities can recognize and appreciate the designing caliber of budding INIFD designers. This season Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013 is set to see innovative fashionable silhouettes with a twist. The designer garments which are to be displayed by INIFD at ‘The Source’ at Lakme Fashion Week were showcased by the INIFD student designers. INIFD has set a novel bench mark by giving its students an opportunity to showcase their work in the same arena as the Lakme Fashion Week designers. INIFD presentation at Lakme Fashion Week will give a sneak peak into a designer's creation providing a first look at the collection. INIFD is going to be housing their best creations at Lakme Fashion Week, giving the fashion forward guests a preview of the future designers in India. The buyers and critiques will be in for some explicit traditional textile and art forms from various parts of India. Costuming in Devdas, Don, and Om Shanti Om can be read as a strategic effort to situate each film along with its predecessors in a new vision of the industry’s past and present. SinceUSE the early 1990s, India has been transformed by economic policies that have nurtured the growth of capitalism. Consumerism is celebrated in film at the same time, as filmmaking itself is undergoing structural change. Costume plays a critical role in these processes, operating in remakes to appropriate elements of each film’s forerunners in ways that illustrate the new film’s superiority. The case studies presented here illustrate how this is done: costumes are readily translatable into the commoditized clothing that is part of the new consumerism: they signal high production values; they are complicit in the construction of contemporary stardom; and they embody “professionalism” via the employment of well-connected fashion designers. At the same time, by illustrating the limits of masquerade or by reconfiguring the dilemmas of modernity as a myth, costume assists in the projection of themes that are more conservative than those of each film’s forerunners.
