Austin Peay State University is a comprehensive, state-assisted university with a distinguished tradition in liberal and professional education. The institution is named in honor of Austin Peay, Tennessee’s governor from 1924 until 1927, the year APSU was founded. The university is located in Clarksville, Tenn., just 45 minutes northwest of Tennessee’s capital, Nashville, on Interstate 24. One of the South’s most historic cities, Clarksville also is Tennessee’s fastest growing city and one of the 10 fastest growing cities in the United States according a 2013 U.S. Census Bureau Report. Situated on gently rolling terrain near picturesque downtown Clarksville, Austin Peay’s main campus consists of 68 buildings on 169 acres. The classical Georgian ar- chitecture of the Austin Peay campus is combined with newer buildings. This blend provides a link with the past while reflecting the academic excellence and dignity of an institution of higher learning. The newest building additions to the main campus are the Hemlock Semiconductor Building, Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, Sundquist Science Complex and the Morgan University Center, each opening for use since 2001. The Hemlock Semi- conductor Building houses the chemical engineering tech- nology (CET) associate degree program and laboratory. The $11-million Foy Center, features a rock-climbing wall and 10,000 square feet of fitness space and other amenities for the student body. The Sundquist Complex is one of the South’s premier science education facilities and represents the largest capital appropriation ever in Ten- nessee for a single classroom building. The new Morgan University Center is located in the heart of the campus and features a cybercafe, meeting rooms, a food court, coffee shop, ballroom and lounges for Austin Peay students. Austin Peay’s campus has been the site of seven educational institutions since 1806. The campus was occupied by Southwestern Presbyterian University (now Rhodes College) for 50 years until 1925 when the school moved to Memphis. Austin Peay was founded two years later as a two-year normal school to train teachers for the region. Austin Peay has grown over the years to take its place among the finest mid-sized four-year universities in the nation. Austin Peay Normal School became a four-year college in 1941-42, and univer- sity status was conferred Sept. 1, 1967. Austin Peay currently enrolls more than 10,000 students from every region of Tennessee, most of the 50 states and several foreign countries. Those students can choose from more than 50 majors in associate, bachelor’s, master’s and education specialist’s degrees with additional areas of concentration. Courses are offered in arts and sciences, business, education, engineering technology, nursing and human services. Graduate studies also are offered in several areas. In addition, numerous online courses are offered each semester. A state leader in public service, Austin Peay State University has more than 750 employees. Engaged in the most modern teaching techniques and research are nearly 280 full-time faculty members, 90 percent of whom hold the earned doctorate or appropriate ter- minal degrees in their disciplines.

#MISSIONPOSSIBLE • 11 WILL HEALY Position: Head Coach • Experience: Second Season Career Record: 0-11 • APSU Record: 0-11, Second Season • Alma Mater: Richmond, 2008

In two short years, Will Healy has brought two top recruiting classes and revitalized Austin Peay football. Healy was announced as Austin Peay State University’s 19th football coach, Dec. 20, 2015, before being introduced at a press conference two days later. Healy came to Austin Peay after serving seven seasons as an assistant coach at Chattanooga. The personable young mentor worked under head coach Russ Huesman in helping restore the former FCS power Mocs to its previous glory. After arriving in 2009, Healy was part of a staff that had the best turnaround in school history in 2009 (from 1-11 to 6-5) and only improved from that point on. The Mocs won or shared Southern Conference Championships each of the last three seasons, making FCS play-off appearances in 2014 and 2015. In fact, the Mocs finished 9-4 in 2015, including narrow losses to FCS championship finalist Jacksonville State, the FCS quarterfinal contest going into overtime. The Chattanooga native served as wide receivers coach, passing-game coordinator and recruiting coordinator. Healy’s work in the passing game helped mold Jacob Huesman into three-time Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Year. This season, with Healy serving as passing game coordinator, Huesman threw for 2,117 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for another 1,244 yards and 13 more scores. As a result, Huesman was chosen STATS FCS Second-Team All-America. Healy’s quarterback development skills appeared early in his Chattanooga tenure. As Mocs’ quarterback coach in 2009 he tutored Tennessee transfer BJ Coleman, who passed for more than 2,300 yards, 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He became a seventh-round selection of the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 draft. After moving to receivers coach in 2010, Healy had equal success. Joel Bradford became an All-American in 2010, posting 81 catches for a school-record 1,284 yards. Tommy Hudson and Clarksville native C.J. Board also earned All-SoCon honors in 2014 under Healy’s tutelage. Along the way, Healy’s worked with two passing programs ranked in the FCS Top-10 in 2010 (eighth in yards) and 2014 (sixth in passer rating). Healy’s also was responsible for helping transform Chattanooga from a successful team into a well-respected program as recruiting coordinator. With Healy taking the lead in building relationships and the program utilizing Tennesseans for nearly half its roster, Chattanooga had top-rated recruiting classes in 2012-14, including the top-ranked FCS class in 2013 and 2014. He also served as the program’s NFL liaison during his Chattanooga tenure. Healy was introduced to football at a young age. His father Rob was a star at Georgia Tech and his uncle Chip was an All- America linebacker at Vanderbilt. As a prep quarterback star at Chattanooga’s Boyd-Buchanan, Healy earned all-state twice, all-state honorable mention two other years, and was a four-time all-region selection. A Tennessee “Mr. Football” finalist as a senior, Healy holds the Chattanooga area career passing record with more than 7,700 yards. That helped him land initially at the Air Force Prep Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado before heading to Richmond (Virginia). Healy was a team captain on the Richmond’s 2008 FCS National Title team and saw action in 31 games in his col- legiate career. He played in the Spiders’ win over Montana in the 2008 FCS Championship game, which for many years was played at Chattanooga’s Finley Stadium. Healy received his bachelor’s degree from Richmond in Rhetoric and Communication Studies in December 2008, He liter- ally went from the playing field to coaching, joining Huesman at Chattanooga as a young assistant in 2009 at Chattanooga.. Healy married the former Emily Broyles in July, 2012. The couple has one son, Eli, age 2.

12 • 2017 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM ASSISTANT COACHES MARCUS WEST Position: Assistant Head Coach • Responsibilities: Co-Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Line Experience: First Season • Alma Mater: Memphis, 2005

Marcus West elected to follow Will Healy from Chattanooga to Clarksville and took over as the Governors assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach in 2016. Previously, West spent seven seasons with the Mocs, coaching the defensive line. West’s time in Chattanooga coincided with Chattanooga’s rise from Southern Conference also- ran to perennial conference champion. West’s defensive line was key to that rise, as he churned out consistently successful pass-rushers and accrued more than 30 sacks as a unit in three of West’s seven seasons—a feat accomplished just one time since 1985, prior to West’s arrival. During his time in Chattanooga, West tutored two Southern Conference Defensive Players of the Year—Josh Beard (2009) and Davis Tull (2012-14)—and five All-Americans, in addition to 14 All-SoCon selections. Beard led the FCS with 12 sacks in 2009, with Tull breaking his school record with 12.5 as a sophomore in 2012 and eventually graduating with a school-record 37.0 sacks. Tull (a fifth round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the ) and Derrick Lott (undrafted free agent, signed by the Tennessee Titans and currently with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) are former proteges of West’s who went on to play professionally. Prior to his time at Chattanooga, West was the defensive line coach at Wartburg College in 2008, where he helped the Knights to a 10-3 record, a conference championship and a spot in the Division III quarterfinals. West joined the Wartburg coaching staff following a playing career that spanned three professional leagues. His career included one-season stints with the (NFL), Amsterdam Admirals (NFL Europe) and Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL). During his collegiate career, West was a stand-out University of Memphis defensive lineman, earning All-Conference USA honors in 2004 and 2005. He was a team captain his senior season and earned the program’s Defensive Player of the Year award after a 2005 campaign that saw him earn honorable mention All-America honors. He participated in three bowl games—2003 New Orleans, 2004 GMAC and 2005 Motor City—as a player, winning the contests against North Texas (2003) and Akron (2005). West married former UTC and current N.C. State women’s basketball Associate Head Coach Nikki West in June 2011.

#MISSIONPOSSIBLE • 13 ASSISTANT COACHES WESLEY SATTERFIELD Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Experience: Second Season • Alma Mater: Sewanee, 2007

In just one season, Wesley Satterfield has made quite the impact at Austin Peay. Last year, his offense surpassed 4,000 yards for just the second time in program history. Under his tutelage, the Govs became the second-most improved offense in all of FCS, improving their offensive totals by 119.6 yards per game. The 2,014 rushing yards were the program’s most since the 2002 season, with the 183.1 rushing yards per game were the most since the 1996 season. Satterfield comes to Austin Peay after a two-year stint at Southeastern Louisiana, where he worked with the Lions quarterbacks. In 2014, Bryan Bennett earned Southland Conference Of- fensive Player of the Year honors under Satterfield’s tutelage, throwing for 2,357 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 669 yards and 15 scores. Prior to his time in Hammond, Satterfield spent two years in Chattanooga, working first with the tight ends and then with the running backs during the same time Healy was overseeing the Mocs’ quarterbacks. In 2012, Faysal Shafaat earned third- team All-American honors with Satterfield as his positional coach. Satterfield got his start as a quality control assistant and graduate assistant at North Carolina (2007-09), working with receivers and quarterbacks. Satterfield was on Butch Davis’ staff during an era when the Tar Heels played in back-to-back Meineke Car Care Bowls (2008-09). Following his stay in Chapel Hill, Satterfield earned his master’s degree in education administration from Ohio State, serv- ing two seasons on the Buckeye coaching staff under Jim Tressell and Luke Fickell. He aided the offensive staff and assisted with special teams in Columbus. A four-year starter at quarterback during his playing days at Sewanee, he was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year as a junior, setting the conference record with 11 rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. He also was the kicker and punter for the Tigers before graduating in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in American History. A third-generation coach, Satterfield was an all-state quarterback and kicker at Trousdale County High, where his father, Tennessee Sports Hall of Famer Clint Satterfield, and previously his grandfather served as head football coach. 14 • 2017 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM ASSISTANT COACHES BRANDON COOPER Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Co-Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs Experience: First Season • Alma Mater: UT Martin, 2007

After a season with Murray State, Brandon Cooper joins Austin Peay State University’s staff as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Cooper is a well-known commodity around the Ohio Valley Conference—his previous stints around the conference include Murray State, Jacksonville State (2011-12) and UT Martin, where he played (2003-06) and got his coaching start (2008-10). It was in the Southern Conference with Chattanooga that Cooper and Governors head coach Will Healy crossed paths. Cooper’s two-year stint with the Mocs began in 2013, with the Mocs’ defense leading the Southern Conference in fewest yards allowed per game (329), passing yards allowed per game (152) and points allowed per game (20.5). The next season, Cooper and the Mocs defense ranked in the FCS top-10 in multiple categories, including first down defense (6th, 15.7 per game), total defense (8th, 277.9), pass defense (9th, 153.2) and scoring defense (12th, 19.7). Cooper was also able to mentor Tommy Hudson, the Mocs All-American punt returner, in 2014. During his stay at Jacksonville State, Cooper coached the Gamecocks cornerbacks and dime defensive backs. The Game- cocks won the 2011 OVC title, leading the league with 16 interceptions during conference play. A.J. Davis was an All-OVC corner for JSU that season and went on to spend time with the New Orleans Saints. In 2012, he guided cornerback Jermaine Hough to Freshman All-American recognition and a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team. Cooper’s tenure as a coach at UT Martin saw the Skyhawks lead the OVC in total defense in 2010, allowing 299.3 yards per game, and the Skyhawks were also the conference leaders in total defense, passing defense, passing-efficiency defense and third-down defense. Cooper assisted with the linebackers and cornerbacks during his time in Martin, with Josh Bey earn- ing All-American honors in 2009. Cooper was a four-year letterman for the Skyhawks from 2003-06 and helped lead UT Martin to its first OVC Champion- ship as a senior in 2006. The Cincinnati, Ohio native earned his Bachelor’s degree in health and human performance from UT Martin in 2007. Cooper was married in May 2015 to his wife, Natasha.

#MISSIONPOSSIBLE • 15 ASSISTANT COACHES JOSHUA EARGLE Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Running Game Coordinator/Offensive Line & Tight Ends Experience: 1st Season • Alma Mater: Memphis, 2001

Joshua Eargle will serve as Austin Peay’s offensive line coach and running game coordinator. Eargle comes to Austin Peay from East Texas Baptist, where in his three seasons as head coach, he turned around a program that won three games in his first season to a share of the conference title in 2015. The 2015 American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year, Eargle has experience at the FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III levels of collegiate coaching. Over that time, he has served on both sides of the ball, including as offensive coordinator (Monticello State, 2010) and defensive coordinator (Southeastern Oklahoma State, 2012). Despite being a man who has largely coached offense during his career, Eargle’s Southeastern Oklahoma State defense ranked 29th nationally among 156 Division II pro- grams, and was 11th in pass defense. At ETBU, Eargle’s ascent saw him coach 23 All-ASC first- and second-team players, including six Division III All-Americans— quarterback Josh Warbington and running back Kendall Roberson posted back-to-back All-American campaigns in 2014-15. In total, ETBU established 42 individual or team season records during Eargle’s three seasons at the helm. Eargle gained his coaching start in 2003 as a graduate assistant at Southern Miss, spending two years as a GA and an- other season with the program in 2006—the 2003 Golden Eagle squad captured a Conference USA championship with an 8-0 league record, and the 2006 team won the East Division at 6-2. Eargle also coached LSU’s offensive line in 2009, and his four FBS season’s yielded four bowl trips—2003 Liberty Bowl, 2004 New Orleans Bowl, 2007 GMAC Bowl and 2010 Capital One Bowl. Austin Peay will be Eargle’s second FCS level stop—he coached the offensive line at Nicholls State in 2007-08. His other coaching homes have included Ouachita Baptist (2005) and Hallsville High School (2011). At the collegiate level, Eargle has had at least one player at each coaching stop earn an all-conference honor. A 2001 Memphis graduate, Eargle won the inaugural Top Tiger Award, presented by Tommy West to the player who battled back from adversity or overcame difficult circumstances to return to the field. He earned his Master’s in Sports Administration from Southern Miss in 2004. He and his wife Kristen have two daughters.

16 • 2017 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM ASSISTANT COACHES MAXWELL THURMOND Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Special Teams Coordinator/Linebackers Experience: First Season • Alma Mater: Jacksonville State, 2001

Max Thurmond joins the Austin Peay State University football coaching staff under first-year head coach Will Healy as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach. Late of West Alabama, Thurmond spent the past two seasons in a similar position for the Tigers. During his stint in Livingston, Thurmond saw three players earn All-Gulf South Conference first-team honors and three earned second-team distinction. Under Thurmond’s tutelage, return specialist Tyreek Hill (AFCA, D2Football.com) and linebackers Quentin Harton and Brandon Keel (USA College Football) earned All-American recognition in 2015. Prior to his time with the Tigers, Thurmond coached for 11 seasons at Jacksonville State (2001-12), beginning as a student assistant and spent much of his tenure working with the outside linebackers, cornerbacks and punt return team before ending his JSU career as wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator. Thurmond’s tenure in Jacksonville saw the Gamecocks transition to the Ohio Valley Conference from the Southland Con- ference. Thurmond was a staffer for the 2003 and 2004 Gamecock squads that led the OVC in rushing defense, including the 2004 squad that was 10th in the nation, and led the league in turnover margin for three consecutive seasons. Thurmond was on staff for three OVC Championships (2003-04, 2011) and playoff appearances in 2003-04 and 2010. With Thurmond as outside linebackers coach in 2009, the Gamecocks led the OVC scoring defense, total defense, pass de- fense and pass efficiency defense. Between his time at Jacksonville State and his stint at West Alabama, Thurmond coached one season at Reinhardt (Georgia). Thurmond graduated from Jacksonville State in 2001 with a degree in exercise science. During his playing career (1996- 2000) with the Gamecocks, Thurmond recorded 63 total tackles as a cornerback. #MISSIONPOSSIBLE • 17 ASSISTANT COACHES SEAN DAWKINS Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Running backs Experience: First Season • Alma Mater: Troy, 2007

Austin Peay State University football head coach Will Healy has turned to a familiar face to lead his running back group, adding Sean Dawkins to his coaching staff for the 2017 season. Dawkins was previously with Murray State. Aside from a one-year residency at Chattanooga in 2014, Dawkins had been with the Racers since the 2010 season. Prior to the 2016 season, Dawkins added Co-Run Game Coordinator to his title. Among his charges at Murray State were Roman Clay (second-team All-OVC in 2015), Mike Harris (10th 1,000-yard rusher in school history in 2011, back-to-back first-team All-OVC honors) and Jamaal Berry (averaged 7.0 yards per carry en route to All-Newcomer honors in 2012). With the Mocs in 2014, Dawkins was part of a coaching staff – which included Governors head coach Will Healy – that oversaw a No. 8 final ranking and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS play-offs. The Mocs tallied 2,951 yards on the ground and featured a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Keon Williams and Jacob Huesman. Prior to his first stint at Murray State, Dawkins served as running backs coach at West Texas A&M in 2009, helping the Buffs to a fifth-straight winning season and Keithon Flemming to All-Lone Star Conference honors. He cut his teeth at Huntingdon college, tutoring Jamal Gardner to a 1,000-yard rushing campaign. As a player, Dawkins was a five-year member of the Troy football team, helping the Trojans capture a pair of Sun Belt titles. He graduated from Troy in 2007 with a degree in social science.

18 • 2017 AUSTIN PEAY STATE UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL • LETSGOPEAY.COM ASSISTANT COACHES TODD PINKSTON Position: Assistant Coach • Responsibilities: Wide Receivers Experience: Second Season • Alma Mater: Southern Miss, 1999

Veteran NFL standout Todd Pinkston has joined Austin Peay State University’s football staff as an assistant coach and will work with the Governors wide receivers. A second-round draft pick out of Southern Miss, Pinkston became a principle target during the Donovan McNabb era in Philadelphia, catching 184 passes for 2,816 yards and 14 touchdowns from 2000-04. During his time in Philadelphia, Pinkston appeared in the playoffs five times, reach- ing the NFC Championship Game four times and Super Bowl XXXIX in Jacksonville, Fla., when the Eagles lost 24-21 to New England; Pinkston had four catches for 82 yards against the Patriots. As a rookie in 2000, Pinkston registered 10 catches for 181 yards before breaking out in his second season as an Eagle (42 catches, 586 yards, four touchdowns), where he started 15 games. In his third season, Pinkston set career highs in receptions (60), yards (798) and touchdowns (seven), highlighted by a two-score day against Dallas and a six-catch, 94-yard day against eventual NFC runner-up San Francisco. Pinkston led the Eagles for the second year in a row in receiving yards (575) in 2003, then slid over as the No. 2 option alongside Terrell Owens in 2004 while still hauling in 676 receiving yards on a career-best 18.8 yards per catch. He had two 100-yard days in 2004—six catches for 100 at Cleveland and five for 106 yards against Washington. After an injury cost him all of the 2005 season, Pinkston went to camp with Philadelphia, Minnesota and Washington over the next two seasons but was unable to make the final roster. Pinkston’s coaching career began as a training camp assistant with Philadelphia in 2009; he also served in Vikings camp during 2010, working with receivers on both occasions. Eddie Hicks joins the Austin Peay coaching staff as the Governors cornerbacks and nickel defensive backs coach after spending the 2015 season at Murray State. The Clarksdale, Mississippi native hopes to have found a home after a series of one-season stints around the country during his early coaching life. Prior to Murray State, Hicks was defensive quality control assistant at Cal (2014), and a graduate assistant at Cincinnati (2013) and Alcorn State (2012). Hicks has been earning his coaching-world stripes since breaking in as a graduate assistant in 2012 at Alcorn State. That season, Hicks helped coach a defense that led the Southwestern Athletic Conference in pass defense and ranked fourth in FCS, allowing a mere 156.0 yards per game. The next season, Hicks joined Cincinnati and was on staff for one of the nation’s best defenses that ranked ninth in total defense (315.6 ypg), 14th in scoring defense (21.0 ppg) and 25th in pass efficiency defense (116.75). Cornerback Deven Drane earned All-American Athletic Conference second-team honors working with Hicks. After a year at Cal, Hicks joined the Murray State coaching staff where he tutored DeQuinten Spraggins to 90 tackles—most by an OVC defensive back—and All-OVC honors in 2015. During his playing days, Hicks was an All-Conference USA performer at Southern Miss (2008-09) and All-Freshman team honoree (2006) out of the defensive backfield, leading the Golden Eagles in interceptions in 2008 and 2009. His 87-yard inter- ception return against East Carolina in 2006 still ranks as the third-longest in Southern Miss history. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2010. Hicks and his wife, JoTrina, have two sons—Eddie IV and Jayvion.
