He owns a career record of 337-213-1. Under his guidance, Rhode Island College posted a 21-14 overall record and an 8-6 (third place tie) in the Little East Conference in 2007.The Anchormen's 21 wins tied the 2006 edition's mark for the most wins in a season since the 1979 squad won 24 games. Grenier led the Anchormen to 21-20 overall record and an 8-6 (third place tie) mark in the Little East Conference in 2006, despite losing seven seniors from the NCAA Tournament squad in 2005. It was the Anchormen’s first winning season since 2003. RIC also made its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Baseball Championship appearance in 19 years. The Anchormen won their first round contest vs. UMass Boston before the tournament was halted due to inclement weather. In 2005, he led the Anchormen to their first-ever Little East Conference Baseball Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Div. III Baseball Tournament. In the LEC tourney, the fifth- seeded Anchormen swept through the tournament with a 4-0 record, defeating all of the four higher seeds along the way. RIC concluded the ’05 campaign with a 19-21 overall record and posted a 7-7 (fifth place) mark in the LEC during the regular season. During the Fall 2004 campaign, he led the Anchormen to their second consecutive Cardi's Furniture Fall Baseball Classic Championship. RIC concluded the 2004 season with a 19-16 overall record and a 6-8 (fifth place) mark in the Little East. The squad played six games versus teams who were nationally ranked at the time. They were victorious in two games, including a 10-5 win over fourth-ranked Eastern Connecticut. RIC turned the corner in 2003, improving to 20-19-1 overall and 5-9 (sixth place) in the Little East Conference from 10-25 overall and 2-12 (seventh place) in 2002. The Anchormen were 6-22 overall and 2-12 (eighth place) in the Little East Conference in his first season at the helm in 2001. Grenier, who hails from North Smithfield, was previously the Head Baseball Coach at the Community College of Rhode Island, a position he held since 1993. During his tenure as the Head Coach at CCRI, the Knights were a consistent regional power. He was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year in both 1994 and 1996. He was the Louisville Slugger Region 21 Coach of the Year in 1993, 1994 and 1996. Prior to taking the job at CCRI, Grenier was an assistant coach for the Knights from 1985-93. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Rhode Island College in 1981, a position he held through the 1985 season. He has also served as the Head Coach of the Rhode Island Reds, a New England Collegiate Baseball League team. Grenier has also worked as a hitting coach for the Chatham A’s of the Cape Cod Baseball League and as an envoy coach to Jamaica with Major League Baseball International. Grenier, a 1981 graduate of Rhode Island College, is a middle school language arts teacher for the city of Central Falls. He is also the owner and director of the Rhode Island Baseball Academy located in North Smithfield. He resides in North Smithfield with his wife Debbie and their children Chelsey and Garrett. 8 Meet the Coaches Assistant Coach Scott Virgulak Scott Virgulak enters his fourth year as an assistant baseball coach at Rhode Island College. He primarily works with the team’s position players. In addition, he assists head coach Jay Grenier with recruiting, scouting, administering practices and game coaching. During games, he serves as the team's third base coach. Virgulak is also an assistant coach with the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League during the summer season. He was previously an assistant coach with the North Adams Steeplecats of the NECBL. He played two seasons of baseball at RIC in 2000 and 2001. The North Kingstown, Rhode Island native played in 59 games, starting 58 of the them. He posted a .286 career batting average with 43 runs, 61 hits, 33 RBI, 16 doubles, five home runs, 92 total bases, 33 walks and one stolen base. He recorded a .432 slugging percentage, a .382 on-base percentage and a .938 fielding percentage for his career. As a junior in 2000, Virgulak had an outstanding season and was named First Team All-Little East Conference at third base. He batted .377 with 24 runs, 43 hits, 16 RBI, 10 doubles and two home runs. Prior to coming to RIC, Virgulak played two seasons for Grenier at the Community College of Rhode Island. He earned his bachelor’s degree in management from Rhode Island College in 2003. Virgulak is single and resides in West Greenwich, Rhode Island. Assistant Coach Andy Crisafulli Andy Crisafulli enters his third year as an assistant baseball coach at Rhode Island College. He primarily works with team’s pitchers. In addition, he assists head coach Jay Grenier with recruiting, scouting, administering practices and game coaching. Prior to joining the RIC staff, Crisafulli was the head coach of the Swansea (MA) American Legion team and the Bay State Games’ Western Massachusetts squad. He has coached baseball at the high school level for four years at Fairhaven H.S., Bridgewater-Raynham H.S. and in the Somerset school system. In addition to his coaching duties, Crisafulli is a middle school health education teacher in Swansea, Massachusetts. He was a physical education teacher in the Somerset (MA) school system from 2002-06. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Bridgewater State College in 2000. A native of Swansea and a graduate of Joseph Case High School, Crisafulli, a pitcher, went on to play at Quinnipiac University for two seasons, before transferring to Bridgewater State for his final two years.
