Membership Fees: For all members 18 years or more there is a joining fee of $15.00 After that the Tablelands Bushwalking Club offers:  Ordinary membership (individual) – where the appropriate joining fee has been paid, including voting rights if aged 18 or more - $25.00.  Family membership – where the appropriate joining fee has been paid, membership of a family unit covering the parent/s and dependent children and students under the age of 18, with voting rights limited to the parent/s of the family unit - $50.00

Trip membership (visitor): membership of an individual only for the duration of a single trip, excluding any voting rights - $5.00

Standard Requirements: Boots, high gaiters, sock protectors, hat, sun block, morning and afternoon tea and lunch, at least 2 litres of water, whistle, personal first aid kit. Standard requirements apply to all the walks.

Name Tags: These are issued when you join the club. Please attach them to your pack or carry them with you so that you can be identified as a club member.

Departure Times: The times given in the program are departure times. Please ensure that you are at the meeting place at least 10 minutes prior to leaving time to sign in, car pool etc.

Members: Members must sign the Trip Sheet to meet insurance requirements. Members are required to take reasonable care to avoid activities that expose the Club to unreasonable risk of loss or risk of liability, and avoid exposing any person, including other participants in an activity, to unreasonable risk of injury or risk of loss. Members are to carry first aid items and safety equipment as prescribed by the Club. Members are responsible for determining if they are capable of doing an activity, and are responsible for their own safety and wellbeing, based on personal judgement and their own level of risk acceptance. Before any activity starts, members are to notify the activity leader of any medical condition or other condition that could impact on their ability to safely complete the activity.

Non-Members: Non-members are asked to sign an Acknowledgement of Risks and Obligations form before setting out on a club activity to ensure that the activity is within their capabilities, they have food, water and the necessary equipment appropriate for the activity.

Leaders: Activity leaders are to determine the grading (a guide to the degree of technical difficulty and the level of fitness required) applied to a particular activity. Leaders are to have authority to reject nominees for an activity, and cancel or vary the activity. The leader has the right to refuse a walker he/she thinks does not meet the club’s requirements.

Walkers: Consider offering to help with fuel costs if you are accepting a lift to or from a walk.

If a Walking Trip is Delayed – What Your Emergency Contact Needs to Know: Occasionally trips are delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. Before leaving on a Tablelands Bushwalking Club (TBC) outing you should tell your emergency contact (family member or friend) where you are going and give them a copy of the phone numbers of the Committee Members as members of the Management Committee will be the Contact Officers.

Contact should be with any member of the Tablelands Bushwalking Club Management Committee. The phone numbers of the committee members are found at the beginning of the Walks Program or the Newsletter. Move down the list until you find someone at home.

If there were a situation that required a search or rescue, members of the Committee would liaise with experienced walkers within TBC and with the Police and SES. They will also hold membership details for all TBC members, including the name of a family member or friend to contact in case of delay or emergency. 1

July Wednesday 2nd – Watsonville Hills Easy walk mainly along old mining tracks. Some uphill at start. Open country with old mines. Will take about 5 hours with a distance of approximately 6km. Depart Old Post Office Gallery, Atherton 8.00am. Contact Travis Teske 4056 1761.

July Sunday 6th – Mt Empress. Herberton Easy to moderate walk mainly along power line road and dirt road. 7 km. Mt Empress is 1152 m high. Depart Old Post Office Gallery, Atherton 8.15 am Contact Travis Teske 4056 1761.

July Wednesday 16th – to Copperlode Dam and back. May be too cool for a swim at Crystal Creek. A moderate short walk (about 8km) along zigzag Ergon track which climbs up to meet the Lake Morris Road. Should be back mid-afternoon. Assemble at Crystal Cascades car park (via Redlynch). Depart 8.30 am. Contact Marilyn Czarnecki on 0409 066 076.

July Sunday 20th – Innesfree Easy day of swimming and walking at Danny Gibson’s place, RN 569 Hitchconole Road, Tarzali. Depart Old Post Office Gallery, Atherton 8.00 am or Tarzali parking area, opposite the shops at 8.30 am Contact Wendy Phillips 4095 4857

July Wednesday 30th – Gallo’s to and return - Bike Ride Moderate Ride of approx. 40km along quiet bitumen roads from Gallo’s to Malanda via East Barron Road, Stonehouse Road with a short stop at the Bloomfield Swamp viewing area. Morning Tea at Malanda Falls with an opportunity to swim and enjoy a coffee at the Tree Kangaroo Café. Return to Gallo’s via Peramon Road, Ball Road and Fig Tree Road. There are some uphill sections on this ride. Inexperienced riders may wish to finish the ride at Malanda and may wish to organise a car shuffle. Depart Gallo’s (Park in East Barron Road) at 8.00 am. July Wednesday 30th - High Ways and Byways of Malanda Easy walk for the non-bike riders of approx. 10 kilometres along back roads and lanes around Malanda. Depart 8:00 am at 21 Heale Street, Malanda (corner of Heale and Emerson). Views to lush pastures and surrounding hills. Mostly flat but with two small undulations on Glen Allyn road. August Sunday 3rd – AGM Lake Tinaroo At the double BBQ’s near the pontoon, Tinaroo. Meeting starts at 9.30. Brunch at 10.30. The club will provide sausages and steak but asks members to please bring either a salad or dessert to share. Members may like to bring swimmers, canoes etc. Partners welcome to join us for the day but we need a rough idea of numbers to purchase the meat. It may pay to bring a chair, plates and cutlery. August Wednesday 13th – Ella Bay Easy walk through open paddocks dotted with literally hundreds of wallabies (private land) plus walk along beach. Depart 34 Elizabeth Street Flying Fish Point at 8.30 am. Contact Tanya Quirk 4061 9668.

August Sunday 17th – Moderate walk to Stoney Creek Falls from Speewah. Walk through National Park on tracks to Toby’s Corner, across to the falls for a swim and then out again. Mostly downhill. Depart corner Kennedy Highway and Speewah Road 8.00 am. Contact Wendy Phillips 4095 4857

August Wednesday 20th – Lunchtime Rocks, Bartle Frere For this walk we are tackling part of the Bartle Frere track from the Tablelands' side. Initially 20 minutes of easy walking to the Bobbin Bobbin Falls turnoff before approximately 3 hours of ascent. This is a hard grade, due to unrelenting steep pinches. Track all the way. Depart Lamins Hill at 7.30 am for an 8 am start at the beginning of the track. Weather conditions need to be excellent for this walk to take place. Contact Patricia Veivers 4095 4642

August Saturday 23rd – - Night Walk A walk around Lake Eacham to celebrate 25 years since the club was started in August 1989. Meet at 5.30 pm with finger food and drinks to share plus a torch or headlight. After indulging, a walk around Lake Eacham. August Sunday 24th – Bike Ride Depart Kairi Hotel 9.00am Easy – One hour bike ride around farm roads with Sheila Experienced riders – Two hour bike ride around farms with Ernie Morning tea at children’s playground across from the pub then another half hour bike ride. Contact Ernie Verity 4096 2327

August Wednesday 27th – Robson’s Track/Lake Newell Moderate to Hard walk. Follow the historic track to the Tableland up a steep spur first explored by 19th century Scottish settler James Robson. Initially the track follows dry forest and weaves through large boulders giving way to rainforest near the top. This steep climb to morning tea sees us at the old Hang Glider launching pad (Gillies Lookout) and then on to lunch at the fascinating Lake Newell. August Sunday 31st – Stannery Hills towards Rocky Bluff An easy to moderate walk along tracks and roads following the tram line every now and then from Stannery Hills to Rocky Bluff. Approximately 14 km return. Depart Old Post Office Gallery, Atherton 8.00 am. Contact Travis Teske 4056 1761.

September Saturday & Sunday 6th & 7th – Petford Work and Walk Gather at Bill's Hut for some work on Saturday to help stabilise a causeway. Short walk on Sunday if you want or sit under a tree. Bring some meat to throw on the Barbie and some salad to share. Bill's Hut is about 4 km through Petford. The turn off is on right just after Oakey Creek Sign. Look for two black and white poles, turn right and follow the dirt road. After a while veer to the left and it’s about another 3km to Bill’s Hut. Bring a chair. Contact Travis Teske 4056 1761

September Wednesday 10th – Nandroya Falls Easy to moderate walk along a path on an approximate 7 km circuit. Chance for a swim at Silver Falls and Nandroya Falls. Depart Henrietta Falls car park at 8.30 am. Contact Denise McKenna 4064 5192.

September Saturday 13th – - Cruise Gather at Lake Barrine at 3.30 pm for a 4.00 pm departure on the boat. Cruise around the lake. Finger food and a punch supplied. Bring own drinks (alcoholic or otherwise). Numbers must be received by 31st August. Important - Please phone Sally or contact [email protected]

September Sunday 14th – Huntsbrook Creek Moderate to Hard walk. Explore the Mulgrave Valley and Huntsbrook Creek on the lower side of the Gilles Highway. Depart 8.00 am Robson Track for a short walk down the highway to the start of the walk. Follow old cattle pads and bike tracks across the valley to Hunstbrook for a swim and shade. Steep climb through long grass and around boulders back to the highway and cars. Contact Sally McPhee 4096 6026

September Wednesday 17th – Granite Creek Moderate to hard walk up Granite Creek past Roy Willet’s house to a set of waterfalls (swim possibility) then south along the range and end up at Cypress waterhole (another swim) and back along the creek towards the Bluff and up on the Eastern Hills behind Roy's place and back to the vehicles. September Saturday 20th to 22nd or 23rd - Car camp Hopevale area walks. Gather at Elim (coloured sands) at Eddies camp site. Cost $10 per night per person cash only. Toilet, shower and water available, spacious area for camper trailers and vans. Beautiful views. A selection of walks around this area depends on the permission from traditional owners to do Guuta Hill walk and sandy creek circuit. Directions to Elim: Drive to Hopevale some dirt road involved, go (R) at 1st. roundabout near church, (L) at 2nd roundabout then straight through next roundabout over a one way bridge up hill and veer to (R) continue on this main road you will come to an intersection approx. 14.5km from Hopevale take (L) road (straight ahead) small white sign Elim coloured sands continue on for approx. 10.5km till get to divide in road see sign QG marine and croc warning sign turn (R) Eddies camp on left hand side, sign posted. Walks - (Proposed- subject to change) Car-pooling necessary from Elim to access other walks. 4WD or All Wheel Drives will be required. Sat 20th (pm) Elim Beach. Easy. Elim coloured sands beach walk and a climb up on sands. Sun 21st - Guuta Hill. Moderate. Approx. 10km return. Very steep ascent & descent on sand dune. Good sun protection necessary- sunglasses etc (standard requirements). Mon 22nd – Sandy Creek Falls return via Bridle Veil Falls. Moderate – Hard, Approx. 10km return. Some rock hopping and creek crossings. Short steep ascents and descents. Some stinger tree and wait-a- while. Tues 23rd – Alberts Beach & Knob Point. Easy. Beach walk, climb up to knob. September Sunday 28th – Black Mountain and Tinaroo Creek Moderate to Hard walk. Depart at the old Pensini’s Restaurant (near Dam Wall) at 8.00 am for short drive to the start of the Torpedo Bay walk. Several short steep climbs before we head across ridges to Black Mountain. Short steep climb to great views of the surrounding area. We descend and continue down into a valley behind Tinaroo for a refreshing swim and lunch somewhere along Tinaroo Creek. Steep climb out of the valley to the ridge below Black Mountain but most of the trip home is downhill back to Barabadeen Scout Camp. Contact Sally McPhee 4096 6026

October Wednesday 8th - Robson Creek Trees Explore the 25 hectare rainforest monitoring area at Robson Creek. A magical mystery tour will take you to the tallest and biggest that CSIRO measured of the 23,500 trees. See also the rarest and more unusual trees on the plot. This is an easy to moderate walk, which has plenty of obstacles and many ups and downs throughout the breakaway country (ups to 40m climb only!!!) Bring snippers for armoured obstacles and Rid for leeches!!! Meet at wall for carpooling at the information booth for 8.30am blast off, which is the beginning of Danbulla Forest Drive (so drive over the channel and over the Barron past Pensinis). If coming from Gordonvale, take the Tinaroo entrance before Lake Barrine and meet at the Robson Creek Bridge (let Andrew know if doing this). Contact Andrew Ford 4095 4728
