PITCHER ASHLEY BRIGNAC OF LOUISIANA, CATCHER KELSEY KITTLESON OF LUTHER HEADLINE CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® SOFTBALL TEAMS

TOWSON, Md. – Senior pitcher Ashley Brignac of Louisiana and junior catcher Kelsey Kittleson of Luther College lead the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Softball Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Brignac and Kittleson have been chosen as the winners of the Academic All-America® of the Year award in the University and College Divisions, respectively. A Kinesiology and Exercise Science major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Brignac is making her first appearance on the Capital One Academic All-America® University Division first team. She led the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 51-11 record and the NCAA Division I Austin Regional championship game in 2011 before they lost to the University of Houston, 4-1. Brignac led Louisiana to its 11th Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship in the last 12 years. A Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region second team selection in 2008 and 2011, Brignac compiled a 32-7 record with 10 shutouts and a 1.50 E.R.A. this season. A native of River Ridge, La. has pitched seven no-hitters in her career, including four diamond gems in 2011. Brignac struck out 244 batters and walked 73 in 233.2 innings pitched as a senior. She did not commit an error in 55 fielding chances. After missing the entire 2010 season and part of 2009 with an injury, Brignac dominated the Sun Belt Conference this Spring with a 14-3 record and 1.08 E.R.A. She was named as the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year in 2011 and 2008. In addition, Brignac, who has a year of eligibility remaining, was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week seven times out of 13 possible weeks this year. A NFCA High School All-American, she was the staff ace on the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that won the 2006 Pan Am Championship and gold medal at the 2007 World Championships. A Biology major with a 4.00 G.P.A., Kittleson is also making her first appearance on the Capital One Academic All- America® College Division first team. She received the NCAA Elite 88 Award for the second straight year as the student- athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament in Salem, Va. A native of St. Ansgar, Iowa, Kittleson led Luther College to the NCAA Tournament, a number four national-ranking, and a 41-6 overall record including a 14-2 mark in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Starting in all 47 games, she batted .403 with three home runs and 41 RBI. An outstanding defensive catcher, she had a .998 fielding percentage with only one error in 410 fielding chances. She threw out 9 of 29 base runners attempting to steal and added seven pickoffs. Kittleson was named to the 2011 All-Iowa Conference first team and the NFCA All-Midwest Region second team. A Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader, Kittleson is a member of Luther Athletes Serving Others, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and serves as a Health Science Club officer. Graduate student Katie Duhe, an infielder from Southeastern Louisiana, and senior outfielder Kelsey Bruder of Florida are two members of the Capital One Academic All-America® University Division Softball first team who were named to the second team in 2010. Pitcher Stephanie Brombacher of Florida moved up to the first team after earning third team notice in both 2009 and 2010. Duhe is joined in the infield by sophomore Kayla Braud of Alabama, junior Chelsea Garcia of Oklahoma State and senior Mollye Mlcak of Houston Baptist. Sophomore Raven Chavanne of Tennessee and senior Kandis Jones of New Mexico State join Bruder in the outfield. Senior catcher Cristina Trapani of Southern Illinois and senior designated player Annie Dubovec of Robert Morris complete the Capital One Academic All-America® University Division Softball first team.

Bruder and Brombacher have led fourth-seeded Florida to a 50-10 record and a berth in the NCAA Division I Super Regionals against Oregon this weekend. The Gators eliminated defending national champion UCLA in the NCAA regionals. The Gators actually placed four scholar-athletes on the three Capital One Academic All-America® University Division softball teams. In addition to placing Bruder and Brombacher on the first team, the Gators were represented by senior infielder Meagan Bush on the second team and senior outfielder Michelle Moultrie on the third team. A Health Education and Behavior major with a 3.70 G.P.A., Bruder is one of six Gators who have started all 60 games this season. A native of Corona, Cal., she is hitting .380 with 17 home runs, 65 runs scored and 63 runs batted in. A 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American, Bruder made her third appearance on the All-Southeast Region team this season. She has an impressive .754 and a .491 on-base mark. A finalist for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Brombacher maintains a 3.55 G.P.A. while majoring in Health Education and Behavior. The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native enters the NCAA Super Regional with an 18-2 record, eight complete games, seven shutouts and a 1.08 E.R.A. She has struck out 116 batters with 31 walks in 132 innings pitched. A three-time All-Southeastern Conference selection, Brombacher has held opponents to a .171 batting average. A two- time member of the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America teams, she has compiled a 95-10 record in her career with 666 in 657 innings of work. A native of Lutcher, La., Duhe earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in December from Southeastern Louisiana with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. The recipient of the President’s Medal for Academic Excellence, she began work toward her M.B.A. degree this spring. A two-time All- second team shortstop, she finished the year ranked among the league leaders with a .341 batting average while leading the Lady Lions to a 22-30 record. A .339 career hitter, Duhe finished her career with 186 base hits, second on the school's career list. One of 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, Braud is a Public Relations major with a 3.92 G.P.A. While earning All-Southeastern Conference and Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South Region first team honors for the second year in a row, she has led second-seeded Alabama to a 49-8 record and a berth in the Super Regionals this weekend against Stanford. A sophomore from Eugene, Ore., she leads the Crimson Tide in six offensive categories, including batting average (.437), runs (68), hits (80), (102), on-base percentage (.523) and stolen bases (55). She was the 2010 SEC Freshman of the Year and earned second team All-America honors after setting the Alabama school record with a .505 batting average in 2010. The starter at shortstop in 175 career games for Oklahoma State, Garcia is hitting .337 with 12 home runs, 53 runs batted in and 32 runs scored. A Mathematics/Teacher Education (Spanish) major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Garcia has led Oklahoma State to a 40-17 record and the Knoxville Regional championship. A junior from Moore, Okla., Garcia and the Cowgirls face Houston in the Stillwater Super Regional this weekend. She was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Midwest first team and has been named second team All-Big 12 Conference the last two years. She is also a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar first team selection. A senior shortstop from Galveston, Texas, Mlcak led Houston Baptist to the 2011 Great West Conference Tournament championship and a 36-23 record. A Psychology and Kinesiology major with a 3.92 G.P.A., she batted a team high .364 with a .561 slugging percentage for the Huskies with six home runs and 34 runs batted in. A two-time All- Great West Conference first team selection, Mlcak scored 40 runs and had 17 doubles. One of 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, Chavanne helped Tennessee post a 49-12 record and a berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. A sophomore Political Science major with a 3.92 G.P.A., she led the Southeastern Conference in batting average (.455) and base hits (90). A first team All-SEC and Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Southeast Region selection, the Thousand Oaks, Cal. native stole 33 bases in 36 attempts this season. She added 32 runs batted in with a .551 slugging percentage. As a freshman, she was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America and All-Region teams. She was also named All-SEC as a freshman while leading the Lady Vols to the Women’s College World Series. A Community Health major with a 3.88 G.P.A., Jones is a two-time All-Western Athletic Conference centerfielder who earned first team honors in 2011. She led the New Mexico State to a 44-17 record, the WAC regular season and tournament championships and a berth in the NCAA Tucson Regional. A native of La Mirada, Cal., Jones batted .391 with 59 runs scored, 34 runs batted in and 11 doubles. A Finance major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Trapani batted .268 with nine home runs, nine doubles and 37 runs batted in. A senior catcher, she led Southern Illinois to a 36-17 record and a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament semi-finals. A native of Herron, Ill., she was named second team All-Conference and made only three errors in 244 chances for a .988 fielding percentage. -more-

Ashley Brignac, Kelsey Kittleson Lead Academic All-America® Softball Teams – page 3 An Applied Mathematics (Actuarial Science) major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Dubovec batted .357 with six home runs, 24 runs scored and 30 runs batted in at Robert Morris. She led the Colonials to a 26-26 record, including a 15-5 Northeast Conference mark as the Colonials won the NEC regular season championship. A native of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Dubovec also posted a 3-4 record with a 3.52 E.R.A. as a pitcher. A three-time All-NEC choice, she earned back-to-back first team honors in 2010 and 2011. She is one of two RMU players to earn both NEC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. Four members of the 2011 Capital One University Division Softball first team have perfect 4.00 G.P.A.’s. The 11 first team honorees have an average of 3.89 G.P.A.

Senior pitcher Katie Goetzinger of Wayne State (Neb.) and senior infielder Alix Dean of Angelo State (Tex.) were named to the 2010 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball second team and moved up to the first team this year. Senior outfielder Tanya Davis of Baldwin-Wallace was named to the first team after earning third team notice in 2010. Joining Goetzinger in the circle is senior Stephanie Geer of SUNY-Brockport. Senior Emily Monteith of Anderson (S.C.) University, junior Jordan Reynolds of Olivet Nazarene and senior Stephanie Sullivant of Central Methodist complete the infield. Senior Erin Bohlmann of Morningside College and junior Rachel MacBeth of DePauw flank Davis in the outfield. Junior designated player Marianne Specker of Brandeis rounds out the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball first team. Honored as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year twice, Goetzinger compiled a 30-10 record with a 1.31 E.R.A. as a senior for Wayne State. An Applied Human and Sports Physiology major with a 3.75 G.P.A., she led Wayne State to a 37-17 record and a third straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. In 2011, she pitched two no-hitters and had one perfect game. A senior from Harlan, Iowa, she ranks in the top 10 nationally in five different categories, including strikeouts (316). A two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Central Region selection, she earned third team All-American honors in 2010. A Psychology major with a minor in Criminal Justice and a 3.94 G.P.A., Dean batted .350 with 36 runs scored and 39 runs batted in for Angelo State. Already accepted into law school at Texas Tech, she led the Belles to a 45-14 record, the Lone Star Conference regular season championship and an NCAA Division II South Central Regional appearance. After winning its first 18 games of the season, ASU was ranked No. 1 in the nation for the entire month of March. A second baseman from Collinsville, Texas, Dean earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American honors twice. A Pre-Physical Therapy and Athletic Training major with a 3.93 G.P.A., Davis .351 as a senior at Baldwin- Wallace. She also scored 31 runs and hit four homers with 29 runs batted in, leading the Yellow Jackets to a 28-11 record and their first-ever Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III Central Regional. A centerfielder from Hinckley, Ohio, Davis was named second team All-OAC and finished her career as the Yellow Jackets’ all-time leader in runs scored (140), doubles (51) and runs batted in (146). The recipient of the OAC’s female Clyde Lamb (outstanding female athlete) Award, she compiled a .391 career batting average. A four-time All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honoree, Geer compiled a 15-5 record with a 1.35 ERA and six shutouts as a senior. A Chemistry major with a 3.91 G.P.A., she also has a minor in Economics. As a senior, she led SUNY-Brockport to a 22-15-1 record. A native of Binghamton, N.Y., Geer finished her career with a 59-21 record, 25 shutouts and 1.58 E.R.A. She finished second on Brockport’s career list with 568. A Kinesiology major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Monteith batted .324 with eight home runs, 38 runs scored and 25 runs batted in for Anderson. She led the Trojans to a 22-21 record competing in the South Atlantic Conference. A third baseman from Clover, S.C., she was named second team All-Conference Carolinas as a junior during the Trojans’ final season in the league. She was also named as Conference Player of the Week as a junior. The 2010 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Year, Reynolds batted .429 for Olivet Nazarene. A Business Administration major with a 3.97 G.P.A., she smashed 14 home runs with 58 runs batted in, leading the Tigers to a 50-12 record. A junior shortstop from Metamora, Ill, she led Olivet Nazarene to the CCAC tournament title and the NAIA National Softball Tournament. A three- time All-CCAC honoree, she scored an incredible 83 runs, was 55 of 55 in attempts and had a .759 slugging percentage. She earned All-Region and All-American honors from the NFCA, NAIA and NCCAA twice in her career.

She hit six home runs, scored 34 runs and drove in 50 runs, leading the Ravens to a 41-15 record. A senior third baseman from Liberty, Mo., she helped the Ravens win the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament championship and the HAAC regular season title. A three-time All-HAAC performer who was selected to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Midwest Region first team, she finished her career as the Ravens’ career leader with 17 home runs and 149 runs batted in. One of the NAIA’s national leaders, Bohlmann is an Elementary Education major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A. As a senior at Morningside, she batted .379 with 10 doubles, five triples, a school-record 14 homers and 34 runs batted in. She led the Mustangs to a 46-11 record in 2011, along with a third consecutive appearance in the NAIA Softball National Championship tournament and a third straight Great Plains Athletic Conference championship. A native of Denison, Iowa, she scored 56 runs and was 4-1 with a 1.50 E.R.A. in six pitching appearances. Bohlmann was named to the All-GPAC first team and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Southwest Region second team this season. A Biochemistry major with a minor in Religious Studies and a 3.96 G.P.A., MacBeth was the leading hitter for DePauw University and led the Tigers to a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division III Tournament. She batted .443 with two home runs, 13 doubles, 32 runs batted in and 43 runs scored. The runner-up for Division III Softball’s Elite 88 Award at the 2010 NCAA Tournament, As a junior, MacBeth was named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) first team and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Central Region second team. A native of Indianapolis, Ind., she has been a member of three NCAA Tournament teams and two SCAC championship squads. A versatile performer at Brandeis University, Specker batted a team-leading .368 while starting 21 games at designated player and 10 contests at four other positions. A Psychology major with a 3.92 G.P.A., she drove in 21 runs and scored 14 runs. She also hit seven doubles. A native of South Windsor, Conn., she helped the Judges to a 20-18-1 record this season as he was named second team All-University Athletic Association. As a sophomore, she was named as the utility player on the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region team while leading the Judges to a 29-9-1 record and the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Four of the 11 players on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball first team have a 4.00 G.P.A. The 11 scholar-athletes have an average G.P.A. of 3.95.
