    APPENDIX ]T WORTH SEEING-PEACES IN -H1STQRICAE IMPORTANCE 1) Pratapgad : In 1676 Shivaji Maharaj stayed for some months in the fort of Satara for rest as he was sick. In the same fort Shivaji Maharaj planned his Karnatak campaign. Shivaji Maharaj built Pratapgad in 1656. The height of the Pratapgad from sea level is 3543 feeu It is 9 miles to the west of Mahabaleshwar. On 10th Novemhber, 1659 the encounter took place were between Shivaji and Afzalkhan. In it Afzalkhan was killed by Shivaji Maharaj. Due to this heroic deed Shivaji Maharaja's name fame spread all over India. On Pratapgad itself there is a temple of Tuljabhawani - Shivaji's family deity and there is a grand statue of Shivaji Maharaj of horseback. There is also a tomb of Afzalkhan at the base. In 1818 the fort was under the control of Maratha troups but later on the British look its possession. Satara district is also prone to disasters, so hence, we can categorize Satara as a multi-hazard prone zone or district. It has been affected by almost every kind of hazards, like earthquakes, floods, drought, landslides, lightening, road accidents, crowd incidents and so on. In order to be prepared and resilient from all these disasters, a Disaster Management Plan for the district is a necessity. The District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP) plays a major role in emergency management. It has been part of a multi-level development promoted by the Maharashtra Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, which is a good initiative taken by the Government of Maharashtra. The plan is an inclusive document, and each chapters presented in the plan has its own value.     Materials & Methods The specimens were collected during the extensive collecting programmes carried out under the All India Co-ordinated Project on Taxonomy, Ministry of Environment and Forest. Government of India, at various forest localities (given below) of western Maharashtra during the last three years. The specimens were dried, studied and were kept in labelled folders with details of locality, date, and name of the collector etc. All specimens were deposited in Ajrekar Mycological Herbarium (AMH), at Agharkar Research Institute in Pune. Collecting Localities Collections were mainly made in western Maharashtra where humidity is comparitively high, and the flora in these regions is diverse, compared to the other drier regions of Maharashtra for example Khandesh, Marathwada and Vidharbha, where the humidity is very low and are not suitable for the lichen growth and we often get material too scanty and insufficient to be studied and identified correctly.
