If at the end of extra time the scores are still level, then the winners will be team which has scored the most tries in the game, including extra time. If the teams are level on points and tries at the end of extra time, then the winners will be determined by a place kicking competition as follows: Each team will be asked to nominate THREE goalkickers. The kickers need not to be predetermined, but they must come from the players on the pitch at the final whistle. No substituted or dismissed player will be permitted to take part. The end at which the competition takes place will be determined by a toss of a coin. The team to kick first will also be determined by a toss of a coin. Each kicker will have two kicks from designated positions on the 22 and 10 metre lines and after each team has completed their six kicks a winner will be declared. If the teams remain deadlocked, the competition will continue on a sudden-death basis. • Case Hawkes V Cuddy [2007] EWHC 1789 (Also Known As Re Neath Rugby Ltd, Cuddy V Hawkes)
The long reach of section 216 (prohibited names) Technical Bulletin No: 136 Case Hawkes v Cuddy [2007] EWHC 1789 (also known as Re Neath Rugby Ltd, Cuddy v Hawkes) Synopsis The decision relates to the ownership and management by two successive companies which ran “Neath”, a leading rugby club in Wales: (a) Gowerpark Ltd, which had been known as Neath RFC (Old Neath); and (b) Neath Rugby Ltd, also known as Neath RFC or Neath Rugby (New Neath). C had been a director of Old Neath. Upon the liquidation of Old Neath, the name “Neath” became a prohibited name under s.216(3) in relation to C – i.e. it prevented him from becoming a director of New Neath - and so he installed his wife as his nominee. The other director/shareholder was Mr Hawkes (H). An unfair prejudice (i.e. contributory’s) petition was presented under s.459 CA 1985 by H against C and Mrs C in respect of the affairs of: (i) New Neath; and (ii) Neath-Swansea Ospreys Ltd (Ospreys), a company managing the Welsh regional side now known as the Ospreys (of which New Neath owns 50%). Topics covered: Phoenix provisions The Facts The facts arose in the context of the re-organisation of Welsh rugby. In 1995/6, when Welsh rugby turned professional, the Welsh Rugby Union (“WRU”) established Old Neath to run Neath RFC and appointed C as one of its directors. Although the team performed well on the field, Old Neath ran into financial difficulties. The WRU then re-organised Welsh rugby for the 2003/04 season, forming regional sides.

2018/19 Challenge Cup Pool Draw The Pool Draw for the 2018/19 Challenge Cup will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland on Wednesday, 20 June at 2.00pm (UK and Irish time) before the draw for the Champions Cup. The key principles and key steps integral to the Draw are explained below. Key principles • The 20 clubs which have qualified on merit from the TOP 14, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, the Guinness PRO14, the PRO D2, the Greene King IPA Championship and from the Continental Shield will compete in the 2018/19 Challenge Cup in five pools of four. • The clubs are divided into four tiers based on the qualification positions from their respective leagues, and on the Continental Shield. A draw will be carried out in advance of the pool draw proper to complete the tiers. • Each of the five pools will include one club from each of the four tiers. • Each pool will have at least one club from the TOP 14, the Premiership and the PRO14. • There will be no more than two clubs from the same league in a pool. • No pool will contain two PRO14 clubs from the same country. • Clubs from the same league will be kept apart until the Tier 4 allocation. • A club from the Continental Shield cannot be drawn into a pool which contains two TOP 14 clubs or two Premiership clubs. Challenge Cup qualification For the purposes of creating the tiers, the clubs are ranked based on their finishing positions in the TOP 14, Premiership, PRO14, PRO D2 and Championship leagues, or on qualification from the Continental Shield.

  • SACA NEWSLETTER December and January Edition
SACA NEWSLETTER December and January Edition SACA 6 Nations Rugby Lunch - Friday 24th of February Following last year’s very successful rugby lunch, SACA will be hosting a lunch to honour the contributions of David Boyd and Walter Hosford to the College's rugby programme. The event is also a fundraiser to help support the current rugby programme. We have a great panel and it promises to be a great day. Following the lunch Ireland U-20's will play France, so you can stick around and watch the game from the new Wesley Pavilion and hopefully Andrew's former pupil Jordan Larmour will be involved! Tickets from Sally Walker in the College (01-2882785 or [email protected]) or on Eventbrite -https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/st-andrews-college-dublin-alumni-rugby- lunch-2017-tickets-31149376624?aff=eac2 2 SACA Newsletter Dec and Jan Edition SACA Newsletter Dec and Jan Edition 3 SACA Olympic Night and SACA Uganda Table Quiz 2016 Two great events organised and supported by SACA took place over the last two months. A great night and a packed house in Gleeson’s for the annual SACA Table Quiz in January to raise funds for SAC TY Uganda programmes and CHEEERS run by past pupils Stu Garrett, Roisin Plunkett and Suzanne Byrne who are also active supporting healthcare in Uganda. We raised around €1500 and had a great night! In November we had one of the great nights in SACA history as the Alumni honoured our 9 living Olympians in a remarkable night at the College.

This case is concerned with the right of the claimant, the Pontypool Rugby Club, a club with a proud history, to continue to play in the Premier Division of Welsh rugby in the 2012/13 season. The defendant is the Welsh Rugby Union, which organises and controls the sport of rugby union in Wales. It is the view of the WRU that as a result of the re-organisation of the Premier Division to reduce the number of clubs playing in it and Pontypool’s position in order of playing meritocracy of the fourteen clubs formerly in the division, the club is now only eligible to play in the Championship, the next division down. The essence of Pontypool’s case is that clubs which are above it on a basis of playing merit have not met the requirements to hold an A licence as required for the Premiership by the WRU’s National League Rules 2011/2012, and so there is a place for Pontypool within the Premiership.
