Report of 28th APR Scout Jamboree, Scouts of China Centenary and 10th National Jamboree Scouts of China (Taiwan) September 2011 Jamboree Outlines 28th APR Scout Jamboree, Scouts of China Centenary and 10th National Jamboree was held on 11-17 July 2011 at Chengcing Lake, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the Republic of China (ROC). Kaohsiung City Government mobilized all kinds of resources to sponsor the Jamboree in many aspects, especially the finances. 1 The Jamboree was well represented by leaders from world and regional levels. World Scout Committee members Mari Nakano and Eric Khoo, attended the Opening Ceremony. Second Vice-Chairman of APR Scout Committee, Prakorb Mukura, Rajalingam Ramasamy, Vice Chairman of APR Program Sub-Committee, and many other Chief Commissioners, International Commissioners, Top Executives from Australia, Japan, Rep. of Korea, Philippines, Hong Kong, and Macau and many senior leaders of APES, ICCS, and ATAS were also invited and attended the Opening Ceremony and 3-day visiting program. 28th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree 1 11-17 July 2011 Kaohsiung, Taiwan The International Night and Closing Ceremony was held at the FongShan District Sport Gym. The gym is about 30-minute drive from the main Jamboree site. Overseas participants brought colorful and lively performances and everyone enjoyed the wonderful night. Twelve Scouts under the sponsorship program had a joint performance and each one greeted the Jamboree in his/her own language. His Excellency President Ma Ying-Jeou of the Republic of China (Taiwan), who is also the President of the Scouts of China, greeted all the Jamboree participants at the Closing Ceremony by video tape. He congratulated the Scouts of China for the success of the Jamboree and welcomed the overseas participants. These activities covered many areas including ICT, folk artistry, mountain area safety, disaster prevention, water quality monitoring. These activities were highly recommended by local Scouts and leaders. They thought the Jamboree should provide different aspects of Scouting activities to the participants other than traditional Scout crafts and skills. Modules Activities Modular Activities Scout Exhibition, Global Development Village, ICT, Half Day Tour to Southern Taiwan, Eco-Hiking, visit to the Science Museum, Folk Art Center and Fitness and Fun Games Scout Learning Activities Treasure Hunting by GPS, Bird Watching, Lie Saving, Rock Climbing, Rescue Team, Iron Scout Competition, Paint Ball Shooting, CPR and Water Quality Test Challenge Activities City Expedition by MRT, Community Service Project and Scout Carnival 28th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree 2 11-17 July 2011 Kaohsiung, Taiwan Exhibition areas offered Jamboree participants a great chance to review the 100 years of history of Scouts of China and to interact with Scouts from overseas countries where they had NSO display. Sri Lanka Scout Association also promoted the next APR Jamboree and encouraged greater participation. Activities offered at the GDV and ICT were highly appreciated by Scouts and leaders. They provided interesting activities to create awareness on environment, energy saving, aboriginal culture and practical demonstration on nuclear pollution and how to take preventive measures. A Jamboree radio station using call signs of BP100S, BV10S & BV28APR was set-up at the Jamboree site. The radio station also provided activities like Fox hunting, Morse Codes, etc. APR Centre The APR Centre is part of the activities in “Scouting History Exhibition and Global Development Village” module. The Centre was opened from 12 - 16 July 2011 from 8:30 in the morning until 5:30 in the afternoon. Exhibit Hall The exhibit featured the Golden Anniversary of Scouting in Asia-Pacific Region, APR Foundation, Ticket To Life Project and the Scouts of the World Programme. The Golden Anniversary of the Scouting featured the milestone of the 50 years of Scouting in the region. The APR Scout Foundation Tarpaulin presented the foundation objectives and worthy cause projects. The Ticket To Life Project, as the flagship project of the region is being highlighted and the tarpaulin of the Scouts of the World Programme explains also its purpose and objectives. The APR Video was shown at the centre. Activity Main activity of the centre was the APR quiz that contains five questions in three different sets. The questions were about the facts and trivia of Scouting in the Asia-Pacific Region and around World. All the answers can be found in the exhibit displays. Each group composed of 10 -20 Scouts were given 10-15 minutes to complete the quiz. Prizes were button pins and stickers. After the Scouts completed the quiz or after visiting the centre, a stamp was put on the activity passport of the Scouts as a sign that they have accomplished the activity. Bangladesh, 2. Bhutan 3. Fiji 4. India 5. Indonesia 6. Maldives 7. Mongolia 8. Nepal 9. Philippines 10. Sri Lanka Scouts from Pakistan and Papua New Guinea did not attend the Jamboree at the last minute due to some unforeseen problems faced while going to the Jamboree. Scouts of China provided the amount of USD 22,495 to sponsor these Scouts from developing countries in the region to attend the Jamboree. The amount was transmitted to APR Office which co-coordinated the sponsorship program to these countries. Scouts of China also arranged the visa on arrival for their easy travel to Taiwan. On 13 July 2011, a simple meeting of the sponsored Scouts was held together with the seven Scouts from Vietnam who were also sponsored by Bill Philips.
