Jack Murray Singer/songwriter Jack Murray, from Sevier- ville, TN, (Dolly Parton’s hometown as well…) now living in Barto, PA was a founding member of country-rock band Golden Rocket A in the late 70s, which featured a unique mix of folk, blues, rock & roll and traditional country music. He’s played in many other musical combinations including The Rockin’ Eddies, while successfully writing for Nashville recording artists (Alabama, Ronnie Sessions, Peter Isaacson, among others) -providing his various country and rock bands with strong and often witty original material. As a charter member of Philadelphia’s own pre-punk Black B Flag and other bands in the mid 1970’s, Jack performed in clubs all over the city, including the original Electric Factory. After an extended hiatus, a recent burst of writing has unexpectedly launched him back into the world of music, having become a popular headlining act as a singer/songwriter at many venues in the Philadelphia area, including Bethlehem’s legendary Godfrey Daniels and MusikFest, Landhaven in Hus Church and others. He continues to be a popular opening act at the Sellersville Theater, having opened shows for Chris Smither, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jonathan Edwards, Commander Cody Band, Mike Farris and many others. Among other radio interviews and performances, he was a featured solo guest on Gene C Shay’s "The Folk Show" on Philadelphia’s WXPN in 2008 -and again in 2009 as Jack Murray & The Midnight Creeps. Jack has had the honor of being invited to perform in Nashville Writers In The Round concerts by some of Nashville’s nest, including SKB’s Craig Bickhardt, Nashville Songwriter Hall of Famer -Thom Schuyler, Poco’s Jack Sundrud and Grammy winner, Don Henry.

SPONSORS He’s an artist who was formerly signed with Bob Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman, had development deals with Atlantic records’ Ahmet Ertegun, had songs recorded by Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, BB King, Poco, Art Garfunkel, Janis Ian, Martina Mcbride, The Judds, Alison Krauss & Kathy Mattea. Placed two songs in the Robert Duvall Academy Award winning film “Tender Mercies,” and shared a stage with Bruce Springsteen, Stephen Stills & Harry Chapin and now….This singer/songwriter, Craig Bickhardt, steps out from the musical shadows to sing his own songs. Fortunately, with an artist like Frank Sinatra or an Elvis Presley the majority of listeners knew they didn't write their own material so we understood that someone behind those incredible songs trusted these artists to bring their material to life. In the case of Sinatra and Presley, they often hit the bulls-eye for those songwriters – songwriters I may add who did not sing or perform themselves. Their artistry was in their pen, guitar, or piano. But there are also artists -- like Craig -- who did labor at Easily create high-quality PDFs from your web pages - get a business license! writing songs alone or with someone and they do perform and record their own songs.

  • Concerts in Your Home
Would you let a hit songwriter into your house? I’m the last guy to worship hit songs, or writers just because they’ve had hits. However, sometimes a hit song IS a great song, and it would be bad form to show a songwriter the door just because he’s had some major successes. In fact, we have a bunch of hit songwriters at ConcertsInYourHome, but this one is a real stand-out. – fran His songwriting credits read like a Who’s Who of the music industry. Ray Charles, B. B. King, Johnny Cash, The Judds, Trisha Yearwood, Allison Krauss, Anne Murray, Art Garfunkel, Poco, David Wilcox, Kathy Mattea, Willie Nelson, Van Zant, Baillie And The Boys, Vince Gill, and Martina McBride are just some of the many luminaries who have recorded songs written or co-written by Craig Bickhardt. A discography like that would be the envy of most songwriters, but the covers are only part of the story. “I never set out to write hits for other artists,” Bickhardt says. “But I always got a kick out of hearing what happened to the songs in ‘translation’.” “Craig Bickhardt has spent a lifetime crafting intelligently lean, but meaningful songs… meticulously shaped, with a keen literary and narrative approach. Most crucially; he is a communicator, capable of touching the heart of his listeners.” - John Brindle, Maverick Magazine (UK) His first break as an artist came when he was asked to write and sing the closing theme for Robert Duvall’s Academy Award winning movie TENDER MERCIES. The success of that film led to a move to Nashville, where Craig hooked up with fellow songwriters Thom Schuyler, Fred Knobloch and Don Schlitz to establish THE WRITERS IN THE ROUND.

  • CRAIG BICKHARDT Has Written Songs That Have Been Recorded By
Idlewheel A two-lane highway can unfold like a book of stories as the miles flash by. Idlewheel’s music has the same sense of discovery to it – carried along by easy-flowing rhythms are flashes of personal revelation and homespun irony, speeding past you like an oddly familiar (or familiarly odd) small town. Craig Bickhardt and Jack Sundrud do it all with a wry nonchalance that belies their uncommon craftsmanship. These guys know the high road of country-rock better than most. Their credits are solid and sterling. Bickhardt was a member of renowned Nashville group SKB that enjoyed country radio success with hits that included Bickhardt and Schuyler’s “This Old House”. He has also penned songs for Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Martina McBride, and B. B. King, and wrote and sang the closing theme for Robert Duvall’s Academy Award winning film TENDER MERCIES. Sundrud cracked the charts with Great Plains (Sony Records) and now plays bass in the pioneering country- rock group Poco, whose 40-year roster reads like a who’s-who in the genre. His songs have been recorded by Kenny Rogers, The Judds, The Persuasions and others. Together Craig and Jack wrote Ty Herndon’s mega hit “It Must Be Love”. But really, Idlewheel isn’t a spin-off of any of these projects. It’s more the product of afternoons spent swapping stories and woodshedding songs, of testing each other’s creative limits in defiance of Nashville’s prevailing conservatism. The creative sparks that flew between Craig and Jack during their writing sessions glow brightly on their debut self-titled CD.

  • Live in Studio Teaming of Singer-Songwriter Craig Bickhardt
ALBUM REVIEW Live In Studio Teaming of Singer-Songwriter Craig Bickhardt & Poco Bassist Jack Sundrud Idlewheel - Live at Morning Star BY JOHN APICE MARCH 14, 2016 (Log In or Sign Up to Follow Contributor) Several years ago, one of my favorite duos was Lowen and Navarro. Their “Cry,” from their album “Pendulum,” was a stunning track. With its chiming guitars, steady rolling drums and percussion, an infectious melody with stinging Everly Brothers’ influenced vocals this duo was a breath of fresh air. I miss them because tragically Eric Lowen passed away from complications of ALS at 60 in 2012 -- the duo was no more and for me it left an appreciation hole. What I find here with Idlewheel – Jack Sundrud and Craig Bickhardt has the same potent musical blood running through their veins. They don’t sound like Lowen and Navarro in an imitation sense, they sound like what Lowen and Navarro may have been today had they not been interrupted by fate. What is also surprising and intense is how clear this recording is. Performed before a small live audience at MorningStar Studios in PA. The music, lyrics and showmanship of these two men is uplifting and penetrating and solidly in the faith of Lowen and Navarro. If you’re looking for protest folk this may not been your forte. If you are looking for well-written songs, harmonies, wonderful musicianship and songs with drama that are reflective, biting and versatile – this may be an ideal collection. Decades ago some other duos and bands had generous amounts of proficiency with this genre: Brewer and Shipley, Loggins and Messina, Seals and Crofts, Sea Train, Richard and Mimi Farina, the late 60’s version of the Everly Brothers (check “Lord of The Manor,” “Milk Train,” and the incredible “I Wonder If I Care as Much.”).
