April 13, 2021 His Worship Mayor Charlie Clark and Members of City Council City of Saskatoon 222 – 3rd Avenue North Saskatoon, SK, S7K 0J5 Subject: City Council Budget and Priorities – Downtown Entertainment District To His Worship and Members of City Council, On behalf of the key stakeholders in the proposed Downtown Entertainment and Event District, we are pleased to provide this written letter to City Council demonstrating strong unified support of the Downtown Entertainment District. The purpose of this letter is to request consideration for committed and continued development of the Downtown Entertainment District, incorporating a new Convention Centre (inclusive of Sid Buckwold Theatre) and the Entertainment and Sports Arena. City Council will be inundated with capital project proposals through the budget cycle, focusing on post COVID recovery. It our wish that strong consideration and high prioritization be given to development of the Downtown Entertainment District during these deliberations. The development of the Entertainment District, including both of the anchor venues, is critical to enable Saskatoon to not only bounce back from COVID, but to thrive in the face of that recovery. Economic Impact of Downtown Entertainment District The arena and convention centre (including Sid Buckwold Theatre) are essential components of the economic vitality of the City of Saskatoon, and a significant draw for both business and leisure travel. Entertainment and conference facilities are known to be important drivers of the national and regional economies through domestic and international visitation, facilitating small business, and fostering innovation. Studies validating the economic impact of both venues have been completed in recent years. -

For children growing up in this changing landscape, there are always new trends, platforms and behaviours to keep up with. For parents, teachers and regulators, it can be hard to stay abreast of the latest advancements and the newest risks faced by children online. The Children’s Media Lives study provides an in-depth understanding of how a sample of 18 children, aged eight to 18, are thinking about and using digital media, and how this differs and is influenced by age, life stage, family circumstances, peer groups and wider society. It explores how digital media use evolves over time as children develop and respond to offline factors such as new schools, friendships, and access to new technologies. This is the sixth wave of this longitudinal study into children’s media lives. The unique ability to review analysis, dating back to 2014, allows us to identify structural shifts in children’s media use and to explore the drivers behind new and emerging patterns of behaviour. The sixth wave of research was completed in summer 2019, following the previous five: in summer 2018, summer 2017, summer 2016, spring 2015 and autumn 2014. -

OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER September 20, 2019 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Alan Tandy, City Manager AT SUBJECT: General Information Notable Items Some great news when it comes to water conservation in the City! Bakersfield residents are still saving water, even after Gov. Jerry Brown in 2017 removed the conservation targets set by the Drought State of Emergency. The Water Resources Department reports that we have cut usage by almost 12% compared to 2013, the last year before the drought. That savings is also in spite of the City’s population growing by nearly 18,000 residents over that time. When taking the growth of the water system into account, water use this past August was cut by 15.31% per person per day compared to 2013. In addition to more conscious conservation efforts, we’ve been helped by 2019 being the 16th wettest years on record (since 1894), allowing residents to water their lawns less. The new roundabout traffic control at the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Enos Lane (right) is starting to take shape! The Thomas Roads Improvement Project reports that drainage work is complete and crews will start building the roadway section on the north side of the K-rail in the coming General Information September 20, 2019 Page 2 weeks. This phase of construction is expected to continue through the end of the year. The City’s “General Plan” is an important tool that guides the future development of the City and provides policies to ensure that the community develops strategically and in line with the City Council’s goals. -

This will be the fifth anniversary for the Phantoms and twenty-fifth season for Glens Falls in the AHL. However, the Phantoms owners have agreed to relinquish their lease option should city officials successfully recruit a long-term tenant from another AHL team.
