Getting to Know You, New York GETTING TO KNOW JULY 2015 YOU, NEW YORK New York is a great place to live, full of arts, culture, beautiful towns and festivals. Numerous charitable organizations also give back to the local community, with programs providing food, shelter, medical assistance and more. This month, WLIW profiles some of these great places and organizations in the metropolitan area. The New York Emmy Award-winning program Best Places to Live chronicles life in Port Washington/Manhasset (Tuesday, July 21 at 7:30pm), two towns on the northwestern shore of Long Island that cater to families, boating enthusiasts and nature lovers. Hosted by Cristina Cuomo, editor-in-chief of Manhattan and Beach magazines, this episode takes a look at the interesting communities, gorgeous homes and special annual events “HarborFest” and “SOUPer Bowl.” The annual HarborFest and Craft Fair attracts over 12,000 visitors and offers a unique setting for food, games, entertainment, music, various vendors and handmade items. The SOUPer Bowl competition among local restaurants raises money for the town’s Twin Pines Consumers Food Pantry and funds other local projects. Faces of Philanthropy highlights various forms of altruism throughout the tri-state area. The newest episode focuses on Hunger (Tuesday, July 28 at 7:30pm) and the many ways New York- based organizations are combatting it. The Food Bank for NYC provides groceries for needy families and individuals and City Harvest rescues food from restaurants, grocery stores and other providers. God’s Love We Deliver and City Meals on Wheels create and deliver prepared dishes to the sick and elderly who cannot cook and rarely venture away from home. Celebrity chefs, such as Anthony Bourdain, Daniel Boulud and Marcus Samuelsson, are interviewed about their work with these organizations and the impact they have on the community at large. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, PLEASE “One of the most powerful productions of a Miller play I have ever seen. By the end you feel both emotionally drained and unexpectedly elated — the classic hallmark of a great production.” - The Daily Telegraph “To say visionary director Ivo van Hove’s production is the best show in the West End is like saying Stonehenge is the current best rock arrangement in Wiltshire; it almost feels silly to compare this pure, primal, colossal thing with anything else on the West End. • Britbox Stars Talk About What Tv Moved, Amused and Inspired Them
BRITBOX STARS TALK ABOUT WHAT TV MOVED, AMUSED AND INSPIRED THEM JAMES NESBITT The Cold Feet actor’s top picks on BritBox: ● Cracker ● Prime Suspect ● Boys From The Blackstuff ● Black Adder ● Fawlty Towers ● The Good Life ● The Two Ronnies ● The Young Ones “The notion of being part of a new platform that really does try and bring different genres together but all underscored by a certain quality is very exciting.” Is there anything you watched growing up that you have great memories of? I first really recall, in terms of drama, Boys From The Blackstuff. I thought it was just extraordinary. And The Monocled Mutineer. A lot of those programmes really gripped me. I also grew up watching a lot of comedy with my mum actually. Fawlty Towers was must see. I was quite young for that but I immediately understood the absurdity, the pain of it, the farce. The Two Ronnies I used to love. My mum actually looked a bit like Ronnie Corbett which was a bit odd! I also grew up watching sport and still love Match of The Day. To grow up on all those dramas and now to be part of it has been one of the great journeys to be honest. Can you tell us why you were interested in getting involved in the launch of BritBox? Television has been very, very good to me. I’ve been working for a long time now. I’m one of those people who people think is the youngest on set but I’m by far the oldest! I’ve been working since I left drama school in 1988.

HBO/BBC drama series GENTLEMAN JACK, created, written and directed by Sally Wainwright, debuts April 22 on HBO The HBO/BBC drama series GENTLEMAN JACK begins its eight-episode season MONDAY, APRIL 22 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO. Created, written and co-directed by Sally Wainwright (“Happy Valley,” “Last Tango in Halifax”), and starring BAFTA Award winner Suranne Jones (“Doctor Foster,” “Save Me”), GENTLEMAN JACK tells the story of a woman who had a passion for life and a mind for business, and bucked society’s expectations at every turn. The series will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and partners’ streaming platforms. GENTLEMAN JACK will air in the UK on BBC One this spring. Set in the complex, changing world of 1832 Halifax, West Yorkshire – the cradle of the evolving Industrial Revolution – GENTLEMAN JACK focuses on landowner Anne Lister, who is determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home, Shibden Hall, by reopening the coal mines and marrying well. The charismatic, single-minded, swashbuckling Lister – who dresses head-to-toe in black and charms her way into high society – has no intention of marrying a man. The story examines Lister’s relationships with her family, servants, tenants and industrial rivals and, most importantly, would-be wife. Based in historical fact, the real-life Anne Lister’s story was recorded in the four million words of her diaries, and the most intimate details of her life, once hidden in a secret code, have been decoded and revealed for the series.
