Prateek Mishra, Clock John Elicker, Delay Clock Notes continued... #ODACRace: With the condensed nature of the 2020 season along with an unbalanced schedule, there was no preseason poll. #SeriesNotes: Tonight’s game is the 25th meeting between SU and BC on the gridiron; the Eagles are the only team that SU has faced in each season since re-starting its football program in 2000. Shenandoah looks for win No. 7 in the all-time series tonight. #LongLiveTheFakeStuff...: Shenandoah will play all five of its games this season on artificial turf. #FunFacts: With the addition of the white, alternate helmet, Shenandoah University has 18 different uniform combos that can be worn. The squad has blue, white and red jerseys along with white, red and gray pants as well as the navy and white helmets. The white helmets debuted in 2014 versus Bridgewater on October 4, were worn four times that season, three times in 2015 and twice in 2016, three times in 2017 and twice in 2018... With Zack Mathis (7) earning his first start in week one, Shenandoah has seen starting QBs wear 13 different jersey numbers but sophomore Chris Sonnenberg’s No. 14 the most popular number on the list with four different men wearing that number to start a game. The current list: No. 2 (Vern Lunsford), 3 (Lunsford, Justin Neff), 4 (Josh Copp, Wayne Hogwood), 6 (JJ Brown), 7 (Zack Mathis, Twaun Rhodes, Ben Rhodenheizer), 8 (Hayden Bauserman, Richard Glick), 10 (Jon Hoffman), 11 (Daniel Wright), 12 (Ben Agostino) 13 (Shawn Lloyd), 14 (Hogwood, Blake Derby, Drew Ferguson, Chris Sonnenberg), 15 (Corey Taylor) and 18 (Phil Gardner).... The Washington & Lee win in 2018 was earned in the red, alternate jerseys and was just the fourth time that SU has not worn its white uniform in an away game... SU is 4-0 in those contests... The Hornets wore blue at Greensboro in 2008, red at Gallaudet in 2014 and red at NC Wesleyan in 2015... That GU contest was also the fourth in program history to not be played on a Saturday and was the first time that the Hornets have won a non-Saturday game... SU has also played on Thursday and Friday in addition to the traditional Saturday contest dates... #SomeOldSomeNew: With the same offensive coaching staff in place, the Hornets primary offensive set is unchanged from the last few seasons. The offense are running from an I-spread with three- and four-receiver sets common in its arsenal. Defensively, the squad stays with the multiple front look that features an aggressive front seven. #Gotcha: The willingness to take chances on special teams has become a hallmark of the Hornets program and showed again in 2019. In week four at Guilford, the Hornets had fakes in both punt and field goal formation. In weeks eight and 11, SU had fakes from punt formation. #Winning: A win today would be the 37th of Yoder’s head coaching career (putting him one game below at .500), his 18th home victory and the program’s seventh versus Bridgewater. SU Two-Deep Injury Report: WR Jake Wallace (out); OL Noah Temme (out) #ALookAhead: This completes the Hornets spring season. SU opens the traditional 2021 campaign on Saturday, Sep. 4 in a 1 p.m. non-league home game versus Methodist. VIII The Presidency of Jacob Ira Baugher 1946-1948 The Choice of a New College Head In response to President Paul Haynes Bowman's formal resignation of his office on April 9, 1945, the college's board of trustees instructed its chairman, John C. Myers, to appoint a committee to search for and recommend a successor. The committeemen were Charles W. Wampler (chairman), Malcolm A. Long, R. Douglas Nininger, John A. Pritchett, and Isaac C. Senger.1 On November 6, 1945, the trustees, accepting the recommendation of its special committee, unanimously elected Jacob Ira Baugher as president of the college, and Dr. Baugher agreed to serve in the position, his term of office to begin on July 1, 1946. In choosing Dr. Baugher, the trustees had considered a statement, presented by Earl M. Bowman and Jacob F. Replogle (representing 16 Church of the Brethren clergymen of Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland), of what they believed to be desirable qualifications for a president of Bridgewater.2 The choice of Dr. Baugher was applauded by those who knew him. "I cannot think of anyone in the Church [of the Brethren], whom I would prefer having as my successor," declared President Bowman,3 who, in the intervening months, did all he could to help his successor make the adjustment to his new office, in the matter of making plans and faculty appointments for the coming session.4 Others who knew the president-elect also felt that his native ability, his training and experience, his character and personality eminently qualified him for the position to which he had been chosen.
