Charlotte: a Tale of Two Cities
The Echo Foundation presents Charlotte: A Tale of Two Cities The Echo Foundation 1125 E. Morehead St., Ste. 101 Charlotte, NC 28204 704-347-3844 www.echofoundation.org www.inthefootstepsofeliewiesel.org www.echocubaproject.org Dear Teachers, Inspired by the Opportunity Task Force Report, and in harmony with Leading on Opportunity, with its 2018 curriculum, The Echo Foundation brings to the table the significant power and vision of students. How many among us were surprised to learn that out of the nation’s 50 largest cities, Charlotte ranks at the bottom in terms of opportunity for upward mobility of its citizens? For some, it was new information, for others, it was no surprise – it is their reality. As teachers, students and Echo Trustees considered the Task Force Report, we found ourselves wondering about the role of young people. “Where are they in this process?” we asked. Do they understand the opportunity divide and what it means for their fellow students? Are we harnessing the power of the good minds and untethered spirits of Charlotte’s youth as we look for answers? After all, they will inherit tomorrow, what we do today. The Echo curriculum has three elements: 1.) Information & Opinions, 2.) Activities & Resources, and 3.) An Invitation to each school, teacher, classroom, club, and student to reach out to another school, another group, another individual for a serious discussion about opportunity. We did this at Echo this summer; most interestingly with members of the Young Black Leadership Alliance. We made new friends, learned a great deal that we had previously not known, and began brainstorming ideas for creating a better Charlotte – all this among students from diverse zip codes! But this isn’t enough. -

DIRECTOR of DEVELOPMENT CHARLOTTE LATIN SCHOOL Charlotte, North Carolina
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT CHARLOTTE LATIN SCHOOL Charlotte, North Carolina http://charlottelatin.org The Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with Charlotte Latin School in the search for a Director of Development. The Director of Development will work closely with the Headmaster and the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees to develop and execute short- and long-term strategic and tactical plans related to sustaining and improving the financial well-being of the organization. Charlotte Latin has established itself as one of America's elite independent schools by staying true to its mission. The School is committed to a traditional curriculum that emphasizes reading, writing, and mathematics delivered through innovative, contemporary means. Charlotte Latin values "Honor Above All,” and its culture inspires commitment and service to others. Families are grateful for the personal attention they receive, from enrollment through graduation. Loyalty to the School is pervasive, from Headmaster to faculty, staff, students, and alumni. It shows in the Parent-School Partnership; in families’ ongoing financial, emotional, and volunteer support; in teachers' appreciation for parents who are positively engaged; in students saying "Thank you" to teachers as they leave class; and in alumni who marvel at how "the place looks so different, yet feels so much the same." Student community service is not imposed as a graduation requirement at Charlotte Latin. Still, the Class of 2014 completed more than 16,000 hours of service in their four Upper School years. At Charlotte Latin, substance matters. Charlotte Latin enrolls over 1,400 students in transitional kindergarten through grade twelve, and the alumni association boasts more than 3,800 members. -
