    DISTRICT DISASTER MANAGEMENT PLAN- UDUPI UDUPI DISTRICT 2015-16 -1- -2- Executive Summary The District Disaster Management Plan is a key part of an emergency management. It will play a significant role to address the unexpected disasters that occur in the district effectively. The information available in DDMP is valuable in terms of its use during disaster. Based on the history of various disasters that occur in the district, the plan has been so designed as an action plan rather than a resource book. Utmost attention has been paid to make it handy, precise rather than bulky one. This plan has been prepared which is based on the guidelines from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). While preparing this plan, most of the issues, relevant to crisis management, have been carefully dealt with. During the time of disaster there will be a delay before outside help arrives. At first, self-help is essential and depends on a prepared community which is alert and informed. Efforts have been made to collect and develop this plan to make it more applicable and effective to handle any type of disaster. The DDMP developed touch upon some significant issues like Incident Command System (ICS), In fact, the response mechanism, an important part of the plan is designed with the ICS. It is obvious that the ICS, a good model of crisis management has been included in the response part for the first time. It has been the most significant tool for the response manager to deal with the crisis within the limited period and to make optimum use of the available resources.

Aiton cv. Udupi Mallige belonging to family Oleaceae, is a fragrant ZAHRS, Brahmavara, Udupi commercial flower crop of coastal Karnataka. Udupi Mallige is being cultivated in homestead gardens District, Karnataka, India and is concentrated in the surrounding villages of Shanakarpura, in Udupi district. The crop has been tagged under Geographical Indication (GI) due to its unique fragrance and quality flowers from Udupi Jayalakshmi Narayan Hegde region. Udupi Mallige is extensively used in religious functions and perfumery industry as it is having Associate Professor, College of Agriculture, University of mild fragrance, which gives a feeling of optimism, euphoria and confidence. Its fragrance is also known Agricultural and Horticultural to cure depression, nervous exhaustion and stress. Udupi Mallige which has been recognised Sciences, Shivamogga, internationally for its fragrance has got potential demand for export market, especially to Gulf countries. Karnataka, India The crop flowers thought the year and the peak flowering is observed during March-April (on season). There is a demand for Udupi Mallige flowers during October to February (off season), as most of the religious functions and marriage ceremonies tend to occur during off season.

    Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol. 20 No. 04 October’21 Original article Postprandial Somnolence and its awareness among the Medical Undergraduate Students: A cross- sectional study Abhishek Chaturvedi1, Anitha Guru2, Naveen Kumar3, Ling Yi Lin4, Daniel YeapTze Wei5, Lai Kah Sheng6, Leow Hjun Yee7 Abstract Introduction: Postprandial somnolence or commonly referred to as food coma is generally experienced after the ingestion of afternoon meals. The performance of an individual gets affected after the ingestion of a heavy meal and this is more pertinent in a college setup where students have to attend a lecture right after the meal. The objective of this study was to assess the awareness of medical students about the factors responsible for postprandial somnolence, to identify the methods used to counteract it and to ascertain lecturers’ perception on responsiveness and participation of the students in a post lunch lecture. Methods: Total 330 students (first year to third year MBBS students) aged between 18-21 years and 40 lecturers teaching first and second year MBBS students were involved in this study. Two separate questionnaires (Part A: students’ perception, and B: lecturers’ perception) were prepared, peer-reviewed, validated and administered to the respective participants. All the responses were compiled and expressed in frequency percentage. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 15.0 for a level of statistical significance of 5%. Pearson correlation was used to get the association between the variables. Results: About 55.75% students were aware about the role of serotonin and melatonin in drowsiness but 45.75% students did not know that food rich in tryptophan relaxes the brain and results in sleepiness.

Even though, tribals are not perceived as untouchable ‘lower caste Hindu’ population by the mainstream upper-caste Hindus, they are marginalized and considered as backward and primitive ‘jati’ or caste with a pariah status (Mitra, 2008). This perception however, did not help the tribals. Whereas, lower caste Hindus enjoyed minimal opportunities to integrate with mainstream society and to share few common custom and traditions, the tribals have been excluded and isolated from the mainstream society (Mitra, 2008). The Koragas are one of the primitive tribes perhaps the poorest among the scheduled tribes in Karnataka and Kerala faced serious problems such as povertyillhealth ,malnutrition, morbidity leading to mortality together with deforestation, exploitation result in depopulation of the particular primitive tribe. Udupi, Karnataka Public Hearing Consultation: As per the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Notification dated 14th September 2006 read with amendments, the proposed thermal power plant project falls under ‘Category A’ with project or activity type number ‘1(d)’, which requires prior EIA for Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India.
