It is hypothesized that anchorpersons have become an identity for TV news channel and none of the TV channel could survive without them. Moreover, TV channels having famous anchorpersons are more popular in the viewers than other entrants. Stratified random sampling technique is used to select the target sample. Gender and level of education is used as strata for selection of appropriate sample. Closed ended questionnaires are used to inquire the public’s perception about the importance of anchorpersons for TV news channels. The empirical indicator of the study confirmed that anchorpersons have become a symbol of identity for their respective TV news channel. They have become indispensible for TV news channels. They liked those news channels more which have famous anchorpersons than the other news channels. Keywords: Anchorpersons; TV news channels; Public’s perception; that they can prioritize some issues in audience perception by focusing Symbol of Identity; Indispensible on these issues. They can manipulate the public perception regarding important issues by giving undue hype and creating sensationalism Introduction in the audiences.

Media house owners, editors, directors news, freelancers, media analysts, media development practitioners, watchdog bodies, media workers, press club officials, journalist associations, office bearers, reporters, bureau chiefs, stringers for foreign media, mainstream media, regional media and trade magazine representatives were approached. All the quotes carried in the reports by the above mentioned media persons were especially given by them for this report, and they also pointed me to articles written by them or programmes aired by them on the topic to get additional insights. Similarly, except for the image of the WHO spokesperson, Prime Minister Pakitan, Imran Khan, and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah’s images which have been taken from publicly available websites, permissions were sought and received for all other images. I am extremely grateful to all of them for taking time out of their very pressing engagements and responding, especially to those who were afflicted by the Covid-19 or were performing the role of primary care-givers to their family members who were suffering from it.
