Evaluación de la calidad del ambiente marino y costero en el litoral de la Región Áncash, 2018. Bol Inst Mar Perú. 34(2): 406-431.- Se evaluó la calidad ambiental en el litoral costero de la Región Áncash en noviembre - diciembre 2018. Los muestreos se efectuaron en las bahías Coishco, El Ferrol, Samanco, Los Chimus, Tortuga, Casma, Huarmey y caleta Culebras y en los ríos Santa, Lacramarca, Samanco, Nepeña, Casma, Culebras y Huarmey. Se encontraron valores termohalinos propios de Aguas Costeras Frías (ACF) y Aguas Subtropicales Superficiales (ASS) con influencias de vertidos antrópicos y variaciones locales de evaporación como resultado de menores profundidades en las áreas evaluadas. El oxígeno disuelto superficial en Samanco fue mayor a 8 mg/L por influencia de microorganismos fitoplanctónicos formadores de marea roja; en caleta Culebras y Huarmey fueron menores a 3,50 mg/L por el proceso de afloramiento costero. Los nutrientes presentaron algunos valores que superaron lo indicado por la normatividad vigente. Se detectó diatomeas de aguas cálidas: Planktoniella sol, Proboscia alata, Rhizosolenia robusta y Protoperidinium oceanicum. Los dinoflagelados potencialmente tóxicos fueron Dinophysis acuminata, D. caudata y D. tripos que se encontraron en todas las bahías y caletas y, Prorocentrum cordatum en El Ferrol, Samanco, Tortuga y Casma. -

In 2009, OHL Concesiones, now Aleatica, was awarded the concession for the road, which includes; i) the operation and maintenance of 356 km of existing road; and ii) the construction of a 283-kilometer second lane. Subsequently, by means of Addendum 2 to the Concession Agreement in 2016, it was also entrusted with the construction of a 37-kilometer long Chimbote bypass. To fulfill the objectives of the concession, Aleatica has created two companies: i) Autopista del Norte (hereinafter "AUNOR"), which is responsible for managing the construction works and serves as the concessionaire of the RV4; and ii) Operadora de Carreteras (hereinafter "OPECAR"), which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the concession.IDB Invest's participation (hereinafter "the Project") will focus on providing resources for the construction of: i) the works required to complete the RV4 (Pativilca-Santa-Trujillo and Puerto Salaverry segments); and ii) the Chimbote bypass. -

The origin and distribution of trace metals in the Rio Santa Watershed, Peru Elizabeth A. Walsh Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada April, 2013 A thesis submitted to McGill University in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Science © Elizabeth Walsh 2013 Abstract The world’s highest density of tropical glaciers is found in the Cordillera Blanca of the Peruvian Andes. During the dry season, glacial meltwater is a vital fresh water resource in the region as it supplies up to 40% of river discharge. Climate change is driving rapid glacial retreat, causing serious concerns about future availability and quality of fresh water supplies. The purpose of this thesis is to survey water quality in the Rio Santa Watershed (which drains the western side of the Cordillera Blanca), with a particular focus on potentially toxic trace metals released by acid mine drainage and acid rock drainage. In July 2011, major ion samples were collected from 23 sites in the Rio Santa and nine of its tributaries. Samples for trace metal analysis were collected from 11 Rio Santa sites and eight tributaries. pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen were measured in situ at all sites. Rio Santa discharge was measured directly at 15 locations and calculated by mass balance analysis for another 12 locations. Water in the Rio Santa Watershed is characterized by high concentrations of SO4, Ca, and HCO3. These species are derived from sulfide oxidation (both naturally occurring and enhanced by mining) and carbonate dissolution. The pH is circumneutral at all sites except for two tributaries, Rio Olleros and Rio Quilcay, which both had a pH below 5. -
