In our citations to Jewish law materials, we have used English translations whenever possible, verifying their accuracy by comparing them with the original sources. In some cases, however, this means that the same word will be transliterated differently by various translators. For example, the Hebrew letter equivalents of"s" and "t" are sometimes used interchangeably. With respect to Hebrew and Aramaic sources that have not been translated into English, we of course vouch for the accuracy of the translations. -

A Glance at Stephen King's Life
Appendix: I A Glance at Stephen King’s Life Illustration 20: Stephen King 182 Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947 in Portland, Maine, USA, to Donald Edwin King and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury. When he was two years old, his father (born David Spansky) deserted his family and Ruth raised Stephen and his brother David by herself, sometimes under great financial strain. The family moved to Ruth’s home town of Durham, Maine but also spent brief periods in Fort Wayne, Indiana and Stratford, Connecticut. King attended Durham Elementary Grammar School and then nearby Lisbon High School. He has been writing since an early age. When in school, he wrote stories plagiarised from what he’d been reading at the time, and sold them to his friends. This was not popular among his teachers, and he was forced to return his profits when this was discovered. From 1966 to 1970, King studied English at the University of Maine at Orono. There, King wrote a column in the school magazine called “King’s Garbage Truck”. At the university, he also met Tabitha Spruce who he married in 1971. King took on odd jobs to pay for his studies. One of them was at an industrial laundry, from which he drew material for the short story “The Mangler”. This period in his life is readily evident in the second part of Hearts in Atlantis After finishing his university studies with a Bachelor of Science in English and obtaining a certificate to teach high school, King took a job as an English teacher at Hampden Academy in Hampden, Maine. -

Lucy, the Same Night A Supporting Paper Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of the Department of Art University of Minnesota By Simcha Smith In partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Art November 26, 2019 Committee: Diane Willow, Chair Christina Schmid Leslie Morris 1. 2. Lucy, the Same Night In the center of the empty dream gallery lies a bed. The bed has a wooden frame, white bedding, and a queen size mattress. On the right side of the bed, a gray pillar of unfired clay stretches the length of the bed and slouches beyond its foot. This is titled “Lucy, the Same Night”. 3. 4. Book 1 5. 6. 1. 7. //The dream can be divided by material into objects [space, bed, pillar, title], which further divide into components {the room, the walls/lack of walls, the occupants/lack of occupants, the bed}, {sheets, mattress, pillows, frame, headboard}, {clay body}, {Lucy, the, Same, Night}. The bed can be further reduced into materials (wood, fabric, fill, nails, glue). //White is the initial state. Each time I lie (alone or with another) on my sheets, I degrade and accelerate the degradation of the sheets’ whiteness. The initial white is the result of bleaching and processing. Each time I sleep, I test the sheets’ oil holding capacity. Washing them resets the test but does not rewhiten the sheets. I could (but do not) bleach the sheets and force them white at the cost of the fibers’ integrity. This would not return the white- ness. My (and others’) oils yellow the sheets and the sheets themselves perform yellowing. -

Introduction Wait—just a few minutes. I want to talk to you ... and then I am going to kiss you. Wait ... I Here’s some more short stories, if you want them. They span a long period of my life. The oldest, “The Reaper’s Image,” was written when I was eighteen, in the summer before I started college. I thought of the idea, as a matter of fact, when I was out in the back yard of our house in West Durham, Maine, shooting baskets with my brother, and reading it over again made me feel a little sad for those old times. The most recent, “The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet,” was finished in November of 1983. That is a span of seventeen years, and does not count as much, I suppose, if put in comparison with such long and rich careers as those enjoyed by writers as diverse as Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham, Mark Twain, and Eudora Welty, but it is a longer time than Stephen Crane had, and about the same length as the span of H. -

The purpose of the article is to describe the stylistic and prag- matic potential of paratextual elements in the fiction works by a modern American writer Stephen King. Methodology. The descriptive and com- parative methods, as well as of structural-semantic and contextual analysis, allowed us to discover basic means of the paratextual elements conceptual- ization and define their functions. The survey is based on the material from more than 620 literary texts by Stephen King and their translations into Ukrainian language. Practical implications. The article presents a brief con- templated survey of the basic studies in the theory of the paratext, different views in this sphere in domestic and foreign linguistics; the main pragmatic and stylistic functions implemented of such important in its influence on the reader paratextual element as a title are identified. The study deals with the analysis of the composition and plot construction of Stephen King’s literary works and publicist essays, which resulted in a number of features specific to the author’s writing techniques. Value / originality. The investi- gation shows that the paratext in Stephen King's works plays an important structural and meaningful role in artistic and semantic comprehension of the literary discourse under analysis. The paratextual elements in stories are closely associated with the further text and serve as a clearly deliberate projection of the plot and a reader’s guide into this content. Conclusions. It was determined that the title is one of the main paratextual elements that carries factual, conceptual and subtextual information in the literary works under analysis, as well as introduces a significant layer of cultural informa- tion into the artistic space.
