Page 1 of 25 AR JAK Preben Jakobsen Collection Project Files University Museums and Special Collections Service AR JAK Preben Jakobsen Collection Project files, plans, business records Preben 'Ben' Jakobsen (1934-2012) was a Danish born landscape architect and plants man. In 1993 he became the fourth member of the Landscape Institute to receive its Gold Medal. Jakobsen's family owned a nursery business and while he showed little interest in plants in his early days he later chose to study horticulture in his native Denmark. In 1953 he began studying at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, where he became interested in landscape design, eventually returning to Denmark to study landscape architecture at the Danish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Jakobsen returned to England permanently in 1961 and started work for Eric Lyons on Span housing schemes. This collaboration lasted until 1969 when he set up his own private practice with his architect wife Margaret. Jakobsen was considered one of the leading landscape architects of his time and was described by Geoffrey Jellicoe as 'a designer of outstanding ability'. He lectured on planting and planting design and contribution to 'Design with plants', edited by Brian Clouston for the Landscape Institute. • The Singapore Garden Festival
The Singapore Garden Festival http://www.singaporegardenfestival.com/nico_wissing_holland.htm HOME : Award Winning Designers :Landscape Gardens NICO WISSING - Holland For the Dutch garden designer Nico Wissing (Megchelen, 1961), this is a remarkable project: the design and layout of a model garden during the first Singapore Garden Festival ; "From all around the world, ten landscape architects and garden designers have been invited to design a garden in Singapore. It is a great honour to be part of such a select group". Wissing is - what should be described in all modesty as - a rising star in the global landscape of garden designers. His designs are increasingly attracting attention in the Netherlands and abroad. Without exception, every Wissing Garden is well-received. The starting point for the design of a Wissing Garden is basically simple: emotion. Or, as the designer himself likes to say, "You should as it were be able to feel a garden". This Dutch designer still lives in the village where he was born and grew up, Megchelen, a green village surrounded by nature, right on the border with Germany . Wissing's love of flowers and plants, in particular roses, emerged at a young age. Nico was born with green fingers, and those same green fingers are now bringing him international acclaim. At the invitation of the Dutch government, Nico Wissing was one of the four participants to produce the Dutch submission for the World Expo in Germany (Hanover 2000). His moving garden , designed in 2002 for the Floriade, the Dutch world garden exhibition organised only once every ten years, proved a major talking point.

Press Release For immediate distribution CALL FOR PROPOSALS – 22nd INTERNATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL: MAGIC LIES OUTSIDE Grand-Métis (Québec, Canada), October 19, 2020 – The International Garden Festival, presented at the Jardins de Métis / Reford Gardens in the Gaspésie region of Québec, Canada, is preparing its 22nd edition and is issuing an international call for proposals to select designers who will create the new temporary gardens that will be presented from June 26, 2021. Building on the success of the past summer (where 60,000 visitors safely toured twenty-five garden installations), the 2021 Festival is intended to deliver hope, celebrate creativity and bring colour to a world battling to emerge from months of indoor confinement after a global pandemic. Magic Lies Outside is the theme for the 2021 Festival. We are asking designers to acknowledge COVID-19 with an imaginative response. Your challenge is to offer visitors a temporary installation that will create a visceral connection to the outdoors. Doing so within the confines of regulations and sanitary concerns is a given. This means that your project will offer experiences that can be enjoyed in small numbers or assembly points that are generously proportioned to allow the appropriate distance. The modest space you imagine will foster connectivity to the outside world, free of the screen technologies that have been our constant companion for the past year. Being outdoors is one of the few known antidotes to extended confinement. Designed landscapes may be occupied, but still offer safe and secure environments that enhance our well-being and mental health. The installations chosen with this call for proposals will bring awareness of the importance of designed greenspaces and their special magic.
