An Editor’s Correction

In last month’s Newsletter, it was reported that Alida Tyler passed away. That part is correct; however, her spouse was incorrectly identified as Lamont Tyler. Alida’s late spouse was Frank H. (Internal Medicine). Lamont (Chemical & Fuels Engineering) and Carol are very much alive and with us. I am deeply sorry for the mistake. Dennis Alexander

IMAGINE U; THEN DO VOLUNTEER TO BE AN OFFICER

It is time to replace four officers of the Emeriti Club. The benefits are intangible but well worth it. You meet and serve with interesting people from other disciplines. Serving on the Board, you have input into the speakers’ agenda and luncheon planning. You also have a sense of service to fellow members and the enjoyment of helping others. We will need to fill the following positions for 2014-2015 PRESIDENT-ELECT: The officer serves three years, first as President-Elect, then progressing to President, and finally as Past President. The President chairs the Executive Board and hosts the luncheons. SECRETARY: The Secretary takes notes at the monthly Executive Board meeting and then electronically distributes them to the board members. The person also helps keep an archive of the written documents of the Club. The Secretary’s skills include note taking and electronic distribution of the minutes. TREASURER: The Treasurer accepts all money for dues, luncheons, and special activities. The Treasurer makes a monthly report of the finances of the Club to the Board. The Treasurer also pays the appropriate receipts of the Emeriti Club. Because of the Treasurer’s acceptance of luncheon reservations, the person also keeps the name badges and informs the catering service of “counts” for the luncheons. The Treasurer’s skills include spreadsheet usage, basic accounting, and reporting financial information NEWSLETTER EDITOR: The Newsletter Editor compiles information from board members, members at-large and various web sites to construct the monthly Newsletter. The Newsletter is published 8 times a year, beginning in September and ending in April. The constructed Newsletter is electronically forwarded to the Printing office for postal distribution and to the Email Distribution person for electronic forwarding. The Editor’s skills include standard word processing program and internet computer usage. The Secretary, Treasurer, and Editor are one year terms. However, many people who serve in these offices decide to serve two or three years. The longer service is a nod to the learning curve in each office. Please consider serving and where your talents are best used. None of the officers have the exact skills necessary but the tasks are easily learned and rewarding. If you want more information or are willing to serve, contact the person currently serving in the office or any Board member. We are all willing to share our views.

The Emeriti Club is only as strong as its volunteers!!!
