This is the first of three divine speeches in which a patriarch is given travel directions and promises of blessing (12·.1-3; 26.2-5; 46.1-4; see also 31.3,13). The combination of command (v. 1) and promise (vv. 2-3) implies that the LORD's fulfillment of the promise will follow upon Abraham's fulfill~ menT:of the command. 1: This command to Abraham is similar to, and may have been rnodele'i:I ori, tl:ie later c;livine command for Jacob to return to the "tand of your ancestors and to your kindred" (31.3) and to "the land of your birth" (31.13). 2: The promise that a great nation will come from Abraham stands in tension with S'arah's barrenness in 11.30.

  • Role of Women in Islam
Role of women in Islam Maulana Wahiduddin Khan Sunday, November 14, 2010 1 Introduction Understanding of the role of woman is a matter pertaining to the discovery of the creation plan of God. Study of the Qur’an and Hadith tells us that one of the laws of nature is that all the things in the world have been created in pairs. The Qur’an states: And all things We have made in pairs, so that you may give thought. (51:49) The scientific study of the universe also corroborates this law of nature. As discovered by science, the primary unit of the universe the atom, is composed of negative and positive particles. In the absence of any one of the two, the atom cannot come into existence. Just as human beings are born in the form of males and females, animals are likewise male and female. The whole world is said to exist in pairs. In this way, nature’s entire factory has functioned all along on this dual basis. Position of woman The position of man and woman is like cogwheels in machinery, each facilitating the movement of the other. There is no divide either in terms of status or superiority; both are equal partners in the divine scheme of things. Both must contribute to take the journey of life forward. Unfortunately, Europe discovered the idea of equality between man and woman in an unnatural sense. By equating them in every sphere, it developed the notion, ‘What a man is, a woman is and what a woman is, a man is.’ Deliberating seriously suffices to make its erroneous foundation clear.

In Summary .............................................................................22 The Testimony of Faith: Messenger of Allah Prophet Muhammad Before Prophethood rophet Muhammad was born around the year 570 C.E. in PMakkah (Mecca), modern day Saudi Arabia. He was of a noble lineage as he was born into the tribe of Banu Hashim, who were the descendents of Prophet Isma’il (Ishmael) , the son of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) . Prophet Muhammad became an orphan at a very young age as his father Abdullah, died before his birth and his mother Aminah, died when he was only 6 years of age. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his paternal grandfather, Abdul Muttalib until he died when Muhammad was 8 years of age. He was then raised by his paternal uncle Abu Talib. Prophet Muhammad worked as a shepherd in his youth. He later worked for Khadijah , who was a wealthy businesswoman in Mecca. He would trade goods and merchandise for her. Khadijah hired his known virtues of honesty and trustworthiness, and this was proven by the fact that he gave her more returns and profit than any of her workers had done before. Impressed by the Prophet's personality and virtuous character, Khadijah proposed to him and the Prophet married Khadijah at the age of 25.

Dear Rev. Know it all, Where do Muslims and the Muslim religion come from? Charlene “Chari” A. Law Dear Charlene, This is difficult topic, but an important one. First let me say that the issue is not one of better or worse as much as it is one of clear distinctions. When I was in seminary after the heady days of the council, we were much enamored of theologian Karl Rahner's idea of the “anonymous Christian.” He theorized that non-Christians could “accept the salvific grace of God, through Christ, although they may never have heard of the Christian revelation.” In other words all good people were Christian whether they knew it or not. This struck me as a most arrogant idea. “You may think you’re a Buddhist, or a Muslim or a Hindu, but you’re a nice guy, so you must really be a Christian, even though you don’t know it.
