Apprentices discovered None. 4. League results Rosedale Open Match day 13 =========================== Mishima Zaibatsu - Grunts United 0 : 0 The Greenskins become the second team to get a point at the Iron Fist Tournament this season, with the help of the unlisted Terry Toopatch. Monkey Business - Dangermouse 17 : 0 Scorers: The SCUMM bar chef (9 goal$s), Minnie Goudsoup (51., 85., 87.), Carla (2., 19.), Elaine Marley (55., 81.), The Voodoo Priest (35.) ***--- A very easy victory for the Pirates Wannabe, who holds on well to their second place here. Lower Tadfield Apocalypse - The 5 Percent Community 10 : 0 Scorers: Mrs. Beryl Ormerod (6 goal$s), Pepper (2., 6., 83.), Petter Belsvik (27.) ***--- The Greedy Retards had half their team out with suspensions, but the Apocalypse was still lucky to win by two digits. Really New Bremen Cyberdruids - Sale Savoyards 0 : 12 Scorers: --- ***Sam (2., 6., 19., 38., 74.), Goldbury (11., 28., 62., 68.), Hilarian (49., 78.), Chancellor (43.) Sent off: Sam Touile (38.) ***--- Booked: Peter Parker ***--- The Cyberdruids were weakened by suspensions, rested their best player, and fed Trion. It should come as no surprise that the Singers thus won the match at Rosewood Cemetary, and put some extra distance to the relegation zone. Camarilla Divided - Saturday Morning FC 0 : 0 Booked: --- ***The Brain A slow match in the Mansion Cellar, with Generation X having somewhat more chances of scoring a goal. the Ancients - Call of Cthulhu 0 : 3 Scorers: --- ***Dagon (7.), Leftovers (21.), Will Hayward (67.) Penalties: - (1 missed) ***- Booked: Morosaurus ***Cthulhu, Will Hayward Nanotyrannus replaced the missing Mammoth, and the Oldtimers dominated the battle at the Archeological Site. However, the Lurking Fear had more karma to spend, and won comfortably 3-0. Rosedale Open Match day 14 =========================== The 5 Percent Community - Mishima Zaibatsu 2 : 1 Scorers: Arne Sandsto (30.), Christer George (10.) ***Anna Williams (22.) The Greedy Retards were in the 7th heaven over their gift this week, and through extraordinary efficiency, they managed to beat Mishima Zaibatsu at Straume Bedehus. Is this the end of the latter's medal aspirations? Grunts United - Monkey Business 1 : 0 Scorers: Phoreign Photo (3.) ***--- Booked: Larry Long, Trolluc Troeffel ***Ozzy Mandrill The Greenskins got a great start when Phoreign Photo scored in the third minute, and successfully rode that into a 1-0 win. Can they still hope to bring medals to Shraaaag's Memorial Stadium once again? Lower Tadfield Apocalypse - the Ancients 7 : 0 Scorers: The delivery man (46., 63.), Chalky (51., 81.), Mrs. Beryl Ormerod (23.), Agnes Nutter (20.), Petter Belsvik (9.) ***--- The Apocalypse keep steaming forward with flattering scorelines, and with their main opposition giving away points on a steady basis, they look like a good candidate to be the first club to win Rosedale Open two years running. Really New Bremen Cyberdruids - Camarilla Divided 0 : 5 Scorers: --- ***Jerry 'Informed' Time (21., 53., 58.), Sebastien 'Decisive' Gibraltar (41., 70.) Booked: Gregorio Vinchester ***--- Top against bottom with a predictable result... the Cyberdruids really need to do something drastic if they want to save their seat for next season, relegation is looming behind the refridgerator. Sale Savoyards - Dangermouse 7 : 1 Scorers: Fitzbattleaxe (2., 33., 67.), Sam (8., 32., 70.), Goldbury (21.) *** Buggles Pigeon (3.) Penalties: - (1 missed) ***- Booked: --- ***Baron Silas Greenback II, Mad Manuel The Singers feel T5PC's breath in their necks, and proceed to crush the Mouseketeers in a scramble upwards the table. Saturday Morning FC - Call of Cthulhu 1 : 0 Penalties: 1 ***- Sent off: Quickdraw McGraw (46.) ***Cthulhu (3.) Booked: --- ***Abhoth, Dagon, Yig A truly hardfought game, where the strongest team won out on a penalty in the end. Lexington League Match day 13 ============================== Gangsters United - Desassossego Blues 6 : 1 Scorers: Little Carmine (21., 40., 68.), Svarte Petter (2.), Nina Myers (58.) ***Vicente Guedes (57.) Penalties: 1 ***- The Mobsters keep promotion hopes alive with this convincing victory over the Blues. Dial Square FC - Les Gaulois 1 : 2 Scorers: --- ***Abraracourcix (16.), Ordralfabetix (67.) Penalties: 1 (1 missed) ***- Sent off: --- ***Yoshimitsu (41.) Booked: --- ***Avoranfix, Cetautomatix Two pretty even teams faced off at Plumstead Common, but since the away team wanted the points more, noone could complain except a certain Japanese ninja sent to an early shower. After an abysmal start to the season, the Gaulois have certainly picked up pace lately. the Blitzball Team - Jedi Order 0 : 1 Scorers: --- ***Mace Windu (11.) A fourpointer in the relegation struggle between the two teams coming from the top division this year. It was tight and even, but a somewhat stronger away team manages to score the match's only goal, and secure two important points in the quest for survival. World Ambassadors - Batt in Blax 8 : 3 Scorers: Rudi van Hal (22., 33., 46., 89.), Russ Bynum (1., 86.), John Milardovic (51.) ***Hamish Marshall (79.), Nathan Astle (74.) Penalties: 1 ***1 Booked: Steph Mabie ***Michael Papps The ambassadors had apparently hired in someone from the Mobsters to give Batt's keeper shoes of concrete, as what should reasonably have ended 3-3, ended 8-3 when the Black Caps just kept conceding goals. This retains a little excitement as to who wins the Lexington League! Lords - First Men of Rome 6 : 15 Scorers: Skorec M. (1., 29., 82.), Pizdo Lizec (53., 77.), Tisik Reten (67.) ***Marcus Livius Drusus (10., 20., 52., 71.), Titus Flavius Vespasianus (40., 84., 88.), Marcus Tullius Cicero (30., 34., 84.), Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (4., 66.), Gaius Julius Caesar (55., 62.), Spartacus (43.) Lords tosses Trion three points, but it didn't matter in any case, as they were duly slaughtered by the Toga Boys. Dead Dino Storage - Sleep Wanderers 4 : 1 Scorers: Popol Ace (2., 27.), Mean Middlefielder (48.) ***Despair (19.) Penalties: 1 (2 missed) ***- Booked: --- ***Thessaly An interesting midtable game that could have gone either way - so the Night Terrors were a little stronger, and DDS significantly luckier, and it thus ends with a home win at Dark Side of the Moon. Lexington League Match day 14 ============================== Jedi Order - Gangsters United 2 : 7 Scorers: Mace Windu (22., 79.) ***Little Carmine (12., 35., 83.), Tony Blundetto (20., 47.), Dr. Evil (39.) Penalties: - ***1 Booked: --- ***B-gjengen, Tony Blundetto The Jedis had already claimed their two points for the weekend, and didn't come close against the Mobsters. Desassossego Blues - Dial Square FC 4 : 1 Scorers: Fernando Pessoa (10., 80.), Vicente Guedes (36.), Alberto Caeiro (25.) ***Vieira (39.) Sent off: --- ***Fabregas (3.) Booked: Raphael Baldaya, Ricardo Reis ***--- A strategical victory for the Blues, which was increased in size when Fabregas tossed pizza at the referee already in the third minute. the Blitzball Team - Dead Dino Storage 1 : 0 Penalties: 1 ***- Booked: --- ***OSI, The Tangent, Transatlantic *yawn*... the match was decided on a penalty... and if I'm not mistaken, it must have been given for passive play! World Ambassadors - Lords 13 : 1 Scorers: John Milardovic (6 goal$s), Rudi van Hal (17., 24., 27., 51., 52.), Newton

In those days the competition comprised 40 8 ball overs, and included a requirement for 15 overs of spin to be bowled. The teams that day comprised some great names of NZ Cricket including Richard, Dale and Barry Hadlee, Cran Bull, Wayne Burtt, and Alan Hounsell for HSOB and Rodney Redmond, John Kasper, Graham Vivian, Arch Taylor and Dave Anderson for Cornwall, all of whom were current or former, first class or NZ reps.

  • Daniel Vettori (New Zealand 1996 – 2012)
Daniel Vettori (New Zealand 1996 – 2012) Daniel Vettori is the youngest man to play Test cricket for New Zealand, and has gone on to play 113 Tests, becoming the most capped Kiwi. Quickly he became a regular in the Test team as his country’s leading spinner. However, Vettori grew frustrated with his batting, feeling that poor performances were letting down the team. After all, he had batted up the order in his other representative sides, and still considered himself a guy who could bat. In 2003 Daniel devoted time to his batting. “I spoke long and hard with Stephen Fleming and New Zealand Cricket’s technical advisor Ashley Ross about tightening up. Effectively, I modelled myself on Flem because he’d just overhauled his technique and was proving very successful. We were both tall left-handers … I don’t think we could ever be mistaken for each other … but there were elements that I definitely tried to copy from him … playing as late as possible and using the raised back lift but not with cocked wrists … I think the biggest adjustment was a mental one in that I simply wanted to bat for long periods. I didn’t want to throw my wicket away and I wanted to play straight. I worked hard in the nets and I played straight in match situations.” The work paid off. Daniel’s batting improved so much that he went on to become only the 8th player to manage the double of 3000 Test runs and 300 wickets (the other seven being Shane Warne, Kapil Dev, Richard Hadlee, Shaun Pollock, Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Chaminda Vaas).

  • Update No. 207 – Locked Down – Weekend Wasted
Parnell Cricket Club Incorporated - Established 1858 Update No. 207 – Locked Down – Weekend Wasted Very sad – Weekend playing days are precious, scarce pleasure time for sport and to lose this whole weekend was just tragic – from the 5year olds on Friday evening, all Junior Grades, all Adult Grades – Club and Schools cancelled. Considerable sympathy for Auckland Cricket – they had no choice but to cancel – Government dictate. And NZ Cricket, too, at least saved the Australian Tour by moving T20Is to Wellington Saturday morning, 10.00 am – the view from my kitchen. Instead of heading to Shore Road to see grandson play in the morning and then on to see the Prems vs Grafton United, Jenny and I cleaned the oven ……… Let’s make up for it on 14 March Jeff Crowe Cup Final Limited Overs (50) Championship Parnell vs Howick Pakuranga At Shore Road Reserve from 11 am In recent years Parnell has won the Cup 3 times 2009/10, 2012/13 and 2018/19 Please come and support your Team and see some outstanding cricket!
