[email protected] MEETING Karlsruhe 2020 A top-class starting field with Yuliya Levchenko, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, and Karlsruhe, 21 January 2020 Imke Onnen The women’s high jump event returns to the Indoor Meeting programme following a one-year break. The women’s high jump event on Friday, 31 January will be a high-class competition. Among the starters in Karlsruhe will be Yuliya Levchenko and Yaroslava Mahuchikh, as well as two other high jumpers who have also cracked the magic two-metre mark in their careers. Imke Onnen, a German athlete, will also participate in the competition. The 22-year-old Yuliya Levchenko from the Ukraine is already in top form for the start of this year’s indoor season. Levchenko already broke the two-metre mark at her first indoor start in 2020 at a meeting in Kiev. At the World Athletics Championships in London in 2017, she won silver with a jump of 2.2 metres. She won bronze at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 and last year in Glasgow Levchenko, whose indoor performance best was exactly two metres, landed in second place. At the World Championships last year in Doha, the Ukrainian had to settle for fourth place despite jumping over two metres. She had to concede victory to her younger teammate Yaroslava Mahuchikh, among others. At only 18, Mahuchikh set a new U20 world record of 2.04 metres for the silver medal, demonstrating her enormous talent.
