THURSDAY, 3 JUNE 2021 FRANKIE ON SNOWFALL LAST CALL FOR BREEZERS AT GORESBRIDGE IN NEWMARKET By Emma Berry IN CAZOO OAKS NEWMARKET, UKCCA little later than scheduled, the European 2-year-old sales season will conclude on Thursday with the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze-up, which has returned to Newmarket for a second year owing to ongoing Covid travel restrictions. What was already a bumper catalogue for a one-day sale of more than 200 horses has been beefed up still by the inclusion of 16 wild cards that have been rerouted from other recent sales for a variety of reasons. They include horses with some pretty starry pedigrees, so be prepared for some of the major action to take place late in the day. Indeed the last three catalogued all have plenty to recommend them on paper. TUESDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021 TIZ JUST THE BEGINNING TDN KENTUCKY DERBY by Katie Ritz TOP 12 FOR JAN. 26 There were just 56 days between Tiz the Law=s (Constitution) dazzling sophomore debut in the GIII Holy Bull S. on the first day of February to his next start in the GI Florida Derby. How much could change in that time? As it turned out, just about everything. So maybe that=s why, during a dark time, this bay colt with the bright, white-blazed face was so easy to cheer for. During uncertain circumstances, the Sackatoga silks with the familiar connections brought a piece of near normalcy to the starting gate. • CRAVEN SALE a BREEZE-UP BAROMETER Its Focus on the Main Event, the May 4 Chris Mcgrath Has a Preview for the Two-Day Tattersalls Craven GI Kentucky Derby
TUESDAY, 16 APRIL 2019 THE WEEKLY WRAP: LONG MAY THEY RUN CRAVEN SALE A by Emma Berry BREEZE-UP BAROMETER Apologies for the tardy start of this weekly digest. It's certainly not a case of taking the Newmarket resident's view that the Flat only really begins today with the start of the Craven meeting, more that family matters rendered this correspondent a non-runner in the first fortnight of the season. Fortunately we have had the excellent Pat Smullen to give us his take on the racing scene, and his much-enjoyed weekly column will be back tomorrow. Even ahead of today's racing action, Newmarket's Rowley Mile has already been the scene of plenty of activity this week, with around 120 breezers having been put under the spotlight yesterday morning ahead of the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale, which starts its two-day run later today. The 2-year-old sales are not universally loved but a good reminder that such auctions can offer more than just blink-and-you'll-miss-'em juveniles was served by the admirable Stormy Antarctic (GB) (Stormy Atlantic) on Sunday. War Front colt out of Quarter Moon breezes | Emma Berry Now six, the Ed Walker-trained gelding added the G3 Kalkmann Frujahrs-Meile at Dusseldorf to his record on his 2019 by Chris McGrath debut, extending his tally to seven wins and 11 places from 26 NEWMARKET, UK--With the breeze-up calendar this year starts. 2020 HORSE RACING IRELAND AWARDS DECEMBER 15 2020 WELCOME It is a pleasure to welcome you all to the 2020 Horse Racing Ireland Awards which has a very different look to it this year. We come together to honour outstanding achievement in our industry and at the same time pay tribute to all who adapted so well to the tremendous challenges that the year presented. It came as a serious blow that the 2019/2020 National Hunt season was cut short, robbing us of terrific sporting occasions at Fairyhouse and Punchestown. We overcame a worrying delay to the racing schedule just as the 2020 Flat season was beginning and once racing resumed in early June, the resilience of this wonderful industry shone through. It is important to reflect on how everyone, particularly stable staff and those working at our 26 racecourses, adapted to the challenges that the rearranged and quite unrecognisable fixture list posed. I wish to acknowledge the tremendous dedication, effort and flexibility shown by so many. This commitment went a long way in keeping the show on the road. We also recognise and commend our owners for their continued patience. Our first priority remains the return of owners to the racecourse and we continue to work with the Association of Irish Racehorse Owners and their representative Caren Walsh on this. The indications are that 2021 will be a very different time for us all. However, the foundations of the racing and breeding industries in Ireland are strong and I am confident that both sectors will be to the fore as our economy recovers from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

SATURDAY, 23 MARCH 2019 STABLE TOUR: AIDAN DANON SMASH LOOKS TO EMULATE SIRE IN TAKAMATSUNOMIYA KINEN by Alan Carasso O=BRIEN=S HOPE FOR 2019 One year after finishing a very close third, Lord Kanaloa (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) made the 2013 G1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen the third top-level victory of his standout career. He retired as one of the best sprinters in the history of the Japanese turf and seems to have transferred his considerable ability to his offspring, including Horse of the Year Almond Aye (Jpn), who returns to action in next Saturday=s G1 Dubai Turf at Meydan. Sunday afternoon at Chukyo Racecourse, Danox Ltd.s Danon Smash (Jpn), one of five black-type winners from his sire=s first crop to the races, will try to follow in his hoofprints as the likely favourite in the 1200-metre event. Produced by a Hard Spun half-sister to one-time GI Breeders= Cup Mile hero War Chant (Danzig), Danon Smash has won three from his last four, including the Jan. 27 G3 Silk Road S., a race also won by Lord Kanaloa prior to his defeat here in 2012.
