The West Coast trip was a big one for rejections at the rim as Lopez blocked a season-high five shots at Phoenix on the first game of the trip. Through November 20, Lopez had 867 career blocks and was averaging 1.7 blocks per game this season. Lopez surpassed George Johnson, who played for the Nets from 1977-80 and in 1984-85, leading the league in blocks while with the Nets in 1977-78. Lopez ranks eighth among all active NBA players with a block percentage of 4.9. In the first 13 games of the season through November 20, Booker led the Nets with 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while averaging 9.8 points per game. He’s posted four double-doubles already, one shy of his career high for a season. It’s not uncommon to see the 6-foot-8, 228-pound big man grab a defensive board and take it end-to-end for the basket. But he always played like it. “They have a chip on their shoulder,” said Brooklyn Nets coach Kenny Atkinson of players that have shared Kilpatrick’s path through the D-League to the NBA. “Sean has a chip, there’s no doubt about it. I think there’s an angry chip and a healthy chip, and his is healthy. It’s in a good spirit. “He’s not putting anybody down, but he feels like he didn’t get what he deserved. His personality is such that he keeps that chip on his shoulder. Every practice he’s trying to prove himself. I don’t think it’s sunk in, you’re an NBA player now. But I love that he has that chip.” While he was playing to prove he belonged through two 10-day contracts before signing a multi- year deal in mid-March, Kilpatrick embraced the opportunity and the experience with an infectious enthusiasm. It was easy to find in an active and upbeat social media presence. 15 | 16 BROOKLYN NETS BASKETBALL 15 Quite simply, it’s always been clear there and play your game. • Brooklyn-Based Tgi Office Automation Brings Nearly 50 Years of Technology Expertise to Barclays Center
BROOKLYN-BASED TGI OFFICE AUTOMATION BRINGS NEARLY 50 YEARS OF TECHNOLOGY EXPERTISE TO BARCLAYS CENTER TGI Forms Partnership with the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center BROOKLYN (September 21, 2012) – Reaffirming their commitment to supporting local businesses, Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets have formed an alliance with Brooklyn-based TGI Office Automation, one of the nation’s most reputable office solutions provider. TGI will provide Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets with office equipment, including copiers, printers and fax machines. Factory trained service technicians and certified network engineers will be available to provide dedicated around the clock customer service. Environmental sustainability is important to Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets and TGI Office Automation. As part of their commitment to the environment, TGI will hold an event during a Brooklyn Nets game to collect empty printer cartridges which will then be recycled in order to keep them out of landfills. “We were thrilled when the opportunity to partner with Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets presented itself,” said TGI CEO Frank Grasso. “This partnership gives us the opportunity to connect with the people of Brooklyn in ways we wouldn’t otherwise be able to and provides us with an international stage to showcase what Brooklyn businesses are really all about.” In addition to the recycling program, TGI will provide other ecological solutions, including dramatically reducing paper use, introducing energy star-compliant equipment, and installing software tools to achieve and measure carbon footprint. “Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets are proud to align with TGI Office Automation, a Brooklyn-based business,” said Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets CEO Brett Yormark.

THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY SCHREYER HONORS COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS REVISITING THE SUPERSTAR EXTERNALITY: LEBRON’S ‘DECISION’ AND THE EFFECT OF HOME MARKET SIZE ON EXTERNAL VALUE ANDREW DAVID BRYANT SPRING 2013 A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for baccalaureate degrees in Mathematics and Economics with honors in Economics Reviewed and approved* by the following: Edward Coulson Professor of Economics Thesis Supervisor David Shapiro Professor of Economics Honors Adviser * Signatures are on file in the Schreyer Honors College. i ABSTRACT The movement of superstar players in the National Basketball Association from small- market teams to big-market teams has become a prominent issue. This was evident during the recent lockout, which resulted in new league policies designed to hinder this flow of talent. The most notable example of this superstar migration was LeBron James’ move from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Miami Heat. There has been much discussion about the impact on the two franchises directly involved in this transaction. However, the indirect impact on the other 28 teams in the league has not been discussed much. This paper attempts to examine this impact by analyzing the effect that home market size has on the superstar externality that Hausman & Leonard discovered in their 1997 paper. A road attendance model is constructed for the 2008-09 to 2011-12 seasons to compare LeBron’s “superstar effect” in Cleveland versus his effect in Miami. An increase of almost 15 percent was discovered in the LeBron superstar variable, suggesting that the move to a bigger market positively affected LeBron’s fan appeal.
