Monmouth University Poll ARIZONA: DEMS AHEAD for PREZ, SENATE
Please attribute this information to: Monmouth University Poll West Long Branch, NJ 07764 www.monmouth.edu/polling Follow on Twitter: @MonmouthPoll _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Released: Contact: Thursday, September 17, 2020 PATRICK MURRAY 732-979-6769 (cell); 732-263-5858 (office) [email protected] Follow on Twitter: @PollsterPatrick ARIZONA: DEMS AHEAD FOR PREZ, SENATE Support for legalizing marijuana has the edge West Long Branch, NJ – Joe Biden leads Donald Trump among registered voters in Arizona, but the margin narrows under different turnout models. The Monmouth (“Mon-muth”) University Poll finds the Democrat with a large advantage among Latino voters and a small edge in all-important Maricopa County. In the race for U.S. Senate, Democrat Mark Kelly maintains his lead over incumbent Martha McSally. The poll also finds widespread voter support for a ballot measure to impose an income tax surcharge on high-earners and nominally more support than opposition for a proposition to legalize marijuana, although the latter vote could be close depending on turnout. Among all registered voters in Arizona, the race for president stands at 48% for Biden and 44% for Trump. The contest stood at a similar 46% to 43% in a poll taken shortly before the state’s presidential primary in March. Another 4% currently support Jo Jorgensen and 3% are undecided. Voter intent includes 42% who say they are certain to vote for Biden (versus 45% who say they are not at all likely to support the Democrat) and 38% who are certain to support Trump (versus 48% who are not at all likely). Under a likely voter scenario with a somewhat higher level of turnout than in 2016, the race narrows to 48% for Biden and 46% for Trump. -

By Pema Levy | 4/22/14 at 4:32 PM What do the emails of two of Chris Christie’s closest confidants at the heart of the Bridgegate affair tell us about the part the New Jersey governor played in the scandal? Too bad investigators can't get their hands on them to find out. At least not without extensive legal wrangling around one of the most famous but least understood amendments in the U.S. Bill of Rights: the Fifth. Bridget Anne Kelly and Bill Stepien, Christie's former deputy chief of staff and campaign manager, respectively, are invoking their Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in the investigation into the infamous lane closures on the George Washington Bridge in September. The two aides featured prominently in emails published on January 8 showing their involvement in orchestrating and covering up the scandal. Kelly is responsible for the most famous quote from the debacle so far, in which she ordered up "some traffic problems in Fort Lee," setting off four days of gridlock there. In a later email, Stepien called the mayor of Fort Lee an "idiot." As prime suspects, the two were slapped with subpoenas from the investigating committee of the state legislature, along with 16 other officials. While documents from the others, as well as Christie's office and his campaign's, are now trickling in to the committee, Kelly and Stepien will hand over nothing. -

Corporate and Foreign Interests Behind White House Push to Transfer U.S
Corporate and Foreign Interests Behind White House Push to Transfer U.S. Nuclear Technology to Saudi Arabia Prepared for Chairman Elijah E. Cummings Second Interim Staff Report Committee on Oversight and Reform U.S. House of Representatives July 2019 oversight.house.gov EXECUTIVE SUMMARY On February 19, 2019, the Committee on Oversight and Reform issued an interim staff report prepared for Chairman Elijah E. Cummings after multiple whistleblowers came forward to warn about efforts inside the White House to rush the transfer of U.S. nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. As explained in the first interim staff report, under Section 123 of the Atomic Energy Act, the United States may not transfer nuclear technology to a foreign country without the approval of Congress in order to ensure that the agreement meets nine nonproliferation requirements to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. These agreements, commonly known as “123 Agreements,” are typically negotiated with career experts at the National Security Council (NSC) and the Departments of State, Defense, and Energy. The “Gold Standard” for 123 Agreements is a commitment by the foreign country not to enrich or re-process nuclear fuel and not to engage in activities linked to the risk of nuclear proliferation. During the Obama Administration, Saudi Arabia refused to agree to the Gold Standard. During the Trump Administration, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) went further, proclaiming: “Without a doubt, if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.” There is strong bipartisan opposition to abandoning the “Gold Standard” for Saudi Arabia in any future 123 Agreement. -

Whitaker, the chief of staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has developed an amicable rapport with President Trump.CreditCreditCharlie Neibergall/Associated Press By Katie Benner and Maggie Haberman Sept. 26, 2018 o o o o o Updated Nov. 7, 2018: President Trump forced out Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday and announced Matthew Whitaker, Mr. Sessions’s chief of staff, will take over as acting attorney general. Read the latest, here. WASHINGTON — Convinced that the deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein, was ready to resign after the revelation that he suggested President Trump was unfit for the job, senior White House aides got to work last weekend installing a replacement. Matthew G. Whitaker, the chief of staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, would become the acting No. 2 official at the Justice Department, his White House counterpart, John F. Kelly, told him over the phone on Saturday morning, according to two people briefed on the call. To the White House, he was an obvious choice: a confident former college football player and United States attorney whom Mr. Kelly has privately described as the West Wing’s “eyes and ears” in a department the president has long considered at war with him. By late Monday morning, the plan was moot. Mr. Rosenstein was no longer committed to resigning, at least without assurances he was doing so on amicable terms with the president. -
