CALL FOR ENTRIES WABASH VALLEY TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Art of Architecture Exhibition

The Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation, in partnership with the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, is proud to announce a call for entries for Art of Architecture, an inaugural group exhibition of works inspired by historic architecture in our community.

Artists from north central Indiana are invited to submit digital images of two-dimensional works for consideration by members of the Wabash Valley Trust. All visual art mediums are acceptable, including painting, photography, drawing, digital, prints, and collage. The deadline to apply to this exhibition is 5:00 p.m. (EST) on September 15, 2019.

ELIGIBILITY This opportunity is open to any artist, age 18 or older.

EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION & ARTWORK GUIDELINES

The mission of the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation in Lafayette, Indiana is to promote and recognize historic preservation through restoration and visibility of the architectural heritage of our community. The Trust is a leading force in the community, championing historic preservation, which enhances the quality of life for all citizens.

As an effort to promote Greater Lafayette area’s historic architecture, the Trust is partnering with the Tippecanoe Arts Federation to produce an exhibition of artwork by regional artists entitled Art of Architecture. Artists are invited to submit images of artworks that have been created as a reaction to or inspired by the historic architecture found in our area. Artworks inspired by the following existing structures will be considered for the exhibition:

ARCHITECTURE INFORMATION SESSION FOR ARTISTS August 8, 2019, 5:30 pm at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation (638 North Street Lafayette, IN 47901)

Interested artists are invited to attend an information session presented by the Wabash Valley Trust for Historic Preservation on Thursday, August 8 at 5:30 p.m. Members from the Trust will give a brief overview of historic structures in the Greater Lafayette area and hold an informal Q&A for artists interested in participating in the exhibition.

ABOUT THE WABASH VALLEY TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION Established in Lafayette, Indiana in 1973, the Wabash Valley Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a unified effort to educate and encourage interest in the heritage and architecture in the Wabash Valley area. The Trust subscribes to preservation in the broadest sense, encompassing quality of life issues that affect the environment, urban districts, neighborhoods, and rural areas.

Just as the built environment did not evolve overnight, preservation planning takes long range vision. Not only is the Trust involved in current community issues, they work hard to influence the long range future of preservation in Lafayette, Indiana and the Wabash Valley area. The Trust have programs to educate residents on the importance of preservation, and they are building networks here in our community along with state and national leaders as they strive to preserve our quality of life.

ABOUT THE WELLS COMMUNITY CULTURAL CENTER & GALLERIES This exhibition will be held in the Northwest Gallery at the Wells Community Cultural Center, which is owned and operated by the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. Located at the heart of the Lafayette-West Lafayette Community at 638 North Street, the building serves as an anchor facility for the state-designated Tippecanoe Arts & Cultural District.

A gift from Dr. Albert Wells to the City of Lafayette in 1926, this building served for many years as the main branch of the Tippecanoe County Public Library. Presently featuring three galleries, the Wells Community Cultural Center is now a hub of art resources and opportunities for the Greater Lafayette Community. In addition to exhibition space, the Wells Building serves as multi-use cultural facility providing area artists and arts organizations with performance, rehearsal, meeting, and storage space. The purpose of the TAF Galleries is to provide opportunities for artists from north central Indiana to display their original artwork.
